Title: what end users can do for a game
Post by: Zigrat on November 27, 2000, 08:38:00 PM
one thats over 2 years old now ...
mabye soon HTC will let users make skins, i sure hope so
the 64 total tiles available for terrain in eaw sure help too

and trust me, it runs a whole lot faster than AH (tho ah has better flight models for sure)

yeah thats a nice pic hblair, but u notice how u can't have a nice 190 winter camo to go with the terrain? or that you only have 5 base textures to use?

I'll take the AH flight model. The eye candy will steadily come as the game progresses. How bout those EAW cockpits?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

EAW actually runs slower than AH on my cii566 128mb ram geforce SDR.

And the graphics when down low, ew.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Don't get me wrong; I am an ex EAW'er.

Zig's point is well made though.

 Not if you run EAW from your hard disk using a CD emulator Santa.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Dont understand a thing of that Santa, EAW is very economic with CPU and graphics performance. I ran it at 1280 on my K6 300 Banshee with no problems (except hurting eyes). A thing suddenly occurs to me.. Santa are you sure you have patched it to version 1.2?
Graphics down low??? Its simply amazing in EAW, never forget the 1v1´s I had with Cavalear, where we zigzagged between radarmasts and trees and farmhouses. Its also fantastic to attack a train in EAW you can allmost smeel the smoke when roar past it at low alt. You probably gotta set ground detail to "high" Santa.

Only things I dont like in EAW is the scriptet flightmodel, its a realistic and hard FM in full realism but its a bit oldfashioned compared to warbirds and AcesHigh. On the other hand the FM´s and gunnery are perfectly balanced in EAW. Only a very good shot can do a Headon kill in EAW, so if you want to avoid headons you can do it. Also blackout defensive is impossible in EAW because you go from blackout to G-loc if you yank too hard with stick. I would like to invite HiTech or Pyro to a multiplayer session in EAW, to show em how good the multiplayer gameplay actually is in EAW. Eh.. and then offcourse the historical cockpit with Metric gauges and bullitcounter only in the planes that actually had those.

Dang if only I had maintained my EAW skills I would challenge the whole bunch of ya for a 1v1   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Santa & Zigrat do you fly EAW online? Would like to have a little session with ya som time. I could never go back to fly EAW on a regular basis though. I tried a while ago but the scriptet stalls chased me right back to AcesHigh.

Title: what end users can do for a game
Post by: aztec on November 28, 2000, 09:08:00 AM
A tree is a very large plant.
A farmhouse is a house where the farmer lives.
A pole is a dead tree.
A train is a large mechanized vehicle that runs on rails.

Possibly a very dumb question coming. Can you change the resolution in EAW? I used to have it, but took it off a long time ago when I got my voodoo3 card which didnt seem to want to run the game properly in the low res. Can the res be turned up? I'd like to try out some of these skins  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Don't know, these are AH screen shots ( at least mine are) They are not EAW skins.

If you look closer at my screen shots you'll see i'm getting 44-84 frames , this is in 32 bit 1200 with clutter ON.

The screen shots really lost alot in the transition to jpg.

You have to edit a txt file on it, and with that you can set the resolution up to what you want...

Dont remember wich file, but you will find the info on the patch readme.

guys I am not arguing that aces high is ugly!

I am saying we should have the ability to make skins to be SUBMITTED to htc for approval and inclusion in the next patch they release.

you could use whatever the heck u wanted to uiin H2H, but to have your skin "sanctioned" for scenario play you would have to submnuit it as is the current process with terrains.

btw heres a cool aces high screenshot since everyone else is posting them  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Nuttz, I was going to start building a Pacific map (maybe factual, maybe fictional, hadn't got that far yet). Now I don't have to.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Real nice work.

Can you change the resolution in EAW?

First you gotta get the 1.2 patch Newguy. You get that from the microprose site. As RAM says you will find how its changed in the 1.2 readme. But I post this anyway:
EAW.ini is a little but very important file in the EAW folder. You open it with notepad or another editor. The very first section in the file is about graphics and it can look like this:

[GRAPHICS]
TestDrawPrimitive=0
DisplayDevice=2
PlaneDetail=2
TerrainDetail=2
CloudDetail=2
EffectsDetail=2
HorizonDistance=2
Shadow=1
ExternalStores=1
LensFlare=1
LightSourcing=1
VirtualCockpitGauge=1
CockpitShake=0
VirtualCockpitProp=1
3dCityTargets=2
Gamma Value=50
Width=1152
Height=864
Bpp=16

Hope it helps  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Note that I turned cockpit shaking off because it gave me a terrible headache (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I'd be for user designed paint schemes as long as they're Historically correct and refereed by HTC.
