Just confirmed his win for the Tour de France for the 6th time in a row! . One race to go, but it won't matter as he has won his 5th time trial of this race and sealed his victory. Outstanding job!

wtfg Lance!

He deserves a nice, big w00t!

As famous for courage, as he is for cycling.
While seemingly at the top of his game, he was literally forced off his bike in excruciating pain. In early October, his doctor gave him the stunning news that he had cancer. And his life changed forever.
Tests revealed advanced testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and his brain. Though his chances for his recovery were far less than 50-50, a frightened yet determined Lance began an aggressive form of chemotherapy. With the advice of specialists, he tried a course of treatment that gave him a chance for a full recovery with less danger of losing lung capacity as a side effect. Remarkably, the chemotherapy began to work, and Lance gradually allowed his thoughts to return to racing.
Cancer left him scarred physically and emotionally, but he now maintains it was "… the best thing that ever happened to me," This new perspective allowed him to think beyond cycling and focus on his debt to the cancer community. He formed the Lance Armstrong Foundation within months of his diagnosis to help others with their cancer struggles.

Pry the most exciting sports event next to soccer or bowling.
I hope he retires.
-
Hehe, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Never could really see the excitement in watching a bike race.
-
not the excitement in watching the bike race, not for me anyway, more him doing something no one has done before.
-
Easily one of the greatest athletes of this/last century.
Did anyone see his cameo in Dodgeball? Hilarious:
Peter La Fleur: Uh, actually I decided to quit... Lance.
Lance Armstrong: Quit? You know, once I was thinking of quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer all at the same time. But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and won the Tour de France five times in a row. But I'm sure you have a good reason to quit. So what are you dying of that's keeping you from the finals?
Peter La Fleur: Right now it feels a little bit like... shame.
Lance Armstrong: Well, I guess if a person never quit when the going got tough, they wouldn't anything to regret for the rest of their life. Well good luck to you Peter. I'm sure this decision won't haunt you forever.
:D Awesome!

Just amazing what performance enhancing drugs can do.
to Lance for having the courage to take those drugs.

Almost...

I heard that people were spitting at him when he crossed the finish line. WTF?!, is that true?
-
I think it's pretty interesting to watch. Of course I'm unemployed right now so I have too much free time. Usually I TiVo it and skip through the first hour or two, keeping track of any breaks. If there is anybody important in the break or if the field is catching them then I watch the last hour or so. Some of the stage finishes this year were awesome, as good as anything in auto racing as far as the strategy and timing involved.

No link, but its from Reuters.
L'ALPE D'HUEZ, France (Reuters) - Tour de France director Jean-Marie Leblanc has admitted he had seen fans spit at five-times champion Lance Armstrong during the 15.5-km time trial to L'Alpe d'Huez.
Leblanc also said the swarming crowds on the twisting climb on Wednesday had frightened him as riders, including Armstrong, were forced to weave through excited fans who jumped out on to the road.
"I was scared too and I felt relieved when we reached the section with barriers," Leblanc told Reuters after stage winner Armstrong described the stage as a "bad idea" and hit out at some German fans.
"Until this morning, everybody thought this time trial was a good idea and now we realised it was not so.
"There were lots of aggressive fans surrounding the riders and I even saw two idiots spit at Lance Armstrong."
"Unfortunately I doubt you can put barriers on the 14 kilometres of the climb," he added.
Armstrong, who stormed to victory nearly a minute ahead of his closest challenger Jan Ullrich and now looks set for a record sixth Tour win, urged organisers to think seriously about holding another time trial at the ski resort.
"I don't know if that's such a good thing for the Tour de France. I don't think it's safe. I think organisers should watch out," said the American.

It seems to be contagious. Just this morning I saw german Schumacher fans celebrating as Raikkonen had a wing failure and very hard crash.

thats like saying that because our olympic basketball team is a bunch of glory whoring me first punks that every american is a glory whoring me first punk. thats like saying that because theres american white superemacist losers scattered in almost all fifty states that americans are white supremacist. being an ahole is not a trait derived through nationality.

thats the mindset that caused a bunch of guys to volunteer to charge mgs from trenchlines in first world war. "join up the huns are bayonetting babies in belgium and germanys got to be crushed because its a nation of baby stickers!".

Did I give you the impression I liked watching that? 'Cause I don't, although I do like watching them crash on the news.

speaking of the french...Our city held the largest bacalao festival in europe 2 weeks ago!

BTW this is the first year I've ever even known about Lance's winnings, or watched the final race. Just thought its mind boggling that this is his 6th win. I don't get my kicks watching these bike races either, but give credit where its due. :)
