Its great to be seeing you American citizens caring what the rest of the world thinks about you.
In the past you couldnt care less, its great that this is truly changing.
We have to give a big to the Internet for making this possible. People have the tool to enlighten themselfs now and get in touch with citizens from other countrys with other views and angles.
Having internet available in the US is djust as important as having internet available to the Chinese citizens.
for your changing efforts Americans, i apriciate it alot.

If this is voiced worldwide, China is invading us from the West, France will invade us from the East, Mexico from the South. Who would attack from the North? :rofl

It would be nice if other countries liked us but it is not very important.

Maniac, most of us have always cared about how the rest of the world perceives us.
And then there's people like RA who have never, and will never give a shreck what the rest of the world thinks about us.
Just remember that those kind of people are in the minority, although they are a very vocal minority.

Maniac, you shouldn't be drinking during office hours, you know that? :)

Have to disagree with you, most people in this country could give a damn about what Europe, SE Asia or bum**** Egypt think about this country. The business of living and dealing with our own problems takes precedence.
As Laz said, it would be nice but ****em if they dont like us, would be the majority (when mommy wasnt watching what they said)

Just read the precedent post.

I have always cared about what other nations think about the U.S. How we are perceived is important to me.
Conversely, I also am concerned that other countries care about what I, as an American citizen think...and I think that the U.S.turns hostile countries into parking lots.
National security should never play second-fiddle to touchie-feelie international diplomacy.

Yes, Naso, I still believe the majority of Americans are good people who care if the U.S. is a good global citizen.
Like I said, there is a minority of people who don't care, and they are very vocal. You will hear more from them in this thread than what is truly representational of "real world" America.
If you guys think that this BBS is America in microcosm, you are wrong. The majority of people on the BBS are right wing conservatives from the south.....and they DO NOT represent a true picture of America as a whole.
-
Canada was going to invade a month ago. But we realized that even though most of the US army is gone the NFL could kick our buts. So we have settled on an internet BBS assault!
-
banana,
From the experiences that I have, having been 3 (or 4?) times in the States, having friends there, and having met many US people here, I used to believe like you, and I liked your country and your people.
But this has been before some very sad event happened, so I am fearing something has changed there, in the ol' USA.

This is very close to my feelings on the subject. Well said, shuckins.

I'm not sure that AKCasca or banana are correct. IMO, most Americans seem to think that most Americans share the same opinion, especially if it's one they happen to agree with.
I have my doubts.

Honesty is a beautiful thing! Pongo! ;)
to Maniac for comparing the USA to totalitarian communist China.
But I tell you Europe is going to simply LOVE China when it becomes a full world power and starts drinking up that Mid East oil that Europe depends on soo much more than the USA.. And you will also love China's nunanced and sophisticated foreign policy!

banana,
Didn't know Rip is a Southerner! Wow! Always knew there was something homey and down-to-earth about that cue ball!
Glad to hear it...sho'nuff!
On a more serious note...I think you'll find conservatives in large numbers throughout the South, the Midwest, the West (even in California), and even in the north. We're no more vocal than those on the left side of the political spectrum.
Thanks for the comments!
Regards, Shuckins/Leggern

No he's not sure. He’s just spewing the left wing mantra "our world is our village".
Being "good people" has nothing to do with it. Being concerned over what some leftwing Euro socialists think won't change anything. It wont make them less Anti-American. banana just agrees with their left wing view.
Everyone I know doesn’t care anything about what the rest of the world thinks. It makes no difference at all in our lives. But we are all southern right wingers nuts.
Anti-Americanism has always been part of Europe. Muslim extremist will always hate America.
Don’t kid yourselves over a few folks replying to you on this bbs. A good number of us won’t think twice about what the rest of you all think. It just doesn't matter.
-
but how many of you care what people on other planets think of you?
haha
-
I look at it like this...does France not liking me change my job? Family? friends?
No!
So why should I care?
Most hard working Americans have better things to do then to sit around worrying about what some whiney bellybutton country thinks of us.
Am I in the minority? Don't think so.

Yup, you are too liberal and all inclusive in who agrees with you on that. I would like to see other countries like us, most do envy us, but I could care less if they change their mind about us. I do not beleive in doing back flips to appease other countries. I only hope our "true" alliles remain so and I hope we would be willing to go to some extremes to maintain that relationship. Most of the people in my aquaintance share a similar view.

