When are we gonna start actually securing our homeland?
I live in Southern California. There are estimates of up to 2 million illegal immigrants in California today. Schools, hospuitals and roads are jammed to the limit.
A couple of weeks ago the Border Patrol did some unannounced sweeps in the "Inland Areas" of California. These were all within 10 miles of where I live and were 100 miles or so from the border.
Over 400 illegals were caught and deported.
Now the Bush administration is saying "stop the sweeps" and Kerry won't jump in to disagree I'm sure. You see the 5% Hispanic vote is important when 1% either way could win this election.
Go HERE (http://www.johnandkenshow.com/audio.php?offset=0&per_page=15) and listen to the interview with Asa Hutchinson of the DHS.

Seems kind of strange to me that the issue of "illegals" is one that is intermixed with upsetting "legal" voters.
Has anyone explained to the "legal" immigrants that they are paying more taxes, losing jobs, etc. because of the "illegal" influx? Or are they just trying to get the rest of their families in?
-
Most illegal immigrants are here to better their lives and those of their families by working hard, taking jobs most Americans will not. This country's heart and soul was forged by immigration, both legal and illegal. I'm very surprised to see you posting the thread, Midnight, thats a pretty conservative approach you've taken on the issue.
That being said, I agree, we need to beef up the borders and process these people, just think of the terrorists that want to get into the country to raise havoc...its very easy to cross the border and get into the country.
-
You're right. I am very "conservative" on this issue. I also think English should be mandated as the national language.
Did anyone listen to the interview?

Oh no!!!!!! I agree with MT.
What can we control if we can't control our borders. But would we want to suspend the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878? I think not.
If you think the Patriot Act is a problem suspension of the Posse Comitatus Act could conceivably open the doors to all manner of martial law.
No I didn't listen to the interview.

Living in Texas I have come to apreciate the majority of Mexican immigrants. I have no idea how many are legal or illegal but they are for the most part family oriented/hardworkers. That being said we need to figure out a good way to tighten our borders.
I actually fear the northern border more than our southern. It seems like our Canadian neighbors would not blink an eye if a van load of terrorist came south to cause trouble. I am of the opinion they would boohoo a terrorist attack for about 3 seconds then tell us we had it coming.

mt.. I agree with you but the last gov we had encouraged the illegals as did all the democrat politicians... it isn't republicans calling for drivers licences for illegals or blocking english as the offical state language or pushing the PC and laughable term "undocumented immigrants"
I was fond of the term wetback as is my girlfriend and most of her friends.
The story is that most of the mexicans that are about second generation are as much against the illegals as you are. They rightly feel that it is costing them for no reason.
you are right tho... once the democrats started using the mexicans like they do the colored folk as class warfare...
there is no stopping it... that is the legacy of democrats.

Nice try lazs, but this one can't be laid at the dems feet. Bush is kissing up to Vincente Fox like he was Fox's lap dog. Remember Bush's "amnesty" proposal. Both sides want the "illegal vote".
-
Yep, this one cuts across party lines. Bush knows better, too. I would vote against him just for this issue alone, except his oponent is no better.
-
My position on Illegals, is that they should all come down to our office and get a consultation. Then they should hire my firm to file a few applications on their behalf, then get deported after paying us.

Illegal immigrants flooding across our borders will be the ruin of the county unless it's stopped. They sneak over by the millions and the next thing you know, they are voting and effecting elections and sucking up resourses
I think I heard that about 500,000 have been caught trying to get in this year so far. I wonder how many have not been caught.
Millions and millions are here illegally and it makes my blood boil to think about it.
Those sweeps in Ca are amazing. I was listening to the radio when I was there and I heard about these Hispanic groups complaining that the sweeps had made the illegals "afraid" to go to work on the buses. WTF??!
-
Nuke,
Presumably they're talking about legal hispanic citizens who are worried that they might be 'deported' because they can't prove they are citizens. If they're riding the bus, then they might not have a drivers license.
Think 'Born in East LA'. Remember the story?

No, they specifically said the illegal's where frightened to use the public buses to go to work ( I wonder why?) And they ride the buses because they are illegal and can't get a license.
And they also mentioned that when the INS would leave some of these areas, Hispanics would protest in the streets waving Mexican flags.
We need to get all the illegals shipped out.

