LOS ANGELES, July 18 - With his frustration mounting this weekend over his inability to muscle a budget through the Legislature, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called his Democratic opponents "girlie men" and vowed to work to unseat them in November.
At an appearance on Saturday in Ontario, Calif., Mr. Schwarzenegger, a Republican, criticized the leaders of the Democratic-dominated Legislature, saying they were part of a political system that was "out of shape, that is out of date, that is out of touch and that is definitely out of control in Sacramento."
He said Democrats blocking his $103 billion proposal for the fiscal year that began July 1 were too weak to stand up to special interests like unions and trial lawyers who wanted changes in the budget.
"I call them girlie men," Mr. Schwarzenegger said of the Democrats, as hundreds of shoppers who had gathered to hear him speak roared their approval at the Ontario Mills megamall, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles. "They should get back to the table and they should finish the budget."

It's a little more bipartisan than that. I voted for Arnold and I'll vote against my Assemblyperson (a Democrat) for working behind the scenes to undermine the budget talks yet telling her constituents how hard she's working to have a "fair" budget.
For too many years California politics was business as usual, and the voters of California have alot more politicians to get rid of on both sides of the aisle before we can begin to have a voice in our Government once more.

Read the second sentence. What MT is saying is that they both lean conservative on fiscal policy and liberal on social policy and a large portion of the voters agree with this. Clinton bucked the fiscal liberals in the dem party, just as Arnie does with the Christian right in the GOP.
THAT’S how they are the same. And in both cases, this strategy allows them to compensate for some character flaws -- relatively minor ones in Arnie’s case and major ones in Clinton’s case.

Arnold's plan worked , he brought national attention to the fact that the govt of Peoples Republic of Kalifornia is holding up the budget until they can protect their "special interests ". The budget is 19 days overdue.

I think "socially liberal" is not referring to social programs (welfare and other money-related things). It refers to things like allowing/supporting gay marriage, eliminating censorship, eliminating victimless crime, etc.
In that sense, it is possible to be both.

Clinton didn't become a fiscal conservative until large numbers of Democrats were voted out of Congress during the elections of 1994. If you want to know what his fiscal policy would have been if this had not happened, go back and look at his budget proposals for the first two years of his first term.

The main issue of contention is actually a very dull and complex local government funding issue that doesn't really fit into the simplistic yes/no - good/evil view that many of you have about politics.
19 days is nothing, the last few years they have been several months late.

rav... kinda curious... What makes you think Arnie is "acting" any more than every other politician on the planet? Arnie did not start out as an actor but most all politicians started out as lawyers and politicians.... they have been decieving people every day of their life and... there are those who will tell you that only actors who are not very talented actors end up in California politics where they become exceptional politicians. In Northern California support is very high for Arnie.

The dems response to Arnold's comment is comical and serves only to strengthen the perception that they are all girly men. Don't these politicians have advisors or at least a friend or two they might run an idea past before opening their mouth and sticking their foot in? Any politician that can speak a truth that resonates with the majority while at the same time exposing pc crap for the snare it is gets my vote. May have to revise my sig.

Not the right way to look at it, I think. If all the gays became straight, it would also cost extra, but we wouldn't see it as a social program or additional benefits. This just levels the playing field.

AND I STILL WANT MY SUMMER SCHOOL BACK DAMNIT!! Budget cuts making schools let only people who failed go to summer school basicly.

what's the deal with "summer school" anyhow? we got extremely expensive buildings and infrastructure that is vacant most of the time an the highest paid part time workers (teachers) around....

lazs my old school (private btw) didn't have summer school. You also waste 1 peroid pretty much. they smashed Computer/library/grammer/pe into one peroid. I had grammer once a week (that is a good thing btw since i hate that subject).Library once a week. Computer's once P.E. 2 times a week. Then we also wasted math (MATH MATH MATH!!!!!) on tues to go to church. (WHY MATH?!?!?! ONE OF MY FAVORITE SUBJECT AND MOST IMPORTANT ONE TO) Then classes were also short. 7 periods each 45 mins.
Summer school. Budget cuts for the schools made the district let only failing people in. 2.3 of the kids that go are just looking to get extra credits and to get rid of classes to get electives during th regular school year. (i was one that did that last year. Took health)
Also private schools i dont thing have the building qualities or building strength that public schools have. My old was building was over 50 years old:eek: They added 2 new building before last year because some bumb lite a building on fire. that is all i can think of for now.
lazs vouchers take away somethings that public schools have to offer (which is nonthing right now lol)

b17... what I meant was that the teachers are part time workers getting full time pay... They get extra to work summer school. That is why there is no money for it.
Private schools have many ways of doing it.. yours was one. The fact is tho that the teachers only get paid for the hours they work.
