Not a bad showing for our first RJO in AH2, but I doubt it will end up in a reset. Nightmares were with the Central Strike Group in the 38/39 area, and I gotta say Salute to the Bishops defending there ... they gave us all we could handle :).

Mugz, can ya blow them pics up a little. I can`t see them very well. lmao

This is the reason most of the Muppets went Nit tonight. From the talk on squad Ch it looks like we are going to stay Nit.
Thanks to all the squads who came Rook for helping to ballance out the MA. It was a well needed move as the Rooks have been suffering from a number shortage for months now.:aok

Yesterday's revenge, be it ever so sweet.
WTG RJO!

The 367th spent 3 + hrs porking rooks barracks and ords prior to the mass rook numbers that we expected. Had that not been the case things may have been alot worse:rolleyes:
At around 3 AM GMT there were 227 rooks on (Sorry Exbrit I was closeist guessing 189). I had made several fight sorties without serving. Bleeding LA7's everywhere. So i swigged the last of me beer and retired to bed:p

Wish I'd been there (as Rooks :) ) but I was away at my sister's wedding yesterday, staying overnight, and just got home a short while ago. WTG Rooks, maybe next time I'll get there! :aok

Hey Rooks don't break an arm patting your selves on the back for out numbering the other countries by 100+ people. When you out number the other teams by that many people, It takes no skill to get kills because you can just gangbang every one. I don't get how you could have any fun or be any fun for the other counties when you out number everyone one by such a huge margin. The only thing this accomplishes is either people switch sides to join the Rooks or log off out of frustation which creats an even larger imbalance. Every time I see this it reminds me of Custer's last stand and then to make things worse, you go and pour salt in the wound by publishing a post about it, bragging to everyone what an accomplishment this was. Bad, bad form, very bad form and before you whinners chime in about how the knights had the numbers a couple of years ago, two wrongs don't make a right and to me it's not about winning or losing but how you play the game but I guess in this Global Environment of selfishness and self centeredness, winning at any cost even if you have to stack the deck to win is everthing and don't forget to step on number 2 when your climbing that ladder.
-
I'm with you meddog. I just don't see how that's any fun. When the numbers get that lopsided, it's like beatin' up on the retarded kid in a wheelchair, then thinking you're a badass.

Meddog and Polaris:
I'm sorry if you were offended by my post. It looks like, from the attached clipboards, a Bish started this thread, not a Rook. My reply was mainly to salute the Bish at 38/39, who fought us to a standstill for a good portion of the RJO. I think the Bish and Knights did a masterful job of countering the RJO, and there were good hard fights in the North around 24/25, Center around 38/39, and a slugfest South around 61/62.

I was on last night and found a lopsided fight (more knits than rooks). It evened out and lasted the hour and half or so I was on. I had a great time.
Also, if you like the knits/bish out numbered the rooks and could have pounded 'em.
...anyway, if you ***** about numbers now and didn't before, then you are a tool.
-
By "before" I assume you mean those times where Knights were the majority? If that's the case...sorry, I never played AH during those days.

Spent the better part of the evening doing the exact same thing in the south..
Flew some planes I hadnt flown in a while FM2 and a tiffy and got into some pretty fun fights.

Perk system does jack ****. People don't switch sides to try to collect perks.. hell, they don't even bother leaving their spi/nik/la7/p51/tiffie.
Its broke, but damned if I know how to fix it. I say just abolish the perk system all together. Keep the 262 perked, unperk everything else. Couldn't possibly be more boring having an arena full of tempests, spit 14s, and F4U4s that won't fight than the current crop.

Well Rooks did get the reset. Meddog and Polaris, nice original insight. Don't think i've seen your whine, errrr, comments before. Don't Blame Rooks for your troubles, I noticed Bish defections/logoffs enmass. Whilst we did have the numbers advantage, both Knits and bish did well to hold us off until your true and dedicated few gave up. Look in the mirror, that's where Knits and Bish will find is the real unfairness of the game.