You see, it's all part of a meticulously planned invasion strategy that began in 1492.
The USA are about to become the EUA (insert histerical evil laughter here).
Viva el Presidente! (sorry, that's my best hispanic-evil-madman impersonation).

The most dangerous thing about Mexican immigrants is when they get behind the wheel after a payday. The problem is how to you stop the influx of people without some liberal group crying racism. I saw on FNC where people from Arab countrys are paying $50,000 a piece to be brought across the Mexican/U.S border. I guess we will have to wait for the suicide bombers to start killing kids at our malls before we really get serious about homeland security.

So if all migrant worker jobs were minimum wage, us American workers would force the Mexicans back over the border Thrawn?
Lol. I love this BBS. It’s just a one sided whipping when it comes to any type of sparing of the wits.
Kinda getting old though, when it’s so lopsided.

Happy to make your morning brighter Creamy.
Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

It would work the other way around, Thrawn.
First send the 6-8 million illegals home, then all the Jobs they had would need to be filled by LEGAL residents. The market would drive the wages of those jobs higher on it's own.
Probably would create the best economy we have ever had if we sent them all packing.

I agree with[ M .T.]on this one, cant lay it all on demos,I to live in s.ca. and am a contractor.I can tell u that the mexicans who are citizens are very up set at the illegals and almost hate them.for those of u that say they only take jobs no one wants i no u are wrong.in 1988 my crew was 1/3 mexican.there avg pay was12 dollars an hr. the others was 16.[guess i have to add both black and white].had 3 foremans 1 was mexcian pay 22an hr.I am just a small contr. now just have couple guys 1 mexican amer.citizen journeyman i pay 20 because i can. the other 2 i pay 11.[ I could pay my journeyman 17 and the other 2, 9.00 ].If i had same crew as in 1988 there avg. pay would be 10 to 13.50 and i could get mexican amer. foremans for 18.oo hr.A good white foreman to day would be between 25 and 32.50 depending.why are the guys that work for me back then mad.. because the illegals have really depressed the wages in all phases of constr.most the guys that used to work for me are retired and just do side jobs and make about 30 an hr...question have any of u traveled to states that have very few mexicians there...notice the people that work in resturants, fast food ,hotel maids, gas stations etc are white or black.... seems to me that they want those jobs or am i off course?
-
Illegal Mexican workers are taking jobs away from Americans and screwing up wages, elections and the economy, no doubt about it.
Makes me sick. I want so badly to have action taken to get them the hell out of our country.
-
Nuke is right.
They should all come down to 1666 Connecticut Ave, and give us $100 each to straighten this out.

-
They may do SOME jobs we would not do, but they have killed the trade jobs.
Try and get a job in constrution, cabinet making, roofing etc, they are all filled with ilegals working for WAY less then half what a skilled tradesman would have made.
I listened to the interview MT. Sad Double talking BS.
Bush sucks on this issue, I was pissed when he tried to do the amnesty for ilegals crap.
We are screwed by both sides on this issue, in 20 years the US will be another Mexico. Look how well run that hell hole is:(
-
What you guys need is a really, really big wall, complete with minefields, barbed wire, searchlights and border guards!!!
It should keep everyone out, as an added benefit maybe it'll keep everyone in as well.
-
In the entire history of the U.S. we have found only one group to be so unsavory that we had to kick them out...the British nobility.
-
mt... admit that democrats and liberal judges are at least 90% of the problem... they start the policies and defend the illegals and give them power and then you expect the outnumbered republicans to make it all well and good again and be the bad guys who are taking stuff away from babies again?
liberal judges that thwart the will of the people are not appointed by republicans and you know it.
You need to admit that electing democrats makes the problem way worse and that the more republicans you elect the better chance you have of things getting better.
I have a mexican girfriend and work in a town that is 67% mexican... the second generation ones hate the illegals worse than any klan member. They don't want California or Texas to go back to mexico and become just more crap in the craphole that is mexico.

