Title: b17 gun convergence
Post by: AKcurly on July 05, 2004, 12:31:38 AM
You cannot set the b17 gun convergence from the GUI.  I had to exit & manually edit the config file.

Go to the settings folder (on my system, it's c:\program files\htc\aces high II\settings) and open the file b17g.cfg using notepad.

Enter the convergence settings in feet.  For example, with the B17, I wanted 650 yards, so I entered
1950.0000
1950.0000
1950.0000
1950.0000

Since there 7 gun positions on the b17, I'm not sure I understand why there are only 4 entries.

With the P51d, I can set the convergence in the game at say 300 yards and I find in the file p51d.cfg

900.00
900.00
900.00
750.00

3 pairs of guns, 3 settings.

Anyone figure out why the b17 only has 4 settings?

Not that I know of.   I'm no expert, but I believe convergence refers to the point where the bullet streams come together, so to speak.

I thought the convergence for buffs referred to the point at which all guns aimed when fired simultaneously. Even with the dual gun positions in the ball, upper, tail, and chin turrets, I figured the guns were close enough together to effectively fire at the same point. Could it be that the convergence is mainly for the elevation? Granted, on a shot to either the 9 or 3 oclock positions you spray a wide area, but a burst toward the 12 or 6 oclock positions has most of the guns arrayed in what is effectively a straight line.

Maybe I'll up one in a bit and do some testing. Anyways, I'm just glad to be able to set the convergence. Thanks again for the tip, Curly, I'd have never thought to manually edit the .cfg file.

Single guns don't converge.......obviously.

Of course, I wonder if "convergence" also sets elevation (you have to aim higher at 1000 yards than 200 yards).   If "convergence" truly only adjusts side to side, then you'd only need convergence for multiple weapons.

It does.