I'll say it again -- the issue isnt total numbers, its organization. Every squad I've ocme across as a rook has at least one of their squad nights sunday PM. I'd bet total subscribers are about equal, but the rooks who belong to squads show up sunday pm -- if other countries don't do the same, a temporary disparity shows up.
Having said that, there's also a market forces effect here. My autoassigned first country was the Bish, but I got very frustrated at the lack of 6 calls, and the ineffective disorganization I kept seeing. i got tired of losing bases all the time -- so I switched to rook in my second month.
As JB said, look in the mirror as you taste the whine.....

meddog / polaris...
dont forget weeks went into planning this event, like all RJO's
just because we organize to get a high turnout and you bish / knits dont makes us bad how???
the squads that participate in RJO all email eachother,. and in turn each individual squad member. there's some 200 contacts on the RJO email list. imagine if everyone from every squad had shown up.
my only guess as to why you are upset is either you lack the skills to organize something similar, or just want to be in your own "horde" flying your spit/nik/la7's .
get a life, and stop whining about the quantity of your virtual "enemies".

These instances are not the norm. They have nothing to do with perks. It is merely a chance for some to massage their egos. These folks aren't about competition...if they were, they would be trying to help organize some opposition. Actually, this is nothing new. Heck, seen even worse odds before (try 7 to 1 arena odds :)).
Personally, I like it when the rooks put up numbers like that. It has forced me to expand my entertainment options (Rise of Nations is good for the couple of hours it takes the rooks to complete their Sunday night circle jerk :)).
So, look at the upside...expand your horizons :D.

Well, it may not even out the numbers, but the benefit of cheap access to perk vehicles and aircraft does tend to offset numbers.
Last evening, during the RJO, my squad was assigned to hold the line against the Knights. So we flew for most of the evening at A62, defending. Numbers were generally equal, but the never ending parade of Knit 262s was amusing. Only a handfull were interested in actually fighting. Most were content to fly around above the fight in the hope that they could cherry pick some guy distracted with other fighters (a common 262 practice regardless of country).
I seem to recall that I saw you there too in a Panzer.
I spent time in F4U-1D, Spitfire V and even flew a sortie in a N1K2. I even ran a couple of resupply goons in. There was a small group of jokers who were flying out of A60. Their whole purpose was to grab a 190 or an La-7 and head to A62 in pairs or alone. Whereupon they would dive on the field and try for a vulch or two before getting whacked. When one of them nailed my SpitV on the rearm pad, I took up a Corsair and went on a dweeb hunt. These guys were trying to sneak in below the radar. While we had a couple of us on station south of our field, most didn't make it.
Another funny sight was the number of former fuel porkers who still insisted on strafing fuel tanks, despite it not being possible to reduce the fuel below 75%. Old habits die hard I guess.
All in all, the fight between the Knits and Rooks was a good old-fashioned even-up brawl. If you enjoy furballs and GV battles, A61 and A62 were the places to be last night. When I finally logged off, no fields had exchanged hands and the fight was still going strong.
Those squads assigned to defense against the Knights almost certainly had more fun than those involved in the Rookskrieg against the Bishops. There was no lack of targets and willing enemy for either side.
My regards,

Heaven forbid if a bunch of squadrons get together and have a night where they work together to win a map and get perk points and the fun of feeling like they're on a team rather than a giant solitaire tournament.

