Here's the final product for Col Shomos bird, "The Flying Undertaker". I'd really appreciate any inputs folks might have before I send it off to HT. I know that the left side tail markings are missing in the first photo but it's fixed already.

I'd make that my choice of skins, if no RAF skins are available for the Pony D.
-
I can work on an RAF skin if someone has some reference photos. I'll also search my books to see if there are any RAF schemes in there.
Thanks for the reply.
-
Nice skin Cobra. Mckenna's Ghosts calender this year has an A36 with similar markings. Black and yellow, nice stuff.

Here ya go! :)
It's a 19 Sqn Mustang Mk.IV. The serial number would be mirrored but Pyro said that they'd accept a Mustang without the serial number because of this.
If you're able to do one it would be great! :)

The finished colors and overall tone is very inspiring. Excellent skin!
If I may be the critic, the only drawback in my personal opinion is it seems so clean and perfect that it looks like a clean-washed airshow plane than one in combat sevice.
The weathering differs greatly upon conditions - some planes are relatively clean, others are incredibly dirty(Eastern Front aircraft look like junkyard machines!). But taken that into account it still seems all too clean.
-
Yep, a little too clean but still nice. Perhaps a little dirt weathering and paint chips on the anti-glare nose etc.?
BTW Am I correct in thinking that the main fuselage was natural finish yet the wings were painted silver? (or was it just the flaps/airlerons etc.?)
-
Bill Shomo's plane WAS rather clean.
Not every plane was an over-weathered filthy muddy mess. I think some people take it a bit too far. Especially gun smoke which washes off so easily.

Here's some reference photos I've used to make this skin. There are two different spins on the actual skin so I went with the most well known. I can still adjust the alterations that have been made but I've found more skins in the artist profiles that match than what is actually in the original. It's only a minor change which can be fixed in a matter of about 30 seconds.
Original Photo Unknown Era...

I've found more paint scheme like the last picture so thats what I've went with. I've even found models for sale with this paint scheme. I have yet to find an actual photo from that era with this actual scheme though. It's only a minor adjustment which would remove the yellow bands from the rear portion of the fuselage black banding.
The top photo is the only original photo that exists of this bird that I know of. I've also found a sight that claims the paint scheme I've done is authentic but it's hard to tell with our more original photos. There is one "replica" out there owned by a Mr. Wylie that from other sources isn't completely authentic. His rendition has the solid black fuselage stripes though too.
Oh and yes the wings were painted chromate yellow and then gloss silver over the top. I have two wing skins for this model, one being a bit more blue and glossy and this one which is a bit toned down. According to my Mustang book the fuselage, flaps and ailerons were left a natural color.

One of the best pony skins I've seen. I really like this one! Great Job. :D
-
Yeah what XJ said. Nice skin 412:cool:

A 3 Sqn. RAAF (Italy 44/45) MkIII or MkIV scheme would be great

Thanks for the replies everyone. That skin will actually be overhauled here when I get time. I need to do some rivet work, screw fastners, and weathering. I may even redo the panel lines and change the forward glare painted area to a darker olive drab.
Aaron as far as this skin it was completely redone from the floor up except for tires, inner intake, struts and inner gear well. I'll be looking at doing a realistic inner gear well for it when I get the time. I've finally learned my pen tool in Photo Shop so I'll be able to do wiring and hydraulic lines.
Oh and I haven't placed it on AH skins yet. Wanted to wait and see what corrections HT has for it prior to sending it out.

do u have any thing to take screen shots of your screen of your skin and the wings just tryin to get ideas LMAO wouldent ever copy u LMAO i might make a skin like it but i wouldent copy u but might get some ideas from it

I hope that skin has been submitted to HTC? :)
-
Aaron check AH2 Skin Department for this skin. The files been uploaded.
-
The 3 Sqn. RAAF skin was submitted to HTC - Skin Ref# P51D14061604.
Note: Per HTC request, the "KH807" was removed from the side of the fuselage due to mirroring.

Heya Cobra412 is there any way i can get a blank tempret of your own tempret i just like yours is much better dont know why just is well if u can email
E Mail AaronM2 (acesaaronm2@yahoo.com)
-
Aaron I can send you the template I'm using but I highly doubt Yahoo can accept a file this large. Just the "Main Body" file alone is 6.58 Mb. I'll be toning down the "Wings" file but currently it's over 14 Mb. I'll see how far they will compress when I zip them.
I can also see how far down they'll go if I remove all but the exhaust, panel and rivet work.
-
Hey u got windows messanger or Yahoo i think i know 1 way
-
No leave every thing Now but uif this dont work then yes
-
Aaron sending the body file now. It's compressed to 2.9mb and the wings file is compressed to 7.6mb. I'll send only the body for now. See if you can get it and then I'll send the other. Be sure to save this file to disk and then delete it from your email so I can send the second one.
