Title: Great American Composer
Post by: rpm on July 25, 2004, 11:14:01 AM
Jerry Goldsmith died last week. Who is Jerry Goldsmith? He was one of America's greatest composers, and you probably love his work if you just knew it was his. Jerry wrote Hollywood soundtracks, and he was very, very good at it. One of the 1st songs I learned to play in band was written by him. Here is a partial playlist of his work:

Television:

Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Barnaby Jones, Hogan's Heroes, Dr. Kildare, Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: Voyager, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Waltons and many, many more.

Film:

The Blue Max, L.A. Confidential, The Omen, Planet of the Apes,  Total Recall, Hoosiers, Poltergeist, Chinatown, The Sand Pebbles, Basic Instinct, Alien and many, many more.

My personal favorite is the soundtrack to Patton. The music is as big a part of the movie as George C. Scott's performance.
Jerry Goldsmith, died last Wednesday in Beverly Hills at age 75.

He was the healthiest, fitest man over 70 i've ever seen when he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra three years ago.
I still can't believe the news :(