NoBaddy I will be perfectly happy to talk to anyone on the Knit or Bishop side on what the Rooks did to get themselves out of being the country with the least numbers from 2000-2003. Basically something happened in 9/2003 to cause the Bishop and Knight numbers to take a dive while the Rook numbers held steady and grew a bit.
Several of the Rook squads got together back on 10/2001 and started trying things to improve our situation (combine ops, recruiting drives, etc.) which we think (rightly or wrongly) built the country back up to the point that in 2003 we started having parity in numbers and then more numbers; took 2 years.
More than happy to discuss with you.
I also spent a fair bit of last night discussing the current MA situation via PM with the several C.O.s of the other countries about what might be done to help address things.
Unfortunately, as pointed out most Rook squads have their squad nights on Sundays and have had them that way for a long time. 367th showed some good strategic insight on attacking Rook resources yesterday before the time most of the Rook squads logged on. Nice thinking and well done.
The RJO also fell on last night which bumped up the numbers a bit over usual but not tremendously so consider, as pointed out, there were times when the RJO fielded over 300+ for combined ops. Difference last night was instead of 200+ people doing their own things there was some unified direction.
Several squads duking it out with the Knights in the south in 61, 62, 60, and A9 area.
The defense of A39 was well run and took 2 hours finally to reduce. And the northern counter attacks against A22 and defense of A23 from A25 was well executed.
-
Was in the fight at and all around 61-62 area and had a great time!!!!!!!
It kept teeter totering back and forth. Rooks comin in over the field vulchin and then Knights would return the favor further west.
Flew 109's mainly :) 109f4, 109g2, and 109g10, but did get out and into a really good fight near 59 with 4 Rook pony's and a spit that jumped in later while I was in a 190d9, had help from 2 squadies ROCKY and WMSpin. Think the ponys flew out of A9 area. We would of had a 4th squadie, teufl (or CO), but he got tied up at A60 with 8 or 10 more ponys. We then got into it with the 5 or 6 left over Rook ponys just west of 60 upon RTB.
Was allot of Knights all around during this stuff engaged with other Rooks was a really good fight!
Numbers seemed pretty even most of the time I was online and in the south.
I would here like to thank the Free Birds for their actions last night! It looked like the entire squad flew into 61 at one point and dropped supplies! WTG FBJoker SIR
Was a very enjoyable evening and fight :aok
TY

Wrag tried to have the action split along 4 lines (which changed to 3 later). In the south was deployed III/JABOSTAFFEL, =GHOSTS=, DE OL ONZ of AW, 412th Fighting Brauncos, CAF, and I think 2 other squads that escape me at the moment.
Looked like Knights had about 70% of their forces their from watching Dar Bar; so I think Rooks had a number advantage but nothing catastrophic .. probably around 20 planes. But the narrow front helped make things interesting with neither side really being able to outflank each other.
The other lines of attack were the central Bishop front (which started as two areas then boiled down to a slug match at A39) and the Northern Bishop front which turned into a slug match around 23, 22, and 25.
Then you had a special ops strikes (single squads) doing annoyance raids and a strategic bomber ops launching to hit cities and stuff.
So you had 3 main fronts, 1 minor, and then bomber strikes. I know it didn't seem it but did parse things out a bit but there still was probably 120+ deployed versus Bishops (across 2 fronts), say about 10 in deep bomber ops, and 90 versus Knights.
Figure the Knights had about 88 deployed versus Rooks (70%) and the Bishops had probably a little bit more maybe 100 (80%) best guess .. but could have been at 70% level. And the rest was involved in insipid fighting on the Bishop Knight Front.
Several areas of well run defense and as 367th pointed out some previous ground work laid.

Holy Christ, relax. I'm not blaming anyone for anything. We're saying it's not a real tactical accomplishment. See the "beating up on the retarded kid" statement above. Cause that's about spot on.
Take a pill already, would ya?
BTW, I'll be the first to admit the Knights are about the most unorganized group of people I've ever seen.

That battle along 61/62 area had to be the worst slug fest I've seen!
Our Rapid Thunder squad was otw to A9 when the JB's and I believe the Nightmares took and while still heavy, we proceeded to gain alt and get the orders to hit 61/62 (having a hard time remembering at 430am, but it was the south part of the Baltics) and we joked about the opposition, seeing that there were friendly bars in that area.
By the time we arrived, our buds have either been chased away or destroyed, and we descended in a divebomb attack into a hornet's nest. I went in full bore, and in the process of pulling out, I came up on a La-7 that was just cruising along. Engine screaming, I fired all 8 of my P-47's .50cals and tore that la-7 a new one. Then I got into a fight with another P-47 and I think it was a NIKI, but considering the hornet's nest, there were bogies all over.
True the reset took nearly 8 hours, I believe that the RJO did set it up, as even afterwards there were squads still using the same channel to continue operations.
A39 = Hell

