Yes or No?
Free install.. 4 DVR recorders...free... $60 per month for 180 stations???
-
Yes.
-
I've got a buttload of stations.... only really watch about 8 of them
-
I take it you got the lil' black gift card in the mail. Our family took up the offer and other than shoddy customer service when there was a mix-up in billing it seems to be just as good as any other satellite service.
If you get a lot of storms/clouds in your area it may not be the best option, but I guess thats true with any satellite.
-
No good rain in about 2 years.
:D
-
Well bring on 500 channels and nothing on! :D Seriously, its great to know you have 100+ channels at your fingertips, but realistically you'll only watch about 15 of those on a regular basis.
Wonder if they have a 20 channel plan for 5.99 a month? I'm sure that would sell!
-
Dish Network rocks. You even get SerriusSattelite radio if you chose too.
Even has games and trivia, if you subscribe to PlayJam. Golf was free a few days ago.lol
-
sounds like a good deal MT
-
The DVR in itself is worth it, it changes the way you watch TV
-
Can you get "Discovery Wings?" My cable provider doesn't "provide" that channel. Is it worth the cost of satellite dish installation?
-
mt your fine. expect that everything expect local is in est.
-
DirecTV has a wee bit better sports package. All depends on what you watch, I'll never go back to cable. I've had our Dish for 5 years, love it.
Karaya
-
Wings channel is on DishNet if you have the premium package.
Btw..one good thing about DirectTV was when nothing was on i would watch the direct Tv girl on 201...hehe.
-
MT, if ya decide to go with it let me know before you do! I can get $5 a month off my bill for the referral. If ya do the Club Dish thing right you will not have a bill at all. :D
Dish Network is great!
-
I have directv.....I LOVE IT. They did overbill me one month but then credited the next. Every customer service person I've talked to spoke really good English. I rarely ever have an outage.
I can go to Directv.com and order payperview and it is almost instant. (dont have a phoneline near the RX)
I'm not too fond of dishnetwork.....just a personal preference...hell they may be the same company nowadays.
-
You get a real TiVo (not a knockoff generic "DVR") with DirecTV. And you can only get NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV. I think there are other features in Dish's favor but those are the only ones I care about. :)
The main thing is A.B.C.
ANYTHING BUT CABLE
-
No extra subscription with the Dish PVR like there is with Tivo.

how's dishnetworks high speed internet service? - ops they don't have any
how's dishnetworks digital phone service? - ops they don't have any
one of the biggest draws of sat tv is the fact with the right card you can steal far more than you pay for...
-
Now Eagler,...don't make me tell my sad tale about cable (by the way, they still have not fixed the cable yet for our block..3 years and counting).
The DiSH PVR is as good, if not better, than TiVO.
While 4 PVR's sound neat, you would only be able to use all 4, on different channels, if you have 2 dual LNB dishes.
PPV can be ordered over the PVR (if you connect a phone line), WEB site, or by a phone call. All are instantaneous. They do suggest ordering PPV about an hour before the even starts, but for movies, you get 24 hours to watch it, so you can catch them anytime.
We usually order the PPV, then set the PVR to record during the early morning hours so we can still PVR our favorites.
I really cannot remember the last time we watched something live.
-
I thought Dish didn't carry the NFL Network?
-
Sorry rpm... I went for it. Mainly I did it cause cable is running $90 for similar service around here. I'm saving $30 a month and as Martha would say... That's a good thing.

Is that the storch plan?
-
seems like all your paying for from any of the services mentioned are info-mercials....
-
Well, I dunno, still happy with Comcast cable for TV and computer high speed access.
Got a big fancy ad for Dish the other day, but with comparable goodies, it looks as pricey as cable.
Comcast cable provides On Demand for either recording what you want or selecting past programs to view when you want.
Enjoy it most for watching WHAT I want WHEN I want to watch it. No longer slave to scheduling or commercials.
Still waiting for HDTV cable upgrade. We have digital cable now and HDTV promised within the next year.
-
I had Directv for about 4 years but finally got tired of losing signal when it's humid out the over billing.
The thing that really pissed me off was when my system started acting funny they told me it had a virus and I had to replace the whole thing.
They said if I had their warranty it wouldn't cost me anything. I asked them how it was my fault since the virus had to come from THEIR satelite.
They couldn't answer that but said I still needed to buy a new system. So I did....Dish Network. I've been with them a year and have not lost a signal yet NOR have I had any billing problems.
-
HDTV is available from DiSH and I beleive DirectTV as well. However, the programming is still a bit lacking.
You have to use a local antennae for local stations if you want HDTV from any local affiliates right now.
-
I've had DirecTV for over three years and I love it. Haven't lost picture more than twice in that timeframe, even in blizzards I've had good reception.
I would tell my cable company to go shreck themselves, but they are my only good broadband choice right now.
ABC "Anything but cable" Hehe, love that phrase. :)

Really? ;) (http://www.epinions.com/content_2096406660)
*edit*
That review is circa 2001, doh.
I have heard quite a few people dissing PVR vs TiVo. But I have no firsthand knowledge of the PVR, so who knows.

