Title: Oil splatter
Post by: DREDIOCK on July 07, 2004, 11:43:35 PM
The oil splatter on the windscreen is a nice touch but can we make it a little bit more random please?

I mean does it have to go all over the windscreen EVERY time  your oil gets hit?:)

Oh Landing is no problem. Its everything else. Like finishing a fight.
I think the oil splatter is a REALLY cool touch.
Just wish it didnt happen EVERY time my oil gets hit lol

Maybe with all the discomfort, limited view, and the fact that the life of the engine is ticking away - you should start disengage and run away, instead of trying to finish a fight.

In a game already where people couldn't care less whether they die or not, there's gotta be something that should pursuade to think otherwise than to just game the game - after all, we've seen plenty of those in AH1. People flying around with fuel lines punctured, oils leaking, pilot wounded, while on fire, etc etc.

Oh I agree but
Sometimes desengaging is easier said then done.
You still gotta manuver yourself into a position where you can disengage without being shot again or at least be able to minimize the risk of being shot at.

Basically if you are hit and damaged, you are out of the fight. It's bad getting your flight surfaces damaged, but internal damage to the engine is probably the worst thing that can happen short of getting shot down immediately.

IMO there's no way to go around the consequences of being hit and damaged in the first place, nor should there be. The way how it is portrayed in AH is actually very lenient, compared to the penalizing "smear" as portrayed in other games.

109's (at least some of them) had windscreen washing system, this is from K-4 manual:

There should be airflow effect on the oil once it's on your canopy. A 500mph dive should disperse it some.

I reckon most pilots would be forced to pull back the  hood and lean out............. except for those AC where this could not be done of course........

That's why the oil lines are "Zebra", like Tilt mentioned. The dispersal is already there, instead of the gigantic black smudge we see in IL2/FB.

Just accept it friends, if oil lines are hit, your visibility is limited, period. No other way to get rid of the gunky smears and just fly normal and happy, nor should anyone expect to do so.

If oil lines are hit, call for help, and run home.

This is my thoughts exactly/ Dont know if HTC could model this effect or not?
IF......The Zebra Stripes are HTC attempt to create dispersal then i must say it seem un- natural. Have you ever seen a NASCAR race from the drivers cockpit when the car mere feet in front of him blows his engine? The oil effect is more like a Film..Like looking thru the bottom of a coke bottle.
All in All..its a cool effect. I personally would like to see some modifications to it.

I think I would prefer a gradually increasing density of oil film........... although I can appreciate that given the myriad forms of oil leak inducing engine failure possible.......there will be some that seem to dump oil almost immediately on the windscreen.

Can the Zebra Stripes be more random? Or are all zebras of the same stripes? :D

If people are willing to buy better computers to replicate fluid dynamics of liquid stream hitting a glass.. sure, why not?!
