Before I start let me say, this is not a whine, in fact I find the whole incident rather amusing and I'm putting it down as 'one of those things that just happen' =)
While flying at the southern end of the Main Arena, between A40 and P21 last nigh (about 04:30 GMT) I spotted an enemy contact on radar roughly 12 miles off my 10 o'clock. While I watched, the radar showed it closing rapidly and it appeared as a dot and passed rapidly in front of me, still staying a dot, to finish up about 5 miles off my 3 o'clock.
The odd thing is that it took about 30 seconds to do this which I estimate to be in excess of 2000mph =) It certainly looked to be motoring!
I think I was the only person to see this as both the radio buffer and Roger Wilco (in listen only mode at the time) had reports of a high F4U in that area, but nohting unusual with no other contacts. The dot on radar was successfully intercepted and shot down so I don't think it was anyone doing anything they shouldn't (if you follow me).
The connection meter showed a nice flat line at the time (first thing I checked).
Anyway, like I said, it was amusing. First time I've seen this, although I've read other reports, and as long as it stays this infrequent I feel it almost adds character to things, real 'foo fighters' =)

Seen this in AW/WB and AH. My connect was solid too, I think its the fellow that just disco'd who's connect was bad.

I have not seen something flying fast, but I have seen one or two dots on the ground that turn out to be nothing at all when I dive down for a look. I can still even see the dot on the ground, when passing low over it. I have not kept enough info to bug it though.

OH NO, another one!!! Gentlemen please take Dr. 1776 advice and drink 8-16 oz of beer before flying!!! This should help the symptoms and help your eyes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Failing that, down at least 2 oz of whiskey!!
-
I saw it too, but mine was close to the ground. Thought it was a Flack gun.
-
This is too much!!! This is too much!! Dr. 1776 just can't handle it!!!
<grabs case of beer and quart of whiskey. exits to private office. Shortly the good Dr. will feel better (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)>

I have had the dot thing happen about 3 times now. I've had it happen as high as 10,000ft. When you get to it, it is just a black pixel hanging in space. I orbited one for a while to see if it would go away, but it didn't. Dropped 5,000ft on it too.
Eagler,
I would like to say that my flying is precise enough to hold a speck of dirt on the screen in one place, but I'm not even close to that precise.

I had this happen to me on a couple of occasions. One time was memorable. I saw this dot off to my 4-o'clock. It got bigger and bigger, but no icon. I thought to myself that this must be a bomber, because of the size of the dot. Then the dot turned into something more recognizable ... a silver bullet. Soon after that I hit Alt-I in time to see the red "P-51" followed shortly by a tracer stream that abruptly ended my flight!
It's easy to accidentally turn off your enemy icons, I found out the hard way.

I find the interesting thing with this one is that it clearly showed up on radar which is how I was able to make a (very rough) estimate of the speed it was travelling at.
If it hadn't have been for that I possibly wouldn't have even noticed. Dots at 1600x1200 are too small to be noticable unless you're paying attention =( Which is why I was checking the radar during my climb out of A40...

I few over to what looked like a furball one time. It was right on the deck, several black dots. I kept heading that way and then they just disappeared. I fallow several dots that looked like they were headed away from me. They just disappeared into the terrain. Anyone remember the ghost Typhoon. It just kept strafing that GV base over and over all day. Someone (I think Whels) put some rounds into it. It kept strafing and smoking for hours. LOL.

I had a close encounter too!!
some time ago in MA betamap i was chasing a dot, when it turn back on me and a glowing beam hit my plane, at this time all become confused...
I remember a strong light on me and some strange shape, almost human, working on my body...
I awake in tower, like nothing happens...
But they must have done something terrible on me, because since then my gunnery suck and my flying too...
I swear, it's true!!

Eagler, I actually have that. No kidding.
I have been noticing it from time to time since I was about 9. I migth have had it before that, just never noticed.
"They may also appear as threadlike strands or cobwebs within the eye. Since they are within the eye, they move as the eye moves and seem to dart away when you try to look at them directly.
It is nothing that annoys me and I only really notices them when looking at a white background with plenty of light. (waking up looking up in my ceiling and the sun shining in.)
I always found them quite amusing lookin at really.

I've had these for years! They make tracking bandits a REAL challenge. I can't tell you how many times my heart has stopped only to find I was looking at another one of those garl-darned floaters!
