do you have to watch when it's on?
For me it's The Right Stuff. I've seen it a 1000 times and I'm watching it again right now.
Favorite quotes:
(In the Happy Bottom Riding Club)
Pancho Barnes: What are you two rookies gonna have?
Gordon Cooper: Rookies? Now hold on, sis. You are looking at a whole new ballgame here now. In fact, in a couple of years, I bet you're even gonna immortalize us by putting our pictures up there on your wall.
[unwittingly referring to the dead pilot memorial over the bar]
Gordon Cooper: What? I say somethin' wrong here?
Pancho Barnes: I tell you, we got two categories of pilots around here. We got your prime pilots that get all the hot planes, and we got your pud-knockers who dream about getting the hot planes. Now what are you two pud-knockers gonna have? Huh?
Gordon Cooper: Scotch.

(In arguement over astronauts and ethics)
Gus Grissom: The issue here is not p***y, it's monkey!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(On the launch pad)
[unaware there is an open mic]
Alan Shepard: Dear Lord, please don't let me f**k up.
Gordon Cooper: I didn't quite copy that. Say again, please.
Alan Shepard: I said everything's A-OK!

My favorite thing about that movie is the Chuck Yeager cameo.
'You boys drinkin' whiskey'? he asks the two guys that come to recruit pilots. Then he just stands there.

Patton. I have the DVD, but I'll still stop and watch it on tv.

Never seen Right Stuff all the way through but I enjoyed the good acting by Ed Harris and Fred Ward.

In a bank.
In a bank? You're getting pretty ambitious aren't ya? Think you can blow a bank and get away with it.
It's behind enemy lines.
Behind enemy lines.....it could be the perfect crime!

Nope. She starts the convo calling them rookies and ends up with pudknockers.
Yeager's cameo is:
Fred: "You boys want a drink of whiskey?"
Liaison Man: "No thanks, just some coffee Fred."
NASA Recruiter:"Uh, I'll take a Coke, please...in a clean glass."
Fred: "A COKE?"
NASA Recruiter:"In a clean glass."

Another neat cameo is by Anthony Munoz, former Offensive tackle for the Cincinatti Bengals. He plays Gonzolez, the huge orderly in the New Mexico clinic.
A bit of sad trivia about Jane Dornaker who played Nurse Murch:
On October 22, 1986 Jane was killed while doing a traffic report on WNBC-AM in New York City. Much to the horror and dismay of radio host Joey Reynolds and the millions of WNBC-AM listeners who heard the terrified voice of Jane Dornacker screaming "HIT THE WATER! HIT THE WATER! HIT THE WATER!" as the helicopter from which she and pilot Bill Pate were reporting, fell from the sky and crashed into the Hudson River live on the air.
