was  wondering  as this  was  basiclay  the  same  aircraft  just  different  maker  if    a  tbf  skin  would  be accepted  for  a tbm  
    i know  they  are  taking others  for    other   types  of  planes

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are the same plane.  They are named different only because they were made in different factories.  You might have to check up on the exact models though.

If memory serves, and I may have it reversed here... TBF's were manufactured by Grumman whereas TBM's were manufactured by General Motors... that is the only difference I am aware of.  (and I may have them switched like I said)

Yep, TBF were manufactured by Grumman and TBM were manufactured by General Motors

M for General Motors
U for Vought
C for Curtiss
D for Douglas
F for Grumman


This designation system was only used for the US Navy and Marine Corps during World War Two. The Army Air Corps did not use the same designation system, completely leaving out the manufacturer.

the TBM was made by General Motors while the TBF was made by Grumman

Also, FG is stand for "Fighter Goodyear" Corsair
