Ok, we have the luftwaffe contingent, we have the Pony drivers, the Chog dweebs, and the Nancy Boy Spit Drivers.
But how many of you out there actually fly the Yak as your dedicated plane?
I do, and I love it. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
But I see very few Yak's in the arena, and I was curious how many of you consider yourself "Yak'sters"
So if you like to fly Yaks, and actually fly them consistently, raise your hand and join the sacred brotherhood of the Yak.

I fly the Yak pretty much along with the La-5. I would guess maybe half my fighter sorties are with one of those.

<raising hand with pride (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)>
Yep I'm a Yak dweeb (or Tiffi) the only plane that fit me perfect like a glove !
To bad the only encounter we got verm was when I was doing my 1st flight in the 190A5 for about 3 month(and I don't like it (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif))
-
only a 1/2 hand-raise here because i fly other planes in the set as well but i love to fly the yak!
that cannon is killer under d<300, just hard to get in that close for long - if you do only takes about 4-5 rounds to annihilate any enemy - it takes good gunnery to survive in the yak but that is what makes it a fun ride-
-
Yak-man here, but for the perk points, I'd rather fly my 109G2. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I fly mainly Yak but sometimes La5. Trying to learn the F6F so I can fly off the carrier though , but so far just doing so-so in it. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Aww, ripsnort, the great chog cheerleader back in LW iron?

Yup, Yak for me too, as long as I don't intend to do any damage to ground targets when I'll take the Typhoon instead. My gunnery is bag though, part of my reason for flying the Yak is to try and improve it.

I'll tell you this much, those VVS GIAP guys fly the La5 and the Yak, and they smoke people.
If I see the GIAP in the buffer and La5s low, I watch my runs carefully.

Santa, I fly them all, always have, always will!
Incidently, my best K/D ratio is in none other than the P51D...gee, I wonder why? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
(Anytime you can engage, and disengage the enemy at will, 1/2 the battle is won!)
-
I fly the Yak almost exclusively now.
I find no problems getting in close (d300 or less) and shooting, the yak's performance seems to be geared just towards that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) . I also like the fact that only a pony can run me down.. and if it does it sure as hell will have to bleed a lot of E to catch me in those long turn fights (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
*raises both hands* ALL HAIL the YAK!
-
<raises hand>...Energy is Life, Altitude is Life, YAK's is Life !!!
Though I fly other birds on "specialized" missions. YAK is my first choice for unadulterated fighter sortie fun !!!!

I don't fly the Yak, but I wanted to take the time to say this:
I hate you. I hate you all.
The Yak is a tough plane to tangle with in my lowly 1D. If there is a weakness that the 1D can exploit.. I haven't found it yet. But I will... oh yes... and on that day a Yak will die at my hands. Muhahahahaha!

... and don't even get me started on that fricking LA-5!

All I say is :"Yak is my most feared airplane in a P47".
Turns great, catchs up in dives and stay there whatever you do. "aie caramba" is usually my motto when seing one.

Yak lover here too! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I flew it almost exclusively for two or three tours, but then I worried I would become a one-plane pilot, so I've recently taken to the La-5FN. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Part time Yakster here. I like it quite a bit but like flying different planes for a change as well.

One thing that suprises me, is that everyone says the Yak stinks at high altitude.
Maybe I have a different definition of high altitude, but I fight the Yak in the 20-25k range all the time with very little degradation in its abilities.
Now maybe up over 30k yes, but I don't need to get the Yak up that high in the arena

I like the fly the Yak. She's a fun kite to dive into a furball with (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Been flyin JABO and the carrier kites lately though, love the CV ops (cept catching a wire w/ the hellcat or seafire ends in a firey death for some reason)
-
I like shooting them down (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I really enjoy the yak, its a really poerfull AC. Does everythin g well. If you have good gunnery skills, dont mind mixing it up close, have alot of confidence in your ride, this AC will serve you well. I flew it alot after the nuetered the jug in 1.04, but alas I am back in my jug (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

if you see the question 'who was that yak?' in the buffer, you know i'm online!
i love it; it does everything very well. it's one of best energy fighters as well as one of the best turn fighters--a combination you can't beat. but the thing i like best about it is that once you're in somebody's elbow, you're there to stay and there's nothing they can do about it. many f4u's have have augered trying to out-scissor my yak. if nobody else is around i normally wait till i'm under 100 yards before i shoot. if you don't spray, the only limiting factor for the numbers of kills you can get is fuel.
must dissagree with fariz on this one: the 9u is an excellent high-altitude fighter as it more than addressed all the areas where earlier yaks were deficient: thrust-to-weight ratio and engine perfomance being the main areas. also, the yak is astonishingly effective against buffs if you get--and stay--very, very, very close (inside of 60-75 yards). i basically do a tight 'corkscrew' scissors around the path of the buff. by the time the gunner has switched views and aimed, you're already in the next view. at that range a medium-length burst will rip that pesky wing right off. but don't try this with another plane or you'll be eating turf!

Not so much a yak kinda guy, have flown it a couple of times, and its performance is second to none, but it dont have enough ammo for a 50cal cowboy like me.
The La-5FN is my ride of choice for low-alt scrappin. But im still a mustang jock through and through.

Torn betwixt Yak and La5. I like La5 cannons but like Yak for raw speed. Like La5 for booming and zooming but lke for turning and burning. I can't enjoy flying any other planes now. Tried the Niki and found it to be slow compared to Russian planes.

Split between Yak and Lavochkin. Yak handles very well up to 20k+, but has limited armament. Great view, speed, maneuverability.
Lavochkin is still my preferred ride. Better than Yak at low alt, overall. Good armament, longer range.
Now, if I can get my hands on a La-7, three B-20 terror.
-
I still love the la5. It's all I fly.
50 kills, 9 deaths in 1.05 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I've learned how to land the la5 and refuel it on a CV. Which is nice.

Was driving the Yak from Day one when no one else was flying it. The Hardest Easiest plane to fly... Anyway, I'm on strike till AH puts more VVS planes in. Would like to see the Yak-3 and LA-7 as well as the Sturm, so until they arrive I'm gonna tool around with IL-2 when it hits the street..

According to the way Pyro has been modeling VVS aircraft ("production" test data), the Yak-3 should outperform our Yak-9U slighty, and be a much smaller target.
Leonid, I keep on after Pyro to put the x3 B-20mm Yak-9UT in as an armament option, but I think he wants to do it as an entirely seperate aircraft (the UT). But yah, the La-7 with 3 cannons will be a great aircraft.
I have definitely become a convert to VVS aircraft.

The Yak3 with 107 engine, otehrwise known as the Yak3-3 never made it into service before war's end. Yeah yeah I know, some Yak3's were retrofitted with the 107 engine but not sure HT will model a plane that was retrofitted when so many other projects need to be completed first.
The Yak3 that did make it had less performance than the Yak9u. The La7 on the other hand was awesome with a deck speed of 380mph!
