You don't have to fill up those wittle boxes so it can be read by the machine thing. It's an essay test of fifty words or less.
1. Would a flight sortie regardless of length, that you landed be considered a waste of time in your opinion if you didn't have a fight ??
-
That depends on mission goal.
-
Depends on individual definitions of 'fight'. If I grab a fighter and look for a fight, and dont find that fight, then yes, disappointment may ensue. Nothing to cry about. I'll look again. If I take some eggs, I intend to drop them. The ground target or vulch target is my fight. If I find that, then mission accomplished.
-
Nope.
How's that for less than 50 words?

Wouldn't that be considered a ferry flight? Doesn't sound like much fun in a simulator/game. It can actually get a bit boring in real life. The only exception I would make is a high altitude bombing run of a strategic target.
It isn't fun unless I get shot down real fast. :) Great at takeoffs, not sure about landings.

The answer to that really depends on what my goal was for a particular sortie, but in most cases, yes, it would have been a waste of time.
-
You mean like a sortie to resupply HQ and get dar back on for yourself and a couple of hundred team mates?
Or a scout flight in a scenario frame during which you discovered an enema fleet and directed a strike force to it?
Circumstances make a difference.

Your goal for every sortie includes killshootering your pony on octavius and/or a fantastic auger

Oh yeah right, well yeah!
err wait no...?

Landing is good but landing kills is better. If you have managed to recon valuable info thats good to.
-
Absofrigginlutley.
-
landing?
in the absence of enemy fighters, there's always ch200.
:D

Yup

No and yes. Yes because any time spent playing computergames wastes time that could be used for something usefull.

Hey now, I sometimes like to die in an HO collision with an enemy too!
-
No! not at all !!
The fact that I landed , is because I DIDN"T have a fight!!!
:D
-
yep, I'll fly into the horde or auger rather than turn around.
AH is a fite sim not a flight sim.
-
It is what you want it to be wouldnt you say sax?
-
"a waste of time in your opinion if you didn't have a fight ??"
Yes. It would be an absolute waste of time.
-
If I was in my P38 and I didn't have a fight, yes, it would be a failure. I'd be less disappointed if I was winging with someone and they got all the scalps and we both landed, that is a success imho.
In anything else, C47, Ostie, Il2, it doesn't matter. Those take up less than 5% of my online time anyway...

lol here I was tryin to decide whether to just write 'ya' or something witty and then I read this.. LMAO!
Funniest reply in the thread.. I almost lost my poptart over that I cracked so hard.. hehe
-
Depends on how many times Urchin private messages you about killing him in the previous sortie. I could fly all day with no kills while enjoying his streaming insults and whiny rants in big, bold, white letters. :)
-
Hmmm a Combat Flight Sim and no fights = Microsoft Flight Sim. I'll pass total waste of time. Gimmie my 15 bucks back lol.:D
I get bored to death taking up real planes and flying around. Now I'm looking for something aerobatic to keep the blood pumping lolh. So abso*****glutley waste of time sitting in front of computer taking a Sunday Drive.
Did I say total waste of time yet. Total waste of time. :D
-
...only if you didn't have even a loosely planned objective in the first place.
If i take off i am:
a) going to up from a field in close proximity to enemy contacts and leave ordinance behind fully intending to intercept a target or
b) going to an enemy base to loiter and drop ordinance in the hopes of making a nuisance of myself.
If you take off without thinking about what your objectives are:
i.e. interception, interdiction, strike, CAP, etc. etc. then I think you've seriously missed out on some of the fun of being a make believe combat pilot.
Flying a combat air patrol without making any contacts; Dissapointing? Yes. A waste of time? No.
-
If you take off without thinking about what your objectives are:
One objective only and always -KILLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

in under 50 words: -
Yes.
-
when this happens i usually dont have the patienance to land unless im right next to a friendly base, so ill commit suicide by either auguring or useing my squadmates as target practice
-
Could someone explain to just what this landing thing is?
Since i never get a chance to do so i forgot what it means
-
In the MA? Yes.
In an Event? No.
I've flown some of my favorite missions in special events, where the whole point was to track incoming aircraft or ships without engaging. I once flew a FW190 just outside a formation of B-17s for over a hundred miles, vectoring in interceptors. The Escorts finally got wise and chased me off, but man that was fun while it lasted.
It's nice that the game can accomadate many different interests and styles. I look forward to ToD to open up even more mission types and features.

