Both the Osti and M-16 gun range settings max out at 600. Is this the limit of their effective anti-aircraft range?
I hope so, because I cannot hit squat with AH 2 manned ack. Used to think I was a fairly good shot, but no more. (Yes, I do understand leading targets and sometimes practice on a pretty good skeet and trap simulator.)

The Ostwind's bullets used to go out to ~2.5k IIRC. The .50s on the M16 probably go around 1600-1800 yards if they are like the airplanes .50s.
Convergence is different from the bullets actual range, you don't really need to bother with it on the Ostwind, wouldn't think you'd need to mess with it to much on the M16, although you might want to set it to 600-650 or so.

Ive gotten 2 kills with manned 37mm ack at 4.5k.

Straight up ?

I wasn't thinking gv gun convergence but general range and drop. Easy to hit bull's-eyes at 600 yards max setting, but I'm still looking for a better idea of what ack range I should expect kills in AH2.
Particularly puzzling because in several instances attackers have flown straight at and over me as close as 200 yards and escaped with no damage. Yes, I have gotten some kills, and yes, I have made sure the sight has the accurate head position, but in most instances field ack lethality seems dramatically reduced.

Lethality seems the same. It's the target thats smaller.
Taking a cue from what I've seen in the cockpit, I open fire at 2k with manned AAA now. In AH1 I always opened at 4.5K and would sometimes get hits but those days are gone.
