Title: A Little History of SSI and the Dumb-o-crats
Post by: Coolridr on July 05, 2004, 07:59:31 AM
Social Security History

An infuriating eye opener.....

When Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program he promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income tax each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a  Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent "Trust" fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants Moved into this county, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and
violation of the Original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is, un-informed citizens believe it!

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during this 2004 election year!

this is really simple guys... All government programs grow and grow with the possible exception of the military which grows and shrinks and grows again.

democrats create social programs that every proceeding administration and the people of the U.S. need to find a way of funding.

Voting for democrats is taking away your future... It is like moving back in with your mom.    Many of the liberals here are very young and that appeals to them... many are canadians and are jealous of Americans and so wish to drag us down to thier level of irrelevance.   Many are effete euros who simply can't rconcile themselves with their downfall and pretty much hate everyone anyway.

About 10 successive republican or libertarian administrations would put things back on track.

Do you believe all the crap that finds its way to your in-box?

Reagan put a tax on Social Security.

Nixon extended SSI to immigrants.

I'm sure other parts of that little screed are just as unaccurate and misleading, but I'm not going to waste my time on stupid conservo-spam.

Be sure to take a look at the National Debt while you're at it.

Regean Increased the SS Tax, he didn't institute it, and do not confuse Social Security with the SSI.  SSI is a good thing, not a bad thing.

He increased it 4x, and then took the money to fill in the holes in his budget. Then said he didn't raise taxes. Gotta love fuzzy math.

This argument would be much more compelling if presented in Flash Game format. Perhaps featuring a giant Japanese robot, like Mazinger Z

I think he instituted it in 1983:

In the early 1980s the Social Security program faced a serious short-term financing crisis. President Reagan appointed a blue-ribbon panel, known as the Greenspan Commission, to study the financing issues and make recommendations for legislative changes. The final bill, signed into law in 1983, made numerous changes in the Social Security and Medicare programs, including the taxation of Social Security benefits, the first coverage of Federal employees under Social Security and an increase in the retirement age in the next century. so Regan tried to patch up the stupid democrat socialist proigram?  We all knew that... it was very unpopular to tax the benifiets at the time.  He raised the age for qualifying...

I believe that the only way to save it is to raise the age to 90 but... not on "undocumented immigrants"  or people who have never paid in... they should get it based on need.

However you slice it, Social Security is a financial disaster, brought about by political mismanagement and greed.  It will never survive without massive new taxes to support it.  The scope of these tax increases, as well as those needed to support other social programs, will steadily suck the life out of the economy.

It might be better to kill it outright rather than to allow it to die a slow death.

In the long run, the only hope for Social Security may be privatization.

Its Tuesday, I'm a bleeding heart liberal today. See, what I see in that picture is Amreeka today. There is a white child being lifted above because of the previous advantages his forfathers had over minorities in this country while the downtrodden minority child can only watch from below. The republican leader recognizes the white child and ignores the minority youth because he sees him as less valuable. Not to even mention the white hand holding the flags above the minority child's head as if saying "Neener neener the American Dream is out of your reach." The picture is sick, sick I say!

Section. 7.
Clause 1: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

Section. 8.
Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As defined by the US Constitution, the Congress writes the tax laws so Congress is responsible for them in whatever form the laws exist, as a majority of the congress voted for the laws.

The executive can sign the law but cannot effectively veto if the support in congress is strong enough (2/3).
