Title: Kerry gets boo'd by Boston fans... throws like a girl
Post by: Preon1 on July 26, 2004, 07:09:20 AM
I just heard a report on NPR regarding John Kerry's appearance at last night's Red Sox vs Yankees game.  They played the audio when the announcer introduced John Kerry and he threw out the first pitch.  The audio was filled with boo's from the fans and the pitch apparently never made it to the plate.

Does anybody have access to the footage from MLB.com?  I'd love to see that clip.

Maybe Mr Black shot the baseball out of Kerry's hand, and that's why it looked like a girl throw?

"Greeted by a mixture of boos and cheers, Kerry ceremonially threw the first pitch of the game to Will Pumyea, 23, of Woburn, Mass., a military police officer with the Massachusetts National Guard who returned recently from Iraq. Pumyea is "a supporter of mine," Kerry told reporters. His throw was low and short. The ball got by Pumyea, who was wearing military fatigues."

I have always dreamed that if I got to throw the first pitch, it would be like Kevin Kline in "Dave".

Hey, this would be front page news and the top story on Peter Jennings commentary show had Bush not been able to get the ball to the plate.

How come we cant find any pictures or any video of this?

Must be all those commercials Im seeing for CNN's "John Kerry: Born to Run" getting in the way.

Stick Bush and Kerry in a ring with gloves, Bush would knock that wimp out within the first 30 seconds.

We should have a national debate, then the "ring" prior to any election. :)

How a man throws a ball may be an indication as to what kind of childhood he had, and subsequently what kind of a man he is now.  Personally, I don't know many American males who never had a catch with thier father growing up.  Sports is one of the primary venues that we use to teach our children such concepts as honesty, integrity, fair play, and respect.

What do we know about John Kerry's childhood?  He spent a lot of time moving around?  He spent a lot of time in boarding schools?  His bio pretty much starts when he graduated from Yale, so we really have to make our own judgements.

My judgement from the first pitch is that his childhood is at the very least unorthodox (for an American).  I add that to the time before the Dem primary in MA when we was asked the price of the gallon of gasoline and he didn't know, and the morning of the NH primary when he did a photo-op cooking breakfast and couldn't flip a pancake.

John Kerry claims to be a man of the people when lacks some of the most common traits found in the people in our culture.  It's like the french electing Chirac even though he showered on a regular basis.

I don't think so.  He has a good point.

Would I vote for someone based on whether they can throw a baseball?  No.  But he hasn't shown many (if any) examples on how he can relate to me or the majority of Americans in any other way.

What is John Kerry?  What has he been?  A decorated vet... ok  that's seen as a positive (except to Laz) but what else has he been?  Where has he worked?  Has he been a politician his whole life?  I havent heard of him being anything else.  So how does he relate to me or the rest of Americans?  The only time I've seen him do anything that I have done is throw a baseball.  And he did it in a way that makes it obviouse that he's never learned how to do it.  Soooo.... how can he relate to me?  Or the rest of average america?

I have no love for Bush but John Kerry is looking more and more like a loser every time I see him on TV.  And I'v been trying to like the guy.

They also highlight the close triangular working relationships among Paris, Moscow, and Baghdad and the huge French and Russian financial interests in pre-liberation Iraq. Prior to the regime change in April 2003, French and Russian oil companies possessed oil contracts with the Saddam Hussein regime that covered roughly 40 percent of the country's oil wealth.8

I have a Ted Kennedy car.  69 Delta 88.  That sucker is .455 fast and runs good to this day.  Original engine condition, but it's lost it's looks.  That was a hip car back then.   Nowadays it's a poor man's red neck special, with enough dents that people get out of your way.  It would be at home in the road warrior movie.  It's the kind of car you'd probably see on the road after a nuclear war.  It already looks like that.

And I'll throw my political 2 cents in this thread and cover them all.  Frankly, I avoid the typical two party system, I refuse to register in any political party, instead voting for the best candidate regardless, or sometimes in spite of, their political party.  It's funny, I grew up in Maine and everyone had their own political views, but they were pretty quiet about them and just went and voted, didn't make a huge fuss.  Here in Oklahoma, I'd hide if I were a democrat or at least tell no one, because it seems like everyone I meet here is an outspoken republican.  Is it just me or is that true of this area of the country in general?

Bush practiced, and he couldn't make it either.

==============================

Updated: Friday April 06, 2001 11:49 PM

Flashes went off all over Miller Park as President Bush threw out the first pitch. AP
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Access to America's finest practice facilities didn't prepare President Bush for Miller Park: His first pitch was a major league bust.

