I have played about 2 hrs of AH2, not much more. As I expected (and predicted) the gameplay is little different from AH1, though the pattern may have changed due to limited fuel porkability etc.
But it's still the same old, same old follow the green bar, pork/vulch. And despite the calls for new planes, it's still N1K/Spit/LA7/P51 - all the damned time, with few exceptions.
I've played about 1 hour since Tuesday of last week. Logged on tonight - saw friendly field being vulched by about 10 cons. No chance to take off. Went to rook field, but they were about to vulch - 10 rooks looking to kill one spit. Only planes I see are P51/Spit/N1K/LA7 - with too few exceptions.
Boring.
I was on for all of ten minutes - couldn't be arsed to land my CHog, so bailed over the sea. Sod the perk points.
Either give us the large maps, or bring on TOD. I'm not interested in the krappy gameplay we see on the small maps when it's 1945 every day of the week.

Well, ardent AH2 fan though I am, I gotta confess I'm weirdly spending more time offline on Il-2/FB/AEP. Something addicting about picking out one of those old '30s crates and pitting them against some of the later '40s beasts.
Main thing is it's more enveloping -- great sound and graphics, exterior view options to let you better get the feel of the entire battle, limited interior views, no icons or range help, just an immersion in the vastness of the sky and battlefield, looking for those little dots that suddenly roar past and engage.
So far my gunnery and skill are most enjoyable just pitting myself in an old fighter against a couple old bombers. But also fun to escort nine B-17s against a dozen interceptors.
The sounds and fury are really something. At once quite alone while being in a crowd.
Such a beautiful game. Wonderful involvement.
Aces High makes a nice on-line counterpoint to IL-2/FB/AEP offline.
Neither the twain shall meet, it seems.