Call it what you want..an organized horde is still a horde. If someone challenged you to a fight and you brought 10 buddies with you is that considered an organized plan? I dont see how having a 100 plus player advantage can be fun. But then if i was on the other side....(hmmmmm) Its just human nature I guess..hell it makes me sick when i see 30 bish chasing a single con on the deck but they still do it. There is generally alot of laughter about the poor soul in the spit who got ganged following the slaughter. The side with numbers racks up kills, takes bases and decreases the chance of getting killed dramatically...all the while landing mass squad kill sorties..of course their gonna have fun. Like i said its human nature to exploit an opportunity, especially in a video game. (vulch anyone? )
-
LOL Yup, I was there, 61-62 was a great fight indeed. But then again the numbers never got overwhelming and it seemed only a few serious efforts were made on the rooks part to make any headway. A Move that kinda surprised me.
I was there in Several Panzers, an Osti a couple Tigers, Several times in 190's Tiffies and even a few FM2's.
Had the most fun in the air in the FM2's. (I was the one that kept comming in and nailing your barracks and dar)
but that wasnt what was most fun about it.
The Fun part was outmanuvering all those planes that gave chase often if not killing them outright. causing them to auger.
At one point in one flightI had 4 legit kills 1 vulch and caused 4 others to auger trying to keep up with me( a tactic I practice in the FM2) before one of the remaining planes finally got me was truely a blast.
Had 4 or five more similar flights including one I landed that got me 16.5 perks. But that one I was eventually shot down in was easily the most fun.
Another time I actually managed to fight my way in and get my tank onto the feild at 62 and had it along side of a hangar when a feild ack came up and took out my turret. Killed that feild ack with the hull gun. Right after that another feild ack came up and I ran out of ammo before I could kill it. Musta been an auto ack cause it must have been hitting me at a hardpoint cause all it managed to do was take out my left track.
Right after that a plane came in and killed my engine and then my right track. Inasmuch as the feild ack showed no signs of being able to kill me I figured I'd sit there a while and let it shoot at me rather then any friendly planes that may be comming in.
Musta sat there a full 15 minutes with what seemed like 10 planes trying to strafe me down and having zero success in doing so. Collected 9 proxie kills from people augering trying ot get me on top of the 3 panzers and 2 planes I killed with my main gun before it got knocked out I was LMAO as plane after plane after plane dove in on me. What was amusing is My tank was useless yet everyone was treating me like I was the gravest threat on the planet I just sat there cause I figured as long as all these planes were pointlessly diving on me there were that many less to be diving on or shooting at my countrymen.
Eventually VH musta came back up cause something popped me with a single ping that sounded like a tank round and I was back in the tower.
Was the most amusement I've had just sitting there and doing nothing in a long time. Plane comes in tatatatatat BOOM he augers

Call it what you want Jaxxo .. the Rooks did not hit either side with 100+ player advantage. We split the forces close to 60% versus the Bishops and 40% versus the Knights.
From what I could tell 80% of the Bishops fought the Rooks ... 100 fighting around A39, A22, A23, A25.
That is roughly 135 rooks versus 90-100 Bishops. About a Rooks advantage 35 at around 9 - 11 .. at 8 - 9 I think more Bishops were messing with the Knights and then shift into defense mode later.
While against the Knights I would say roughly 70% of the Knights fought the Rooks along a very small font .. 2 bases with no real room to maneuver.
That is roughly 90 Rooks versus 87 Knights at A61, A62, and A60 area. Numbers there were roughly equal or maybe say up to 10 plane advantage to the Rooks.
The RJO squad purposedly split things this way .. 40% to the South to stop the Knights drive on the Rook homeland while the others went after the Bishops to drive them back. Not all 225 Rooks attacked one front at once.
Alot of the fun factor for the RJO squads comes from doing types of missions that usually don't happen unless you are a big squad with large turnout.
For example AirMAgeddon, NightHawks, and SkyKnights conducted bomber operations through out the night against fields and strat targets. While other squads provided escort to targets and back.
Several squads set up screen and sweep missions .. 412th comes to mind .. instead of just capping a field and mindlessly vulching as what usually happens in the MA. Others did JABO role .. others gooning supplies and troops and other escorting goons.
So what the organization did was allow for more complex roles and mission types to be done in the MA because it allowed for several squads to come together and complement each other. A 5 person squad could go bombing while another squad provided escorts .. instead of just bombing with no escorts or support.
At the beginning of the night (8 pm EDT) the Bishops were in the lead with around 36 bases and the Rooks had about 12.
Imbalances do happen and sunday night just happens to be the night most Rook squads have their squad night. RJO just also happened this time to fall on that night so it was also organized.
But imbalances happen other nights too .. last night at 9 pm EST in the MA it was 157, 106, 124 (Bishop, Knight, Rook). At 10 pm EST it was 183, 128, 139. Not as severe as sunday but still a smaller imbalance. Where the major imbalance could have happened on sunday is if the Knights and Bishops refused to stop fighting each other while the Rooks started operations. This didn't happen .. the Knights and Bishops through the bulk of their forces (whether organized or just happened) into defense against the Rooks and fought some well run battles and defenses and refused to give up ground without a fight. Well done.
What it looks like is that depending on the time and day either the Rooks or Bishops are fielding numbers while the Knights now are the country with low numbers.
I know HiTech likes the idea of not letting people switch countries to the country with the largest numbers .. this to stop the complaint of independents or others switching to the bigger side to gain perkies or whatever.