No lazs.
The sweeps were stopped by the Republican administrators of the Border Patrol and Homeland Security. Judges have nothing to do with this one.
I too work with over 80% Mexican Americans. Just last year the Secret Service contacted us. We had an internal investigation done and found 30 employees (out of 800) who were illegals, but were using very well done, faslified documents. One had worked for us for 5 years. The loss of trained employees due to this deception was devastating.

I was wondering if your able to support this statement in any way. I don't recall hearing about any "van loads" of terrorist entering the US from Canada, not that Canada can contol who enteres the USA (I mean it's US Customs they have to pass through). You have done a pretty good job stopping Cows and lumber, maybe you need to apply the same tactics to terrorist (I jest of course). Also I don't recall anyone "boo hoooing" and then telling you that you had it coming.... maybe I am wrong, please post a link. But if you decide to close your northern border the let me know soon, I have to make reservations in Orlando for later this year and I don't want to lose my deposit.

I have 2 solutions to the Illegal immigrents.
First Make Mexico a state Yes by invasion if necessary. After all isnt that what they are doing by sneaking in illegaly?
Then they wont be illegal and we can devellop its untapped resources and they not only wont have to sneak up north but they wont want to.
Or second.
I have no problem with anyone that wants to come to this country for a better life. So long as its done legally.
that being said
Put Troops or paid rednecks who Im sure would be proud to do it along the borders.
Anyone caught sneaking in illegally Man, Woman or child is to be shot on sight.
Leaving only an opening through the desert which they must trek through without any aid such as food or water from us at all. Much like the cubans who if they can swim to our shores cans stay.
You trek through the desert ON YOUR OWN Without help from anyone Manage to survive, and then check into an immigration station once you've completed the task and you have earned your right to stay.

The only real permanent solutions to this problem are these 2:
1. Help Mexico create an economy that is worth staying for.
2. Screw up the US economy so much that Mexico looks like a better alternative.
I vote #1.

I hate to tell you ladies, but a very large percentage of the illegals crossing our southern border are not from Mexico, they are from Central and South America. Oddly enough, Vincente is VERY strict about his southern border. The salamander.

Ripper29, as I'm sure you are aware, not one of the 9/11 terrorists came through Canada to get to the US.
NUKE, this is one area were we are in agreement as far as the issue is concerned, illegal immigrants. We just disagree on methodology. I would prefer to attack demand, you would prefer to attack supply. But really, I also believe that a much stronger board patrol on the US frontiere with Mexico would also be a good thing.

Thrawn,
I say attack both supply and demand.

The answer is fairly simple.
If companies are forced to pay the same wages for illegal immigrants as everyone else, then the incentive to hire them is gone.

Trying to blast Edwards for being a lawyer is just plain silly.
What a bad man he is for guarding the rights of "we" common folk when a corporation thru negligence causes death or injury.
Edwards worked an ostensibly less ridiculous seam: suing doctors and hospitals when babies were born with brain defects. He made his name with a 1985 cerebral palsy case, where he channelled the words of the unborn child as she waited in the womb, hour after hour.
"She said at 3, 'I'm fine.' She said at 4, 'I'm having a little trouble, but I'm doing OK.' Five, she said, 'I'm having problems.' At 5.30, she said, 'I need out'," Edwards told his hushed jury. "She speaks to you through me. And I have to tell you right now - I didn't plan to talk about this - right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She's inside me."
The jury came back with a $6.5 million award, and Edwards was the hottest trial lawyer in North Carolina. His line, in that and other cases, was that there would have been no brain damage if the doctor, instead of the breech delivery, had performed a caesarean. Thanks in part to lawyers like Edwards, there are now far more caesarean sections than ever before, yet without any reduction in birth defects.
The correlation between C-sections and birth defects is non-existent. But Edwards sold junk-science to jury after jury, for big bucks. In his "two Americas" routine, he talks about his commitment to "bringing down the cost of healthcare". One reason it costs more than it did is because of Edwards and his fellow ambulance-chasers.

face it... the enlish language initiative was voted on and struck down by liberal democrat appointed judges... every freebie handout that makes the illegals stronger is democrat sponsored.

Use Prison / "unemployed redneck," sweatshop workers at minimum wage to seal the border by way of a 75 foot copncrete wall with 35 degree overhang.
Every 10 miles, have an 18x18" steel "gate" that opens once a month, for thirty seconds.
