Title: When it Rains it Pours...
Post by: AWMac on July 08, 2004, 10:31:32 PM
If you all recall the incident last week when my 5 Year old Son had the TV fall on him and caused 13 stitches on his forehead...
Well that evening when we got back from the ER and tried to settle down...the TV was still on the floor.  Well I got a strong North Carolina wooden end table and decided it would surfice as a TV stand. I kinda forgot that when we first got the TV it took 4 people to get it up on the stand. That was 3 years ago before I was a MAW... well I tried by myself to lift it up, no way. got the wife and my 13 year old Daughter to make an attempt to get in on the stand.  Well we got it up there, felt it pull in my back seeing as how I put most of the muscle into it. Hurt just a tad.
Next morning I woke up screaming in pain..could barely move without pain bringing me to my knees. called in and cancelled work, maybe it's just a 24 hr pain.  No way! was out Friday also, made a Dr. appt and crawled in to her office a shot in the arse and 2 scripts of pain pills then off to the main clinic downtown for xrays.  In the meantime I was doing the fistfull of painpills with no relief. Cant sleep on back or sides, been sleeping in LZ Boy chair. Funny thing with the water pills for Diabetes and 3am gotta pee..
I know what zombies feel like, screaming and moaning...

Well this went on all weekend..more trips to the Dr and more pain shots in the arse.. finally I couldn't take it anymore. went to the main clinic and they scheduled an MRI tomorrow.. seems I blew a few disc out. Dr at main clinic didn't hesitate to prescribe Morphine, 30 days worth and another shot in the arse. Seems like it gonna be surgery time soon.
But what really kicks my arse is I can't get my upgrade for AH2 done. TigerDirect sez my credit sucks.. guess while I'm on short term disability I need to save a buck here and there to get a Motherboard and Processor... got a Vid card already.
This all just SUX!!!!

Any donations are welcomed.  Can trade a Sony Vaio Case for a CPU or MoBo, got sound cards, got a new vidcam never used CD, box, Instructions included. Also hace a LinkSYS 5-port workgroup hub to trade. Also a IBM 166 MHz 32MB 2.6Gig Personal Computer 300PL without OS in great working shape for trade *maybe something for the kids to learn on?*

I miss flying Aces High... like I lost my Family.  :(

Thanks De Maw.... but I'm afraid the Dr's are true to the bone.

Do me a favor if you can, Let the MAWs know. I've been trying to get ahold of them off and on.

Tell them to email me, fwrede@cox.net.

It would be greatly appreciated.

Mac, before you go to a back-cracker, do see a NeuroSurgeon. I know it seems outlandish but these guys go through 7 years of residency before they get a license and about 70% of the work they do involves the spine. I've never been to one myself, but my dad is one, and I've been around them all my life. They're a smart bunch, and perhaps the most knowledgable guys there are when it comes to spinal issues.

Ask around, find the most conservative one you can(one who only operates when it's a do or die situation), and then get a second opinion.

Don't let solve your problem the quick and dirty way. Doing that will generally cost you more in the long run, both in pain and in dollars. If you get a good surgeon, and your problem isn't severe, he'll be the best person to direct you to a therapist.

Mac sorry to hear bout your problems....You are right when it rains it does poor especially w/ a family.

Sorry I dont have anything to send to you that would help you out.  I'm in the procsess of upgrading myself and somone in my squad was gracious enough to send me an old AMD CPU.  If I had it I would send something to you, just cause of the kindness I've seen from some of the other members of this game/board.  I'm sure there is somone that can hook you up!

PS I too have a bad back.....we had a broken crane once and got the bright idea of pulling an ejection seat out of a T38 (a common practice if you know what you are doing) one man short and for the first time, by hand.

No bad disks here just severe spasms and alot of muscle relaxers/couchtime.

Best of luck to you....god bless!

Have you ever considered getting a nerve-block for the spasms?

I've never even heard of it.  I dont get problems too often but they do happen usually during unusual muscle movement.

One time I was trying to break a block of half frozen hamburger on the counter and my upper back started spasming soo bad it put me on the linolium.  It hurt to breath and I could actually feel the muscle balling up against the floor.

I'm not 100% sure that the procedure applies to your problem, but in certain situations, they can actually block out the nerve that's misfiring altogether. It's a scary proposition, I know, but the procedure is quick and pretty painless. Ask your doctor. Who knows, it might help....

They can also do that with a small TENS unit. Electrically block the nerves that cause the spasms.

Sorry to hear of your back.
But look at the brite side.
If a TV that heavy fell on your kid and all he got was some stitches, Your lucky it coulda been ALOt worse.

In the future remember. Lift with your legs and not your back. And hold the object close to your body when you do lift

By lifting the wrong way you can be putting as much at ten times the amount of stress on your back as the weight you are lifting
If you hold out a 20 LB weight away from your body You are putting 200 LBS of stress on your back

you need a smaller TV

as for your back, when i was a auto tech i would put my back out allot ( watch mr macho pick up a trany all by himself), i always went to a chiropractor, they fixed me up quick, no drugs, no knives, but of course thats just my opinion.

DREDIOCK You are absolutly right.  I'd be in the Psyco ward right now it it had crushed his head...

And yep, the one lesson I forgot was "Lift with your legs, not your back"  This is one lesson the will still in my mind forever now.

BTW Bro did I mention that I have a ASUS K7M Motherboard and a AMD Athlon Processor for trade/bartor?...I can even thro in a 20 Gig HD with Linux Redhat....Trying to upgrade here.

I'll drop you an email in about a month when I get my AMD xp 3200.  I have an XP 1900 that was given to me by a squad member.  It only seems right that I give it to another flyer instead of selling it on Ebay.

Not sure if that's fast enough for ya.  A MOBO to run that will only cost you $30 or so....couple that with a gig of RAM and a 9800XT and you should definatly be in business.  Good luck

before you go under the knife check out the surgion and get a second opionion.

My mom blew out a disk falling.

It is now 10 plus years later and she had surgery 12 2 years ago, the first surgeon ****ed up. Really badly. His fussion was wrong and caused other disks to go bad.

This is a big deal get a second opionon and find out about the doc before you go under the knife. A bad surgeon will make it worse.

You blew your back out, been in screaming agony for days, require surgery but  the worst part is that you can't get your upgrade done.

if that isn't a helluva came review...I dunno what is.
