After playing ah2 for a while hunting tanks I find them very hard to spot nowadays in ah2. now. So how about a fiesler storch to spot for ground units. in 1942 they made a "polizi" version that carried mgs ,bombs and smoke markers. come on whos with me!

no thx. nice plane but it wouldnt be used and i think htc should focus on more popular planes

Love the Storch but don't see any real use for it in Aces High. Even if we eventually get artillery and need spotters (as in WB WWI), Germans had better spotters like the FW 189 Uhu.

i would love if you could carry smoke bombs in AH in some aircraft because i like to spot for the GVs

If you really need a slow, stable, and maneuverable at low speed airplane to serve as a spotter---
Why not take something like a VAL? Or a TBM?
The Val makes a reasonaly good spotting airplane and it's maneuverable enough to usually survive awhile against lone enemy fighters.
IL2 can also work in this role. It carrys rockets which can actually be employed as makeshift smoke markers. Downside to the IL2 is it doesn't handle so good and view is rectricted making spotting tougher.
TBF can serve this function too and carries more rockets
SBD and KATE could also probably serve in a spotting role.
All of the aircraft I mentioned share the basic characteristics of the Storch--that is, they're all slow, stable, and fairly docile at low speeds. Some of them also have excellent maneuveraility in addition to guns for defense.
Like the Storch, none of them can really stand up to enemy fighters--but that isn't really the purpose, is it?
I've actually used both the TBM and the IL-2 as a spotter in the MA on rare occasions when there was nothing else to do. The rockets smoke trails don't last long, but they're better than nothing and function like a big visible arrow in the sky if your friendly GV's aree watching for them.

Hi Jab,
>All of the aircraft I mentioned share the basic characteristics of the Storch--that is, they're all slow, stable, and fairly docile at low speeds.
Surprisingly, the Storch isn't stable at all. It seems to have required pilot continuous attention, probably because it was designed for controllability at extremely low speeds.
Another spotting platform might be the Lysander, which unlike the other aircraft mentioned has true STOL capabilities (though the Storch is better at that, of course). I believe the Piper L-4 was also used for spotting.

That IS a bit surprising. Thanks for the info.
I was thinking more along the lines of using what is already availale in AH for the suggested role of a Storch. Certainly we have the equipment to do the job.

The Storch and other field spotting planes would also benefit from my proposed Marritime Patrol target reporting system.
In the case of ships, the Marritime Patrol plane would target the ships (with something along the lines of our check6 feature), then those ships would appear on that country's clipboard maps. (as I've mentioned in other threads, this would have more utility in Scenarios, and possibly the ToD, than in the MA).
In the case of the Storch and Group spotters, perhaps the targets could be selected in the same manner, once selected, have an increased ICON range, to aid attacking aircraft in finding them. I'm not really sure how much utility this will have in the MA, but perhaps with Tank Columns in ToD and Special Events, this would be a usefull feature.

Spotting for tanks was what I had in mind but I guess the same applies for any f.o. role , I think in would quite a challege to fly the storch in the MA . As for being unstable ,EVERYTHING I fly in aces is unstable

lysander much nicer plane

I have wright it again, we need Rescue Missions. When a friend is
eating dust and someone want to help we need a storch to bring him back and save his-ours prettythang-kills also.
Also the downed pilot can atract enemies and we can have nice fights only to protect him.
Gvs can play a role also. In general, rescue missions it can be a senario in his own, and it will be a nice addition in AH.
We also need maned Heavy Artilery using the same targeting system like cruiser but also straight shooting.
I speak for Mobile Heavy Artilery.
Also its time for maned 88`s.
(let me have a talk, with this tiger ;)
edit: after a second thaught and for the economy of resources,
without the storch, we can use c-47 or any gv or fighter (it was also happening in RL).
Just make the pilot to can come on every plane or gv as passenger when on ground. At least this is very easy, and we can have our Rescue Missions without much work (code).
And make that .45 shooting ;)
2nd edit: the more easy way is energize the JOIN command when
on ground and the plane-gv is 10 metres near.
Like this the passenger-pilot can use also guns if necesary :)

I agree with Hades. It would make bailing out more worthwhile.:aok

Also, it would make, some who afraid to fight, to dare more and stay longer inside the furball, cause they have real posibilities to save their kills.
In two words, it will improve the agressive and the number of pilots in dogfights. Realy tough furballs.
And more tougher because under the furball many will try to save their fiends. Its a closed system, recycling from its self.
More pilots go down, more engage just to save them :)
