Title: Is the PT boat equiped with Radar?
Post by: Hans on November 22, 2000, 06:24:00 PM
The screenshots show a radar mast.  Does it work, or is it for looks?

Hans.

Probably looks - AH doesn't have mobile radar.  Though it would be cool to be able to have separate radar coverage for the CV and PT boats if the country radar was down.

Of course, you should only see it if you were in those particular vessels   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Cheers

As I understand, it's radar is just surface to surface radar to detect ships, not surface to air radar.
So don't be so happy about having something to replace your dear air radar  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I know that a lot of ships in the navy were equipped with surface and air radar, including submarines.  Why wouldn't a torpedo boat have one also?

LOL.. 80' Elco boats were equipped with an SK/2 radar. Quite competent on even small surface contacts like barges and sub conning towers out to about 18 miles; and could easily detect aircraft to better than 25 miles or further depending on contacts altitude.. Range would have been better with a taller mast.
