Title: Rec. pls. AHII compatible Dual montr VC
Post by: owada on July 15, 2004, 03:48:20 AM
Looks like I'll have to upgrade the Video card, I used to use a G400 matrox with dual monitor ports which was excellent. Can someone recommend an AH2 compatible card ideally with dual monitor facility (not TV - dual monitors).

Alternatively what is the cheapest AH2 compatible Card ?

owada,

The ATI 9600pro, 9800Pro w/DVI offer good dual monitor support
As does the FX5200, FX5700, FX5900 series
Just check the stats on each and visit the card manuf site before buying.

Yes I noticed they have dual monitor support but as they only have one monitor port how is it done ? The Matrox, by contrast had two ports, one for each monitor. On the Matrox you can drag from one screen to the other and/or see different views from the cockpit for example. Can these cards do this ?

I think most if not all current Nvidia and ATI cards come with one VGA port and one DVI port.  Many also come with a DVI-->VGA adapter.

Over here the ASUS Radeon A9600SE-TD 128MB DDR also comes with the DVI adapter and is about as much as I can afford at the moment. The only thing is I read it needs a 1800ghz processor mine is AMD Athlon XP 1800+ ~1.5GHz, would this be a problem ?

I'm considering this board or one of the FX 5200s though both need a min 1800ghz processor apparently.

I also need some more RAM but don't know the significance of the PC# number as in DDR-SDRAM 256 Mo PC 3200.

I just ordered a dual head fx5200 refurb at newegg for like $45. It's for another machine - using a 9800 pro in here.
