Can we get padlock view to work like it did in AHI?
In AHI, padlock view would move your head in panning mode and also move your head into the saved view positions as the tracked icon moved. This always kept the target in the center of the view, even when using maximum zoom.
In AHII, padlock view seems to use 'snap view' to track the target. Because of this, the pilot's view angle doesn't change until the target is nearing the edge of the current view angle, but only at normal zoom. When zoomed in, the target moves out of the view angle and then padlock is lost.

Personally I think being able to lock a view onto a target is a bad idea. I think it should be up to the pilot to be responsible for keeping an eye on his target. Just my thought.

you use padlock?
LOL
-
Padlock? People are using padlock? We can't have exterior fighter views and people are using padlock?
-
Seconded; Midnight.

WTF? I thought the AH padlock feature only put a box around the icon of an NME, so you can tell which of the 10 spitfires around you is missing the ron you just shot off. Is there a Falcon3-type padlock feature in AH?
-
Midnight: It still is just like AH 1, you just need to select which padalock to use in the setup.

padlock? there is padlock?!
-
How do you use the pad lock? I can select a bogey, but my head sure doesn't follow it.
-
So a "padlock" allows you to lock on a bogie? Why would you want to do that? How would you track the other bogies?
-
You wouldn't, and you'd get shot down, but at least you'd be watching the padlocked guy as you hit the ground.

I use padlock on occasion when flying with friendly aircraft. I use friendly padlock to look at the planes zoomed in for detail view. It's fun to use on friendly bomber formations when doing a fly by.
I don't use padlock in combat because it is too difficult to track the orientation of the view with the direction the nose is pointing. This is especially true with the P-51D, due to the absence of any canopy rails to use as a visual reference.

ahh i see :D
was gonna say, dont think i know anyone that actually uses it in combat.

I know that we have a squadmate that has some physical handicaps. The Padlock feature makes AH Very Playable for him.
So go ahead and make jokes about Padlock, but HTC has made features that make this game friendly to many people, even those with some physical challenges.
Once again Dale and company for all the features in this game.

Padlock is the F11 key. I believe you set it with Ctrl-Tab enabling Friendly Lock and the use 'tab' to cycle thru targets in a similar fashion as the 'check6' key highlight. 'Shift-tab' would lock on the centermost target.
Don't quote me here and I might be incorrect on some things. I have dabbled with it in the TA.
EDIT correction- You only need to enable Friendly Lock to padlock friendlies. Guess I'll put on my small marOON hat for saying friendly lock was needed to lock on enemies.

AH2 pan padlock does not work like AH1.
Sit in runway and watch drones go around in both versions and the differences will be apparent. Snap Padlock works the same in both, but not Pan padlock.

never tried padlock how is it??
:D
don't feel a need either
-
LoL I feel left out.. I have no idea what 'padlock' does..
-
Same thing as the mouse view TheDude, but your view/head turns following a target that you have selected.
Sounds cool for what Midnight does with it. I never thought of using it to track friendlies and getting some nice screen shots. Also as Grimm pointed out it has some very "real" use for some who enjoy flight sims. :)

I thought about it but it'll make my neck sore especially in a huge furball and mainly because I'll use it for FPS's as well. I taught myself to fly with padlock with tips that actual modern day fighter pilots told me how to fly when you're not looking straight ahead. I talk to them at the Dayton Air Show everytime I go there.
My first padlock experince was in Falcon 3.0. It was perfect IMHO, not the linda blair kind. My first on-line experince with padlock was in the Original Fighter Ace. It was a linda blair kind though. Personally I don't care if a padlock is "realistic" or not. As long it helps me, I'm fine with it.
