Dive bombing B-17s Lancs B-26s etc. just about all bombing now is done by diving into base most times right into deck to kill objects like the Carriers couldnt there be an alt. limit or a level flight limit to stop this?
-
I miss the old bombing system alot. Used to love doing buff runs with that, but it wont return. Maybe it was to easy and accurate.
-
Hard not to be accurate when you are diving right onto object we need some kinda fix for this i think
-
This is what ppl came up with, I think it's very good:
* bombs will be dropped only when in a bombardier's position(F6)
* bombs will not be dropped, when climb/decent guage is over +/- 500 ft.
* above applies to the following bombers - Boston3, Lancaster3, B-17, B-26
* above will apply to the Ju88A with its internal ordnance
* above will not apply to Ar234
-
I like it all but the 500 ft i think since these are high alt level bombers they should be used that way a 200ft or less off level flight would be better with the 500ft variance i think you could still dive into your target but i could be wrong i also think that they should have to drop from at least 3000ft
-
I think you misinterpreted Kweassa there, Shaky - he's talking about the guage that shows rate of climb/decent; not the altimeter.
These level bomber restrictions sound reasonable to me.

It's a problem of gaming the game.
The most efficient way to bomb a base involves hitting the ground immediatly after your bombs hit, saving the long trip back to base.
Even with divebombing buffs 'fixed' it just means using stuff not bound to those rules. (A-20 anyone? 4000lbs of bombs...) If you're going to stop suicide buffs, you might as well do the jabos as well.
Perk the 500/1000lb bombs and the rockets.(Excepting the bomber class planes, excepting the a-20g) i.e. Loading 1000lb bombs turns your plane into a low-cost perk plane.
Reduce the hardness on structures.
Now the primary bombs used are smaller 250lb bombs. The light bombers now have a role in the MA(Free heavy bombs)

(the original idea, bit outdated now though)

Ju-88 in RL was also a dive bomber
-
I could be wrong, but was not the B26 also a low level attack type aircraft in some configurations?
Otherwise why have 50 caliber nose guns? Dogfighting the enemy fighters? or for strafing ground targets, troops, vehicles
The B17 and Lancaster are the medium/high altitude bombers and I agree steps should be taken that cause theses bombers to be used as designed.
Ground attack/fighter bombers should not have thier ordnance perked since this was a normal configuration option. Make a Stuka a perk plane because it is carrying a 1800 Kilogram bomb?
What about the P47's and P38's and the host of other aircraft that have dual roles.
Address the Dive bombing level bombers and leave the rest of it alone.
JU88 was a dive bomber with external and internal loads I believe.
If a player wants to turn his fast and fairly maneuverable aircraft into a slow and sluggish one with heavy ordnance and increase his chances of being shot down or having to jettison his load because of enemy contact, I don't have a problem with it.

I miss the Bomb runs that used to happen in AH1. I can remember taking off from a base with 6 or 7 other guys all in bomber formations and making actuall high level runs on targets. What has changed to make people stop wanting to run these types of flights.
-
i tend to think its not the same people going from 10k to 1k doing this
due to the size of the town and the size of the airbase we now have new guys that dont care about the way these bombers were used so they just grab a lanc form go NOE and try to carpet the VH or town
iv been seeing this over and over
-
two things must be done:
Firstly:
bring back the AH1 bombing model
Secondly and most importantly for bombing runs:
BRING BACK THE NIGHT TIME
anyone who plays with the gamma should be highlighted with pink aircraft and pretty pink pansies next to their icon for the next hour of daylight. :D
-
bring back the AH1 bombing model
Whats different in AH2 in regards to the bombing model? I've seen crackerheads do the suicide dive bombing thing in AH1 with lancs

does the a20 have a bombsight? no... it was meant for low level bombing...

I agree with metavoss, people should only play how I want them to play, and everyone else should think the same way too. Shame on people for playing how THEY want to play, selfish ingrates.

nice ideas there...the perk the big bombs for fighters is good too....well kinda. Perk the bombs, if they land after there jabo run, they dont lose the perks right?
but what if they DONT sucide but get shot down before, on, or after there jabo run?
too many what ifs
the way it is now, the towns are so big, that the low number side (or any side during euro prime time) just doesnt have enough numbers to take a base, while defend others, it forces people to do low level attacks in bombers SIMPLY because it takes to long to get high. All the fighter guys at the base waiting for the bombers to climb to 10k (min i like to bomb at) kinda not fun, so, most people (generaly fighter guys who dont know how to bomb) just take a lanc up, and fly in a 2k (if that).
on the subject of bombs, anyone notice that the blast radius on bombs (1000lbs more so) is far too weak in AHII? a 1000lb bomb landing next to my house would knock it over (let allone a small tank) yet in AHII they dont seem to do much. The amount of times ive seen bombs land within about 5 feet of a city building, and the building not die..........arrg

For those who disagree with low level bombers, read this story
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/case_nazidams/interview.html
Yes they were carrying specalized bombs but I feel some of the same rush when doing this in AH. If I get in undetected great mission accomplished. If I am seen by the enemy before I get there, then fun is to be had by both sides. These missions end in failure more times than they succeed. I am not sure why so many people are against low level bombing. I do see the problem with suicide dive bombers, Suicide anything is silly.

yes, but thats ONE squad that did it, and its failure rate was terrible, much like in MA. id say MOST (like 97.2% lol haha) was med-high level bombing, very few was low level like this, in MA however, its the total oposite almost 2/3s of bomber uses are under 5k most of the time :(
-
I dont really have a big problem with the low level bombing its the dive bombing that pisses me off somewhat.
The B-26 was a low level bomber but not a dive bomber.
I also think if the box of bombers was done away with more people would fly missions together in bombers what with the towns being so large a single B-17 isnt gonna make much of a dent in it but 10 or 20 would
I remember flying in 20 or 30 plane missions in Air Warrior with fiter escorts plus 7 gunners per plane now that was a mission!
AHHHH the good old days of bombing i miss them so :(
anyway thanks for all the responses to this topic some good ideas came up