Slimm,
Met with Al, Mike, Don and some of my other home boys the other day.
We sometimes talk politics, although Don is a hot-head and Al and Mike can be flakey at times. Ya gotta handle them with kid gloves.
I asked Al about the Internet comment. He said it was taken out of context and that all he had meant was that he had had some ideas about a world-wide network and had leant his support to its development. He never meant to imply that he invented it. He further stated that, in his opinion, the press often deliberately distorts things just to attract more viewers.
Don agreed with that assessment, and asked Mike what he thought. Mike stated that he had evidence that Bush flew the second plane into the south tower of the WTC.
Don kicked him in the groin. Al, aghast, said that such action was uncalled for, whereupon Don delivered an upper-cut to his jaw.
Bedlam ensued. Don held his own against the two of them for awhile. Mike tried to whistle up some help from his buds, Jesse, Sharpy, and Louis, but they told him to "handle your own damn fights you fat white mo-fo."
Eventually I had to step in and slap hell out of everybody to restore order.
Politics...sheesh! Who needs it?

That's BS. There are a lot of "good" american people that don't give a rats rear what the rest of the world thinks of them. Not sure where you get you info but it's way off. MOST americans couldn't care less.
btw... are you saying that to be good they have to care? That's a load of crap.

What he said. My job, my family, working on my newly acquired home take up my entire day - and has for several years now that I've gotten out of school. Honestly, I've got more important and pressing matters to think about than international relations. And I wouldn't be upset one bit if it were the same way for other people around the world.
Then again, I just realized my answer to this thread seems to make too much sense. Gotta do a hook check... then after that...

Damn, you guys obviously have millions of friends. I am now depressed I only have a handful.
Tell you what, I'll stick to talking about the Americans I know and you all stick to talking about the Americans you know and leave this "most" bull**** alone because there isn't one American that knows what "most" Americans think.
Hell, I don't even care if "most" Americans like me - they can kiss my bellybutton if they don't.

Grunherz, China has already begun to suck up all the oil. Perhaps in the end they will go and sort out the Middle East when the extremists try to take charge.
I agree that most Americans care little for what the rest of the world thinks of them. Most countries are the same. But even before 911 many ordinary Americans I met felt much of the world hated America. They knew why too. But too many Americans couldn't understand why they were attacked that September morning. It hardly matters what people in Europe think of America. But it does matter what Arabs think and most of them seem to hate America. The 'war on terror' is the result. The Homeland Security Dept and all those new laws and the security scares are directly related to what some foreigners think of America. Not caring isn't an option anymore.

It's pretty plain why a lot of middle easterners hate the US. They fear freedom. Others that despise us do so because they have been led to believe we are out to impose our will upon them. No mystery here.

You say the internet is the tool used to enlighten us? Well we created the internet, so maybe it could be viewed the other way around. Maybe America, being so diverse and tolerent of other cultures and religion, fostered the environment which created the internet and which is now enlightening the world.

I don't "hate" them, but I do find them to be very "chauvinists" (like you, Americans), and that gets on my nerves. Your two nations are actualy very close regarding that.
It's also geneticaly engineered, we love the French as much as the English do :D

Don't you people ever read any history?
We will reap what we sow. We are now in a period of time where America is the most powerful country in the world. We are also the most arrogant. And yet we are not self sufficient in supplying the oil energy that we consume every day.
I never said we should let the U.N. control our destiny or our armed forces. I never said we should bend over backwards to make people love us or to be part of some mythical "world village". Nice try to paint me as some stupid hippy liberal, though.
What we *do* need to be aware of, is that we are in a global economy, and it's important for us to maintain friendly relations with as many countries as possible. It will pay dividends in the future.
Y'all talk real manly about telling the world that we'll do whatever we please, thankyouverymuch. But what happens if we piss the Russians and Saudi's off by continuing to invade countries, and they cut our supply of oil off? Are we just going to go in and take over their countries to protect our oil? If we did that, we would be no better than the Japanese in 1941. FDR cut the Japanese off from their deliveries of oil, which gave the army imperialists the excuse to take the southern route and invade the oil rich Dutch East Indies.
This is a serious issue which we best not take too lightly. We are on the crest of the American wave, and we refuse to think about the day when we are no longer the world powerhouse we are today. One has to only go as far back as the British "Pax Britannica" period of the mid-19th century to learn some valuable lessons about world domination and the dangers of ignoring the future.
BTW, where's Miko2d when you need him?
