Title: Rickey Williams RETIRING????
Post by: tapakeg on July 25, 2004, 04:48:04 PM
What, after 5 years in the nfl and one of the best backs he's calling it quits?  Oh well at least he's going out on his own and in good health

Finally one of these guy's figures out that he is filty rich for his whole life (if he's reponsible) and that there is no reason to stay in only to later get out with a wrecked body for life.  Of course then there was the weed thing. :)

You gotta really "want it" to play football at that level.  It's not baseball or golf or something like that where you can half-ass it 90% of the time.  Good for him.

You can "half ass" it in golf at the professional level and somehow still make millions?  Don't think so bro.  I'd say there's more slackers in baseball and basketball than there ever would be in golf.  Pure and simple, every week you have to go out and earn your living, nothing is guaranteed.  In the NBA, you get a guaranteed mulityear contract.  Think it over again.

I aree with you Stang........

Tough to stay in that Top125 to stay exempt for the next year when you have to make 400k or more now. Something like that. No slacking on the PGA Tour or you will be selling sweaters to old men and telling the old ladies how nice those ugly friggin gulochs are , while trying to cure a 100 yard slice for a HACK that can't spell Straight. Much less hit 1 out of a 100. Golf is a sport and now days..It's DANG tough to make it on the Big Tour , Nationwide Tour.

I'd say Golf is the most (mentally) difficult sport out there. If you're new to it, there's no chance in hell that you'll even place in the top 10 in a local tourney.

Baseball has the most slackers. Just look at Jeff Bagwell for the past 3 years, and he isn't even a bad slacker!

I'm sure Marijuana has a little bit to do with his "early exit".

Not even close, Ricky got caught because he didn't care if he did, he was leaving. There are ways to avoid marijuana detection in tests, lots of NFL players smoke. Remember the joint they found in Moss's car when he tried to run that traffic cop down? And he passes his tests. They all pass.

I'm not sure what financial shape he is in, so I would advise him that he is only young once and that this may be his last few years to make big money. But it seems that there are some things that are more important than money and football to him.

Funked is right, you cannot play football half heartedly, you will get hurt or get your teammates hurt.

Thank God he decided before I draft for my winners leagues, that would have sucked.

Heh.  He went on tour with Lenny Kravitz and found it "too confining".  I feel the same way just looking at the guy.

He's been reading a lot of philosophy lately too. That's the original slacker pastime.

Ricky Leaving is a good thing...  As soon as the dolphins implode this season..  The sooner Ole "Dave" gets the boot...

Destroyed the Bears...   Destroyed the dolphins..  hes 2 for 2.... wish his sports record was so good...

Our whole sports climate down here has watched the off season foolish foolery this spring and summer and said  WTF.... from the wife beatings to the jailing to the no offensive line .. wtf.. he has no control or respect of his players

Long time Dolpfans are dropping season tickets this season for uh  Shaq.....  Marlins etc.....

Ricky is a good RB and should be remembered in SF for his re-establishment of the fins running game...

My personal opinion was that fins were stiffing Ricky for his efforts, money wise and now his delay in telling the management was his fairwell bag of goodness..

Ole Dave is thru.....

Now word has it the Dolphins are "in panic mode" and are looking to see if they can trade a current starter and a future first round pick for Michael Bennett
