Guy here in BC sued his former employer for violating his rights and won.
The guy belongs to some sect of christianity that worships on new moons.
In addition to the normal holidays. He needed 5 religios holidays a year, a holiday on any new moon and could never work on saterdays.
He got a job with the company. Asked for the first day off and they gave it to him. Asked for his second day off(in the first month of work) and they refused. He never showed up that day and they fired him. He sued for religeos discrimination and he won 8700 dollars. ($50 US).
This angers me but I dont know if it angers me because the guy is a member of some christian sub cult or because I think goverment has now business enforcing stuff like this on business. You cannot of course ask the guy what religion he is befor hiring him cause that would be discrimination!
if a cult says that every day ending in "day" is holy does a company have to give them those days off?
Should left wing or right wing people be outraged by this?
-
everyone should be put off by this. It is not "left wing or right wing" issue. This is a case of the employer being cheated in my opinion. This is bad for everyone.

A business cannot ask about religion, but we do ask if there is any reason a person cannot work certain days, hours or scheduled overtime. If they say no reason then missing work for an extra religious holiday is grounds for termination due to lying on the paperwork.

What lazs said. What does politics have to do with a dork trying to shaft his employer?

Only in that judges are political appointees and this guy was just a nut case until a Judge said he was in the right.

LOL! Wow, the exchange rate is worse than I thought. :lol

If the guy informed his prospective employer about the holidays before he was hired and they said no problem, and then he was fired, then he was lied to. Then he has grounds.

No one will be free until everyone succumbs to socialism. That way everyone can shaft their employer equally(everyone will work for the guberment of course).
Viva la Revolucion!

Everyone loses with this type of b.s. left and right, young or old, male or female.
But I will tell u this....this man had nothing to do with christianity. There is no such thing as a christian sub cult, you either are or u are not.

Dunno about that. Unless I read the rules wrong, it's supposed to be about love, compassion and forgiveness but there seems to be some kind of sub cult of intolerance and hate.
Worshipping moons as a Christian sub cult?.... I don't have a real hard time believing that.