True, I share Comcast cable modem with my landlord. It rocks.
how's dishnetworks digital phone service? - ops they don't have any
I have this great digital phone service. It's wireless and it even lets me use my phone as a modem when I travel. It's called Sprint PCS. :)
one of the biggest draws of sat tv is the fact with the right card you can steal far more than you pay for...
Typical AnEagla Bryant, LOL.
-
Look at the date of that review, Funkypants. I had the PVR 501 when I still had DiSH Network, and it was the very first PVR they ever offered. The review is dead on about that unit, but I would imagine the later models got more features. But it sounds like TIVO has a lot of cool little features that may make the cost of a subscription worth it.
-
Getting DirectTV installed this afternoon. For $50 a month I am on the Total Choice Plus package and even keeping my cable modem service through Charter I am saving around $40 a month. When I had Charter Digital Cable it was $85 a month just for cable television and I continually had problems with the television side of the service with the picture going out on different sets all over the house.
-
Uh, yeah, that review is way off the mark. Sounds like the two are pretty close in what they can do (PVR/TiVO), if you opt for the top end PVR from DiSH.
Actually, the top end PVR can record two channels at the same time as you are watching a previously recorded show. It does require a dual LNB dish for this feature though.
The time shift (when a program moves around) can miss the mark by a couple of minutes though. That is about the only anomaly I have had. Heck,..its free, so it is a bit tough to complain.
-
What kind of PPV porn do they have on Dish?
-
I dunno.
I look at it this way. In our area, anything (including rabbit ears) is better than the cable service we have available (Comcast).
It is about a 50/50 split, in our neighborhood, between DiSH and DirectTV.
Everyone has thier own reasons for picking one over the other. The only constant I hear from the DirectTV folks is DiSH has faster menus than DirectTV.
Some of the DiSH folks like the TiVO service, but the price is better at DiSH with the PVR.
Trade-offs.
-
Hmm, no porn, no NFL. Dish sucks!!!! :D
-
I have Comcast cable internet service here, and it's great. Fast as hell down, and slightly faster than snot up, but I can live with the slow upload speed. The service is $53, or $43 if I buy cable TV service. So, I pay $10 for local channels plus Discovery. I was going to step up to the next programming package to get more channels, until I found out that the next step up is $42 and that doesn't even get me into Digital Cable! For $39.99/mo, I could get a two room Dish Network setup with their America's Top 120 and Locals. Unfortunately, my apartment manager nazis won't allow me to put up the dish.
-
I didn't say there wasn't any. I just never had a reason to inquire about it.

Ya know there was actually a federal court decision that they have to let you put up a dish as long as it is inside the space you rent. If you have a patio or a balcony or a deck, they can't legally stop you from putting up a dish there as long as you don't drill holes, etc.
-
And in Oregon, they can evict you with no cause.
-
LOL

There is no NFL plan at DiSH. You are stuck with whatever the local affiliates will give you. They do have a college football plan.
No big deal to me. I could care less about football.
But for those that need to have that feature, DiSH is not for you.

You say that like it is a bad thing. :D
If it is, then why you asking about pron?

Sex with another person is nice, but it doesn't compare to "the real thing". :rofl

Well, I sincerely hope you and Ms. Hand are happy together. :)

No thanks, that is her job.

Thinking about dumpin cable....had direct tv 4-5 years it was ok...nothing to write home about.....will look at dish this time.
will save 30 bucks a month over cable.
walked in noticed the wife packing her suitcase, I asked what she was doing, she said going to vegas....heard you get $200 every time you have sex.......I grabbed my suitcase.....she asked....what are you doing?....I said I'm goin too...i have to see how someone can live on $400 a year..........
-
90$ for cable alone??????
my parents paid $70 for cable and medium speed cable internet.
-
Checked Dish offer in my area. Might save about $30 a month over cable but no On Demand where you can just check past and current programming and select what you want to view at no extra charge and without having to record it.
Will stick with Comcast unless they don't hurry up and upgrade our cable (one of first in area) to HDTV soon.
-
Oh my....some funny comments in this thread and i almost missed them. I need to quit my job and live here full time so i dont miss anymore.
-
NO. I have C band satellite with a FTA receiver and 4DTV receiver, have more channels to shake a stick at. About 70% of the channels are free, the other 30% are sub. Only costs me $48 a month for easily over 700 channels. Never any rain fade, snow, or poor quality due to over-compressing the signal. Just great, clear viewing.