The president's ceremonial first pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers' new stadium skipped in the dirt before thumping into the mitt of Brewers manager Davey Lopes. Bush froze in his follow-through for a moment, then shrugged his shoulders.

Ball. Way too low. A bit outside.

Afraid it would turn out this way, the president had tried to lower expectations before taking the mound. "The split-finger is sometimes not meant to reach the plate," Bush joked in the Brewers' locker room before the game.

He had practiced with an aide last weekend at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Md., and again Thursday on the South Lawn of the White House -- a respite, no doubt, from the standoff in China.

BOSTON - John Kerry bounced the ceremonial first pitch during last night's Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway Park, but he said he was just going easy on the National Guard soldier and Iraq war veteran standing in as catcher.

"I held back," Mr. Kerry told reporters early this morning, on the plane ride after the game. "He was very nervous. I tried to lob it gently."

And the catcher didn't have a knuckle ball glove... otherwise he'd have thrown his knuckle ball.  Yeah thats it.

Hey, it's only the great American passtime.  And the soldier was the person who was supposed the throw in the pitch but Kerry being much more important than him got to interject himself into that guys glory.  And the guy didn't miss the catch.  Kerry effed up the throw so bad that it bounced up off the ground and hit the guys glove.  NOBODY could have caught that ball.  Contrast that with Bush throwing in the game ball at the World Series right after 9/11 :)  STEEEEERIKE! :D

And it's not a reason not to vote for Kerry.  Kerry is reason enough not to vote for Kerry.

It all completely depends.  The further away from OKC or Tulsa you are the more outspoken republicans there are.  In Norman, OKC, Edmond with college campuses there are more outspoken democrats.  Are you guys stationed at Tinker or Lance AFB?  I think there is another as well in Altus.

Will this man ever admit to doing anything wrong? Must EVERYTHING be spinned to make him look as favourable as possible? He is the mother of all ****tards.

So what?  Good God this is a stupid thread.

Kerry apparently played hockey in college.  I'd like to see GWB lace up the skates and play a man's game.

You're forgetting that Mr. Kerry can throw a football very well (has a good bomb arm), and he plays hockey.

Tyler Hamilton crashed a few weeks ago.  So why does falling off a bike make Kerry's curveball acceptable?

Nice spin Holden.

And I'm sure that many many big leag baseball pitchers have thrown a ball thats hit the ground before getting to the catcher.  Both examples... yours and mine are exagurations of the point.

My comment was that you can't knock Kerry for his riding prowess when Bush keeps falling off his own.

Hockey?? A MAN'S game?? Give me a break- hockey is for frustrated figure skaters. Real men play baseball, football or basketball- or get into pro wrestling.

I'll tell you something else, Whale Breath- if there were any money in hockey, the way there is in other professional sports, nobody would have ever heard of Wayne Gretsky. He'd be carving little totem poles to sell to the tourists off the cruise ships.

I said that in jest.  I don't really see that in your reply.  Or... am I missing something here?

So.... hockey players aren't real men because there's no money in their sport?  Name another sport where you can kick someones ass, take a two minute break, then get back in the game.

This photo appeared in a story in this week's Sporting News. In the article, the author notes,
"News reports indicated that Kerry, in anticipation of the great honor , had practiced throwing pitches to aides. If so, those aides would have well served their man by saying, 'Er, sir, maybe we should have Teresa do it.'

As Kerry came out tof the Red Sox dugout to do the first-pitch honors, he carried the ball in a way that foreshadowed the achievement to come. He carried it pressed against his palm with his fingers wrapped all the way around it. Kerry didn't go all the way to the mound. Perhaps he took a touch of advice from aides who had seen him warm up. He stopped maybe 45 feet from home plate. From there he threw the first pitch. I say 'threw' in the kindest possible way.

Here's what Kerry did: He raised his right arm to its full height. From up there, in an athletic movement seldom seen on a baseball field, he let the stiffened arm fall forward. At the same time, he splayed open his fingers in a way that allowed the ball to fall out. It bumped against the ground short of the catcher and in the right hand batter's box...

President Bush threw a World Series strike from 60 feet, 6 inches while wearing body armor the month after 9/11. And he threw another strike opening this season in St. Louis. So if we need a fastball at Osama bin Laden's ear, I know which guy I want on the mound."

That's it, ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!  The election is decided.  Kerry's dirt dobber vs. W's cruise missile.  Dems can try again in 2008 -- Hillary surely can do better.
