Where are ppl getting this info online about ranks?
Are the ranks a monthly update, or is it kept update?
-
Stats are updated more or less in real time... I don't know how often the scoring system recalculates rank but I would venture a guess that it's hourly or maybe daily. You can check your rank either on the webpage under scores or in the arenas on the roster.
My advice to you would be not to worry about rank too much. Not trying to tell you how to enjoy the game but be careful not to nessesarily equate a high rank with a high degree of skill. If achieving a high rank is your goal and you will have fun trying to meet the goal, fine go forth and enjoy yourself, but I for one had much more fun the moment I forgot rank and just played.

Good advice, I suggest you take it!
Leave ego/rank/score at the door for the first year.
Fly to challenge yourself, to learn, to make friends, to have fun.
If you can land kills, thats a bonus.

Don't let him fool you Ohio, he's really a closet scorepotato. :p

It' is worth checking your kill/death statistics. They tell you better how you're doing better than rank. If you never goon or drive cv's/boats or bombers your rank will be crap..
-
The ranks are calculated daily between 11:20-11:30am EST. The stats post every time you end a sortie.
The stats can be a good measure of where your making progress, but I agree, dont worry too much about rank while your learning AH.
Also Innomin8 has a nice stats page that accesses HTC scoring data and displays them in a nice format. Aircraft Stats (http://www.innomi.com/ahkillstats/)

Thanks for the advice.. It's going to be hard to swallow
puting all the deaths behind me before I get decent, but
it's nice to know that at one point we all were bad at this game.

the only way you learn is make mistakes. mistakes often lead to you dying. so from dying, if you play attention, you learn.

if ya click here http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/105score/105score.pl?gameid=ghosth&tour=svsl1.hitechcreations.com:0:Tour12 you can see how our friend GHOSTH did way back on tour 12 in the start of 2001
Over all he did pretty good, tho I think there were only 300 people flying way back then :D It also showes practice is the way to go, look at the hours he put in that month.
Hang in there Ohio, you'll get there!! Good Luck!
