Could we PLEASE not have GV icon's connected to the viewable ground distance? If I take have my ground view set to anything but the min. distance, I get LOW fps/stutters/freezes. When I pop into the F4 ground view mode while in flight so I can SEE the gv's, my screen goes into fit's of stutters/freezes, and I usually end up thwakin' into the ground doing a normal gv strafing run.
Why are they set up this way? I feel that by my having a middle to low end computer (still plenty above min. specs. p4 1.4, FX5200 128mb card) I am being punished. I am unable to SEE gv's, unless i'm literally d500 out. In flight, when I am in shift f2/f3 mode, I can still see enemy plane icons at D6000, why is it setup diff. w/ the GV's?
HT, would you PLEASE consider NOT connecting ground vehicles icon's to your ground distance setting. As it is currently setup, I am unable to take part in a very important aspect of this game.

Its not your computer specs per se. I also have 1.4G (AMD though), and you have a better vid card (mine is on GF2 MX400 64M) I can run the slider to max and still get 28-50fps with no stutters. You might want to research tech support forum to figure out why your system isnt getting the performance it should.

It is set up that way, so GVs can find cover under the forests. Forest cover would be meaningless if someone could just turn the ground detail range slider to 500 yards, make all the trees disappear, and just spot the GV out.
For a compromise, try a intermediate ground detail range setting upto 1.5 miles, which is where the GV icons become visible at 1.5k distance.

He's not alone with the crappy frames.
I know speaking for myself I check the forums every single day looking and hoping for anew patch, fix or new suggestion that will cure our ills to no avail
I know I for one dont get it. That those with no offence "lesser" systems and graphic cards can run the game with detail sliders up and get decent frames and people like myself cant seem to get consistant tolerable framerates no matter what we have our settings on
Yet we, Or I should say my son can play just about any game out there including games like "Battlefeild Vietnam" online and with graphic settings maxed out without so much as a hiccup.
Is totally frustrating to say the least
And if your getting good performance And have been, you cant even begin to understand how frustrating.
And while I have no immediate plans on quitting or giving up.
I can fully understand why people are.

Im not trying to minimize the problem. The original post brought '"lesser systems" into the discussion, not me. I also did not just install AH2 and have great performance. I did just as I suggested in my post and luckly found what tweeks and changes I needed to make to run things smoothly. Before that I wasnt a happy camper either.

Sorry,
Wasnt ment to come off as an assault on you.
Was borne out of overall frustration more then enything else
I was referring to the lesser video card
When 2.0 came out I was able to run with everything pretty close to being maxed out on detail with for the most part no problems. My probems came when they started to fix things LOL
Been getting frustrated, aggrivated and sometimes outright pissed off ever since.
Particularly for the way I like to play Decent framerates near ground level is an absolute must. And for the machine I have while not currently top o the line I feel I should be able to have that and some pretty decent graphics too which means I shouldnt have to have all my sliders set all the way to performance over detail
It just gets really aggrivating when someone with a card not as good as mine and sometimes with also a lesser machine then mine can get that And I cant.
Particularly when I do not have this problem with any other game.

I agree, I upgraded to a 2.2ghz processor and have the 128mb Radeon 9600pro vid card and have to have the sliders set about half way down to get a FR of 30 or better which works firlly smooth but I think I should get alittle better preformance from this system. Am I wrong?

Nope. I think you should get ALOT better performance from that system
Uninstalled, redownloaded then reinstalled game without carrying over my AHI settings last night. Hopefully that will cure alot of my ills. That about the last option I can think of.
Flew only a couple flights after that and semed to get alot of stuttering and frames were still in the crapper at low alt but I was told that this happens the first time you run the game.
Wont be able to fully put it through its paces till tonight.
Oh a word to the wise. If anyone decides to do this. Dont trust the windows uninstaller to uninstall the game. after several tries, It wouldnt uninstall it and I had to manualy delete the files from the HTC folder to get a fresh install
Hmm think I better post that fact int he bug reports section.

(bump) I want a skuzzy anwser.

The anwere is no, for the resone of gv hideing.

Lets face it, if you're not flying low flying close-support and ground attack missions, then GV's are not an issue. When ever I want to fly a Ground Attack mission, I go into my setup and lenghten the ground visibility but turn down the other settings. Works like a charm and FPS is still decent.

or a HT anwser of course. T/Y for the response.
I don't QUITE see the logic tho'.
How is my stuttering hiding a gv when I can simply press shift F4 and SEE where they are. All this setup is doing is not allowing me to attack them very well. It is not hiding them from me what so ever. I can fly over and SEE the gv icons w/ no problem (w/ ground detail view). It is when I dive in to drop eggs/strafe them that I stutter, stutter, freeze THWAK into the ground (granted, only occasionally, as I am learning to work around this problem somewhat.
ALSO may I add that when CV guns firing I have similar problem, and it is NOT fun landing on a cv at 4-5 fps. BUT if there are no fires on the cv, or the cv guns are not shooting it's smooth sailing.

SHIFT+F4 increases ground detail range out to 4 miles.
It doesn't just reveal where GVs areplaced - it's a preset one-touch funtion which alters the graphic settings. It's essentially the same thing as altering the detail settings by hand.
-
Would suggeest folk with weak or slow system try the following.
Turn off everything before starting AH. Anti virus, message systems, auto updates, downloaders ect.
Or add another user that does'nt fire up all the background stuff.
Flush your systems of spy ware with a free spy remover.
For those with Gforce use Omega Performance drivers http://www.omegacorner.com

Uhhh.....both right and wrong there. Ground detail range pushes ground detail out to 4k, so yes it reveals icons vs. my meager .5k ground detail range I have to fly with. I have found it even helps reveal thoses pesky "can't see the icon 'cause it's on the deck" planes. I have ALL sliders set to performance, so that isn't something I could trade off with and I have to fly in shift F3 detail when more than 3-4 planes in the area. I WAS able to run more detail in earlier Beta versions (go figure)

I understand WHY you are posting that, but it doesn't apply to me. I have NO spyware (run SpyKiller,AddAware,Spybot almost every day), I have only a firewall running in background (Kerio firewall, explorer, systray only TSR's allowed on MY system), and I DO run the omega drivers. I even run a proggy that defrags System Memory, and that is the ONLY way I do NOT lose UDP upon entering arena. It's called SpeedUp, and it frees up your RAM. I have spent 1/2 hour on the phone w/Skuzzy, and he was stumped as well. GREAT suggestions for those not already doing them.
