Title: i hate live tv
Post by: tapakeg on July 19, 2004, 04:11:24 AM
it's getting to the point where i record on tivo just so I can skip through commercials.  Or even pausing tv for 5 min or so and getting someting to eat or bathroom trip then unpause and ff through commercials.  If I see one more enzyte commercial...............or has anyone seen the very annoying "global link" commercial on tech tv?

I love my tivo

Because they put them all on BBCAmerica. Nothing like trying to watch Coupling, The Office or Father Ted only to have commercials crammed in where there was obviously no break planned.

Or have a 30 mintue program trimmed to 22 so that they can put in the adverts.

Commercials are what TV is all about. No commercials, No TV. At least no TV in the sense of what we have now. Sitcom actors aint gonna work for free and the money just aint gonna fall outta the sky.

I'm fairly bitter about it though. I'm the guy that has to make sure all the got danged commercials run correctly and at the proper times and in the proper order.

You know those time life music commercials. I could sing the commercials to ya as they played cause I aired them so often. you can turn the channels or fast forward. I  cant. So enjoy your tivo and the options you have cause I for sure dont have a hell of a whole lot of say in the matter :)

Tap, did you build your own tivo or buy one?
I`ve been sort of interested off and on about building one. I was just wonering how much of a hassle and expense there is to it.

I built my own and there were quite a few snags. (software problems)

The one I use has MythTv on it. Which is a Linux debian thing.

I built my own, not too many snags. The only issue I had was syncing the time correctly so I wouldn't miss the beginning or end of shows. A registry edit took care of it and allowed me to record 2 1/2 minutes more at the beginning and end of shows.

I love mine, even has a remote.