Well our first goal was to stabilize the Knight front while we retook land lost in the North and in the central area (A12, P7, V11, A9, A10) of our mainlaind by the Bishop earlier. Basically to get the Bishop away from our strat targets and from hitting our HQ with buffs and strat factories with JABOs.
Later was having a time breaking the defenses at A39 (god the Bishops were stubborn there .. 2 hours to break it and that was with constant bomber missions, JABO ops, and setting up fighter screens .. and two very serious GV attacks .. LVT and GVs from 10s). If any Bishop was organizing the defense there .. he and his squad did a good job.
Then had to put down an organized Bishop counter attack in the north around A22. Whole A22, A23, and A25 area sucked up lost of resources.
So from 9-11 never had the excess forces to really send to the South to try to start an offensive. At once point I think sent down CAF in bombers and Rapid Thunder in JABOs when it got really hot. But as said was busy in North and Central area with some very dogged defenders.

No....we want to up 190's and make 550mph Vulch passes down the runways then extend for 10 miles , then U-turn and repeat. Then a few of us will land our hard earned kills together and wait for the shower of WTG's from our countrymen:rolleyes:

I don't care to get started on the numbers whine, but I will say this: At no time when the rook numbers are astronomical was the Bishop/Knight frontline quiet.
Spare me all the canned responses regarding organization. Not everyone likes to fight 6 to 1 odds (fortunately, I'm not smart enough to avoid them, so I still have fun), and those folks (bishops and knights) wind up fighting on the 'fringe'. While this makes for more interesting fights for those folks, it skews the numbers along the major fronts even more.
Its great that you guys are that dedicated to 'gameplay' to get so many people airborn at once. There were definitely some fun fights, but its got to be disheartening for the newer players or those trying to improve their flying skills.
Anyway, cheers, flame away...

Never said it was .. I said I thought about 70% of the Knights and 70% to 80% of the Bishops were fighting rooks. The rest were fighting each other .. so 25 - 37 Knights and 25-37 Bishops fighting each other.
Knight Rook Front about equal with maybe a 10+ plane advantage to Rooks.
Combined Bishop Rook front about 30-40 plane advantage to Rooks.

I missed this RJO, too bad it sounded fun.
Ever notice after an RJO there is a numbers post here? everytime someone comments (or complains) about the numbers advantage.
I say to anyone that says "its just numbers, not organisation" I beg to differ. Its the Organisation that gets the large turn outs for these events. I challenge you to get to work and try to bring a large number of players on a specific night.
I remember last summer, just before CON, I CiCed "Big Load". This was peak summer when all squads have a slump in attendance. Yet, By Emailing and contacting folks in the arena for weeks in advance, the rooks fielded a huge turn out (350?)
I also Challenge any both the Knights or Bishops to go head to head with the RJO. Id like nothing better than to see our advisaries do something simular to a RJO. Of course if all the Damned pilots showed up, it would be larger than an RJO all by its self. ;)
I also know that most Bishop and Knight Pilots dont know what fun a night like this can be to participate in. Its really a huge change of pace from the average night in the MA.
Congrads GhostDancer and all the Rooks There on another Sucessful RJO. :)

