Title: Lesbian Anniversary...Opinion?
Post by: muckmaw on July 12, 2004, 10:56:00 AM
Yesterday was my fifth anniversary to my wife.

At about 5pm my aunt called to wish us a happy anniversary.

She's a very good person to me and my family and I almost feel odd asking for opinions on it.

Anyway, oddly enough, today is my aunt's second anniversary, to my uncle.....helen.

So as you've prolly guessed, they are lesbians and though they are not legally married, they had a committment ceremony and call themselves wife and err...wife.

So I need to call her a wish her a happy anniversary, but it bothers me that it's the day after mine. Somehow, I feel like it cheapens the concept of marriage in general and my marriage in specific.

I don't know why.

Well, her anniversary, is about her, not you. As difficult as it must be for you, be happy that she will not spend the rest of her days (and I hope there are many) alone, with no partner with her. I'm sure you would not want her to grow older, alone, with no one to talk to.

Try not to think about the "other stuff." Seems to me like that will only make you more uncomfortable.

Maybe give yourself a pep-talk before getting on the phone. As intuitive as women are, she'll hear the disappointment in your voice if you're not genuine in your well wishes.

Good luck, I hope it goes well

there are all kinds of anniversary's, not just weddings.  since they aren't married it doesn't really reflect on your marriage at all.  so if thats the only reason you don't want to make the call, suck it up and do it.

however, if you don't want to make the call because you think her relationship is morally wrong, you have no obligation to be supportive of it.

If you think your aunt being gay cheapens your marrage, the problem is not your aunt.

Q: What do you call a lesbian with long fingers?

A: well hung

...IF you like the woman, be happy for her

Show your Aunt support, she needs to know she has it from her family.  There are enough challenges for them without feeling they don't have the love and support of those that mean the most to them.

If they weren't family, I would suggest asking for pictures!  :D

In the long run, your feelings of uncertainty will seem to pale in comparison to being there for family.

Uncle Helen's got nothin on my Aunt Robert! That limp-wristed fudge-fest-lovin goober makes most gay guys look perfectly normal.

Alright, calls done...

I sang the "Happy Anniversary" song and made her laugh.

I then asked what they were doing for their day, weakly fishing for some hot lesbian sex stories...but no dice.

;)

Never use "fish" and "lesbian" in the same sentence - only confuses them :)

It's pretty weak.

Just sing "Happy Anniversary" over and Over again to the William Tell Overture.

I was out drinking with my lesbian friends last week. That sentence sounds weird.  Friends of my fiance (now stop with the fantasys). Three lesbians there was.  I asked one about marriage if it ever was made legal here.  She didn't see the point. She sounded a bit like a bloke actually.  Looks it a bit too. She's a cop or a Garda we call them. Likes fast motorbikes, drinking and betting on the horses.  Sounds great, if she wasn't lesbian I'd marry her LOL  The perfect woman. She'd get you off speeding tickets, can handle herself in a fight, won't object to me buying a fireblade, likes a flutter on the GG's and mixes a mean cocktail.
Why can't there be more women like her, straight ones anyway.:lol

As soon as I found out what a lesbian is, I realized I must be one. I fail to see what's wrong with that :)
