More newb questions...

If I design a skin and put it in my skins dirs on my system, is it uploaded to the servers automatically or am I the only one that can see my masterpiece skin?

You can only use it offline.  For it to be made available online you have to submit it to HTC and if it is deemed acceptable it would then be introduced into AH2.