...and Grimm...I challenge you to watch the movie I rent for Sunday nites!!!! :)
BTW, been there...done that (years ago)...the thought of it bores me to tears. Set it up in the SEA or as a scenerio...arrange some valid competition, otherwise it will still just be a numbers game and ego massage to me. If that's what it takes for you folks to get your cookies....by all means, go for it. But, for heaven's sake, don't break your arms patting yourselves on the back....it did take arena odds of 100+ to do :).

Well, the wheel turns, doesn't it? When I logged on last night there were 189 Bish, 128 Knit and 122 Rook.
About 90 minutes later, Hee Haw reruns were on TV Land and Bish numbers immediately tanked down to 97....

Hows it go.... Been There, Done that.
In fact, I CiCed I believe the Second or Third RJO and we actual were the 2nd place in the numbers game. We were pushing for a reset and did just that in fact.
RJOs dont have to be about resets. Some Guys will remember the huge B17 HQ Raid that had launched around 100 B17s (before formations) or a Mini RJO "AM, FM" With a large attack in Zeros and Wildcats.
The Entire RJO Experience is working together and squads supporting each other in MA. It builds community and Its really a lot of fun and a great change of pass.

Oh yeah, I remember that RJO, about 2 1/2 years ago. The Rooks put up about 100 B-17s, and that was BEFORE we had 3 plane formations. I flew escort and it was truly a sight to behold.
I also remember several RJOs where we had less players than one side, and we still rolled them back. That's the difference teamwork can make. Defined mission goals, solid tactics and back then, the Rooks were the smallest country, but the root core of Rooks had many exceptional pilots. Every tour back then showed the Rooks to have a considerable advantage in K/D vs the Knits and Bish. Now, with the Rooks usually having a manpower advantage it's hard to tell if that has changed or if it hasn't, is it based upon numbers or skilled pilots, or both? I suspect that numbers have kept the K/D lopsided, but go back two years ago and the Rooks, barely able to muster 100 players during prime time, were a tough bunch to tangle with.
This tour:
The Rooks have 60242 kills and have been killed 48079 times against the Bishops.
The Rooks have 55460 kills and have been killed 47935 times against the Knights.
Tour 27, back when the Rooks were usually outmanned by 50%:
The Rooks have 66641 kills and have been killed 59679 times against the Bishops.
The Rooks have 62577 kills and have been killed 58255 times against the Knights.
Go back a year ago to tour 42 when the Rooks finally had parity or better and the numbers skewed even more.
The Rooks have 122774 kills and have been killed 95352 times against the Bishops.
The Rooks have 100083 kills and have been killed 84013 times against the Knights.
Notice that the Knights always did notably better than the Bish, even in tour 42:
The Knights have 111649 kills and have been killed 105785 times against the Bishops. Even in the current tour, where the Knits are almost always outnumbered by the Bish: The Knights have 44213 kills and have been killed 42230 times against the Bishops.
There's several years of the data available and it certainly shows a trend. However, it's impossible to factor exactly how numbers skew the scoring. Why? Because, even when outnumbered, both the Rooks and Knits have consistantly scored better than the Bishops.
Do we have any statisticians here who can discern a specific pattern? I mean beyond the Bish simply being kinda sucky! ;)

You know I like the idea .. sort of like a country versus country duel. Pick a map, objectives, and date and then have it in the SEA.
This has possibilities. Let me see what the Special Events schedule is and then discuss it with the other CMs (btw I am the CM Corp C.O. for the SEA) and see what we can come up with.
I think you idea has some merit Nobaddy. Who would I contact on your country (what squads) to further look into the possibility of doing something like this?

Geez...don't let it get around.....I gotta rep to maintain!! As the former Damned x0No (executive officer/ non organization), organized stuff generally gives me hives. The folks I see most often using the dreaded "O" word in Knitland are the FB's.