I agree with that. I can't wait for the change in the MA when TOD actually happens.:D
-
Uh. You can land?!
-
It's up to the flight leader to set the right mood for this sort of thing. If the mission is a fighter sweep... i.e. a REAL Combat Air Patrol (CAP), then preventing/interdicting enemy is the goal. Flying to the nearest red dot is not always the goal - sometimes, you keep your alt and wait for the big prize. Unescorted buffs at 25K, sometimes you have a low CAP and look for the solitary goon struggling to remain undetected.
The point is - landing without kills after a semi-long flight isn't a huge disappointment. Sometimes the mission is to provide security for the flanks of the real operation. Good squads rotate their missions around a little so as not to make it boring doing the same thing over and over.

I do wonder how the MA may change. I mean, I imagine that the pork-n-auger crowd and 1337 G3nUrUlz! will remain. I'm not really sure who will be drawn away from the existing MA player base.

Sheesh Hyrax you have alot of time on your hands huh :D
Great Sik burst my bubble.:D I was hoping just the opposite.

No, depending on what Im doing, If I had an enjoyable time, then I did not waste my time.
A waste of time was reading this stupid thread ;)

Cmon Grimm,

Mimicking the carefully chosen and oft used words of my nearly teenage daughter:
Uh, Duh!
(sorry about the emoticon, but my understanding is that the eye roll is manditory with this expression).
-
Yes it woud be a waste of time, unless its a recon mission (IE looking for a CV)
-
Not necessarily. When friends are on and we are BS'ing, I could care less about the game.

you've never heard of jaxxo?
he shot me down almost 100 times in AH1, i know who he is.
and i am a newbie
as far as a sortie being a waste of time or not:
anytime spent flying in AH is an oppertunity for fun. if you dont make it fun in some way, then you are wasting your own time, not having it wasted.

Then you must care a lot about the game, since you have few friends and they are hardly online.

Wooohoooo. Dats a funny answer bumba !!!
Now to answer the question of the thread. NO
-
I will run out of gas and/or auger before I will rtb with less than 2 kills.

Qualified answer:
1. In Squad Ops or Snapshot: a mission that results in no enemy seen/threat is a failure in my book. These events should be designed to foster action and not just 2 sides flying about for 2 hours and not seeing each other. (this is not an endorsment of furballing in these events. It is a notion that the targets assigned for offense and defense have both components and not just one or the other).
2. MA/CT: a landed sortie with no personal fight action is ok if:
a) recon was done
b) resupply of vital resource (dar)
c) you get to watch a truly amazing fight by others.
3. DA: nope -- sortie without a fight is pointless there.
-
Yes. This is Aces High, not Supply High, Recon High, or Dally High.
-
Usually want a fight, but in addition to situations outlined I gotta say I've loved some LR escort. Doing historical style high cover, swooping in to scare off the fighter lining up on my buff -- and not taking the bait to drop down low if the bogie dives out. Love those times all my buffs get home -- and especially like when they OK release so can tangle with the interceptors for a bit.
And, being a journeyman (between newbie and vet), I'll take any landing I can get -- like 'em better with kills, but like landing better than a chute or ball of flame.
-
Jaxxo - a newbie? someone's in denial.
If during the sortie you ended up dueling with Shane and it was a draw and you exchanged a big salute - then no it wouldn't be a waste of time. Okay monkies might be flying out from someones backside before that happens but if it did....

Good answer, especially as it's the "fite guys" who whine the loudest if the radar has gone blank. :aok

"Wow, lookie here.. another newbie with a hard-on for me.

I am home on summer break...brought my puter with me and set it up at my bro inlaws. I sat and watched you,Urchin, private message him for about 5 minutes on how much of a piece of watermelon he was for shooting you down. You did the same to me after I killed ya 3 times in a row. I tried to joke around with you about it and you were still an insult spewing moron. No potshots here...if your gonna throw the first punch, better protect your chin. By the way I caught holy hell on ch.200 last night for my previous post on this thread. Someone out there actually is under the impression you are a likeable guy.
-
Oh, thats right, you are the Flak*****.
Congratulations.. lol.
So.. do you fly planes too?
