Title: GV Turret Operation with Engine Off
Post by: Halo on July 16, 2004, 08:36:24 PM
In Aces High, seems like can operate ground vehicle gun turrets indefinitely with the engines off.  Is this realistic?

Judging from normal civilian vehicles, wouldn't want to run much of anything more than a few minutes without the engine running or the battery would suffer severely.

Are military vehicle batteries that much more capable?

Manually rotated turrets.

They're equipped to be cranked around by hand.

Rate should be slower though, IIRC.

I remember scenes of ack being hand cranked, but in armored vehicle turrets too?  Hand crank a tank turret?  Must be a crew of Popeyes with plenty of spinach.

It would make sense to have slower rotation then if engine turned off.  Hmmm, never noticed if this is already programmed in Aces High.

Did a quick test of gun turret rotation in Panzer,  M-16, and Osti with engine on and off.  Rotation speed seemed the same with engine on or off.

Since gv gunnery accuracy, situtational awareness, and stealth are usually improved with engine off, would think gun rotation should be slowed if done by hand cranking.

If this makes sense, perhaps gv experts could suggest the most accurate rotation speed reductions.
