Anyone have any experience with this Glock model? Chambered in .45GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol). I'm looking at picking one up and wondered if anyone could give me their thoughts on it.

The .45 GAP in my opinion is a waste of time. The .45 ACP round has been around forever and does not need to be fixed.
I would put money on the gun and the round not being around in 5 to 10 years.
You want a good auto in .45? Go with a Sig 220 or any of the good 1911 cloners. (Kimber, Springfield etc)

ACP looks more substantial

I have a Glock model 21, 45 ACP. I like it though the grip is a little too large for my right hand. Fits my slightly larger left hand perfectly. Good to be ambidextrous. :D
-
My biggest issue with the gun was its accuracy, IMO it does not match up to other models.
-
I went and did a search on the WEB and found alot of favorable reviews of the weapon. Most say they are getting as good if not better accuracy, hit power, and ease of use as the 1911.
Here are some of the articles I read:

I think that is the whole purpose behind the .45GAP. To have .45ACP ballistics and performance in a smaller/lighter frame weapon.

Sounded more like Glock trying to slim down a bad grip design....
Has another gun maker made a gun chambered for the GAP? If not the GAP will proll die out sooner then later.
-
Good old guberment 1911.

Derringer (double barrel): http://www.bondarms.com
Glock 37 --- 4.5” barrel (note: web site not updated yet): http://www.glock.com
S&W 625 (not officially approved by S&W yet): http://www.smith-wesson.com
Springfield Armory XD .45 GAP --- 4” & 5” barrels: http://www.springfield-armory.com/index.shtml
CZ RAMI Compact .45 GAP --- 3" barrel (announced by Guns & Ammo only at this point): http://www.cz-usa.com

Hmmm interesting.
It may live. I still doubt it though, It is not long the .45 ACP round is overly long.
all the other .45 "improments" like the super have died off or never took off.

I'm still debating the same question. I will probably purchase a Kimber TLE.
-
I am very happy with my Kimber. It feels and looks substantial and quality. It is very accurate and more reliable than I had hoped for. I actualy trust this gun and I don't trust semi autos much.

the problem I've always had with the glock is they just don't feel right in your hand.
I know they are supposed to be more ergonomic and all that, but they just feel so much different than most any other gun.
maybe they are a better design, I don't know, but I'd been shooting a long time before they where an option, and I just can't get comfortable with them in my hand.
I've put a couple hundred rounds through a few different models. I've never seen any jamming or other complaints I've heard of and accuracy was OK with careful aiming.
but because of the weird feeling of the gun I also tried some 'point & shoot' firing and was not at all happy with where the rounds ended up. this leads me to doubt that I'd be happy with it in a high-stress situation where I really needed it to perform.
If I where going to by another pistol soon, and wanted a .45, I'd go with the 1911 or a clone (kimber is damn nice), they've had almost a hundred years to work any kinks out of the design.
-
If you want a .45. You have 3 options.
SA - Kimber, Wilson Combat, Les Baer (still trying to talk the wife into a Concept V).
LDA - Para-Ordnance (initially they had issues with this weapon, I don't know anyone with it. So I will not say anything good or bad about it)
DA - The ONLY one worth mentioning in this category is what I own, Heckler & Koch USP .45. I bought it from my Uncle for $500 w/ 3 HK factory mags(He bought it in 1996) in Indiana (Last year at the Con, I snuck away Saturday for a day of shooting at an outdoor range, about an hour South of Indianapolis). He put about 1500 rounds through it without a hitch. I bought it from him in 99 and have put well in excess of 3000 rounds through it, I have yet to have ANY problems whatsoever.
Reasons NOT to go to GAP. Poor availability of ammo, and when you do find it, it will be expensive. I pay $11.95 for a box of 50 Win. 45 auto 230 FMJ for shooting paper, I shoot every other Saturday.
I keep both 10 rounders with Cor-Bon 230 +P+ ammo in em. (My mouth is watering as the 1994 Crime Bill Amendment regarding Magazine capacity is being ignored by both Reps and Dems for fear of the "Gun vote". I'll be purchasing a few 12 round mags for this handgun.

I would put my Sig 220 as up as being as good or damn close to your HK.

I've always been kind of curious about something. Is it normal to be "different handed" when it comes to rifles vs pistols?
I don't have much experience with either, but the only time I fired a rifle I held the stock to my right shoulder and fired. When I pick up a pistol, it "feels" more natural to use my left hand, if that makes any sense at all.

It is not uncommon.

I have always fired a rifle or pistol right handed. I also write and play golf right handed but throw a football, softball, bowl left handed. I haven't had the Glock long and haven't fired it left handed yet. This thread caused me to realize I should try that as it fits my left hand better and I had no problem doing some trial aiming.

No desire to own a plastic gun.
Mine are metal and wood and manly! grunt grunt snort!
:D
-
Wood drys out, metal corrodes, plastic is forever. ;)
I do like the feel of my mostly metal Beretta better.

Do you practice being a know it all bellybutton or is it a natural thing?
-
I'm right handed and left eye dominant. To make it worse I couldn't independantly close my left eye due to an old injury untill I trained myself to do it by using my whole face...

No, just being a salamander like you were. I never put down a single Gun brand. You did. Btw, I was being informative, and speaking from my dealings with it. You could have done the same, but, whoops.

I think your being a little over sensitive here, all I said is I would put my sig up as being as good or close, if that eqates me saying HK are bad, you have issues.

You can't watermelon a bullchitter bro.

It's like the Ford, Chevy debate.
-
So your a mind reader?
I have only 2 problems with HK firearms. They are to pricey. I think the USP is a tad clunky looking, but an otherwise fine firearm.
You are right, it is like a ford chevy debate, but in this case I like both brands, I just cant justifie the cost of the HK I want to own. ( P7M8)

The P7 shoots targets like pointing a finger.
As I said though, I got mine used for $500. I have above average size hands, so it fits mine perfect, that is what it comes down too.

but which eye leads? I shoot with both eyes open also but I look through my left eye, sort of. My head is slightly turned to the right and I acquire the sights and target with my left eye. I shoot my handguns lefthanded but my rifles right handed. The handgun feels more comfortable for me in my left hand.

I might do that as well. I never noticed. I'll be shooting in 2 Saturdays. I'll see then.

I have a source for .45GAP 230gr FMJ ammo at 11.50 for a box of 50. So 115.00 a case of 500 isn't too bad...
