Sorry, to post another vid card thread but I finally made enough money to buy a new computer. So should i go for ATI or NIVIDA? Is there any card that get good frame rates thats under $180? I wanted to get a ATI but now I'm leaning toward the NIVIDA.
Here is mmy system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 3200
Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" nForce2
Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
PS. I will be on AH2 mid Aug, after my vacation. Can't Wait!!!

Is this a good card? FX5900XT (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-072&depa=1)
Or a ATI 9800 Pro (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-268&depa=1)

The 5900XT is going to be slower than the 9800Pro, but both are good cards.

Jay, Ive got a Geforce FX5200, not the latest and greatest, but I average around 90-100 FPS on the runway, and around 120 in the air. Its about $60 most places. I wouldnt recommend one though if youve got the money for a newer card because soon it will be completely useless for newer games.

Jay,
The 9800 Pro and 5900XT both provide excellent bang for the buck. Though it varies from game to game, generally, if the 9800 were to score 100 the 5900XT would score 85. The FX 5200 would be a huge bottleneck in your system and shouldn't be considered. It would score a 20.

I've got a gForce 4 MX440 that gets an FR of 70 in the open, 40 in furball and 7 on huge mission launch(60+ Planes)
zones.com <-- $70 or $80; cheapest place I saw. Also avialable in PCI or...aww man, fergot the other one, but it's available in both kinds.

The FX5200 is about the same price as the GF4MX440, but is a much better video card. The GF4MX440 is a GF2 based card.
