Title: Head bounce: Does it affect you?
Post by: Ripsnort on October 13, 2000, 12:05:00 PM
Curiously, I too disliked the 'head bounce' effect that imitates what a fighter pilot would see in a real a/c, but after a few weeks of flying, I forgot all about it.

Does it affect you?

Do you like it, dislike it, or forgotten all about it? (Adjusted)

I like it, it suits my evasive style (low g rolling manuevers) well since a pursuing aircraft has more trouble to pull Gs and aim, and it generally feels more realistic to me, so much so that fixed view position games seem very odd to fly now  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Didn't know it was there 'till that earlier thread pointed it out. I've been meaning since then to go and try to see it but I keep forgetting to. Uhm... I guess that answers your question.

Btw... Even though it isn't some overt effect, I bet it goes a long way to adding to the immersion. Subconsciously, I would think that you *do* notice it... if that makes sense.

Er....let me put it this way. I'd be willing to bet that if HTC quietly pulled this out of the sim one day... You'd notice immediately.

Agreed, Nash. Kind of like ambient noise in a room- you don't notice when it is there, but you sure do when it's gone.

Yep, go fly one of those "other" sims after flying this for a few months...makes you appreciate this one a whole lot more  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Noticed it when I first played AH. I liked it a lot. Still do.. Notice it only when I'm not in combat and I think it's the neatest thing.

Oh,....phew,...gald to know it is intentional.  Thought me head was coming unscrewed from its base   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

What head bounce?

Anyway:
All you had to do is drive your car in the track and look what happens (usually less than 1G)...

So no "head bounce" = no authentic head movements  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Well.. that head bounce annoys when doing verrry small aileron adjustments.
Head bounces to side like you would have just begun quick roll instead of smooth one.
It doesn't really disturb anything else than aiming... aim gets messed so much even for very very small change.

Just like Fihsu I only really get annoyed about the headbounce when I am really zoomed in trying to make a long shot on a fleeing enemy. Just a small aileron correction throws you off.
In regular flying and gunnery I don't really notice it, as I usually are pulling too much lead to even use the sight   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

BTW, maybe a little OT, but did anyone happen to see the newest video for IL-2? Now there is nice deflection sight.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I'll give ya a hint. Headbounces, altho present, won't give me the same problem then  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
