WOW,
Barack Obama
WHO IS THIS GUY?
The dems should have chosen him for a VP. What an awsome speaker.
I watch him on fox news tonite and was in complete awe. He reminds me of a skinny version of the Rock/WWF.
Anyone else catch this guys speech?
-
If he's a Dem he's a professional politician and a dirtbag.

Do I detect I hint of political bias here ? :)

you people put a lot of weight into speechifiying.
take a course in public speaking, hire good speech writers, and you too can be a politician.
hitler was a really good speaker, he could motivate a crowd.

That's true, but when you see a speech and you beleive in what the person is saying and you look in thier eyes it makes a difference. This guy delivered and it wasnt just a bunch of political bais mumbo jumbo.

Was going to start a similar thread, he was exellent at the podium. One to watch, I just hope he doesnt marginalize his career by being too much of a wild eyed liberal or doing something dumb.

I loved his red state blue state comparison. He sounded like he really cared that people may actually have a dissimilar belief than him. I still looking for a transcript.

Transcript (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A19751-2004Jul27.html)
WOW!
OBAMA: My parents shared not only an improbable love; they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name, Barack, or "blessed," believing that in a tolerant America, your name is no barrier to success.
(APPLAUSE)
They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they weren't rich, because in a generous America you don't have to be rich to achieve your potential.
(APPLAUSE)
They're both passed away now. And yet I know that, on this night, they look down on me with great pride.
And I stand here today grateful for the diversity of my heritage, aware that my parents' dreams live on in my two precious daughters.
I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.
(APPLAUSE)
OBAMA: Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our nation not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy; our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...
(APPLAUSE)
... that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
That is the true genius of America, a faith...
(APPLAUSE)
... a faith in simple dreams, an insistence on small miracles; that we can tuck in our children at night and know that they are fed and clothed and safe from harm; that we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door; that we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe; that we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution; and that our votes will be counted -- or at least, most of the time.
(APPLAUSE)
-
my favorite parts:
Now, don't get me wrong, the people I meet in small towns and big cities and diners and office parks, they don't expect government to solves all of their problems. They know they have to work hard to get a head. And they want to.
Go into the collar counties around Chicago, and people will tell you: They don't want their tax money wasted by a welfare agency or by the Pentagon.
(APPLAUSE)
Go into any inner-city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone can't teach kids to learn.
OBAMA: They know that parents have to teach, that children can't achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white. They know those things.
(APPLAUSE)
People don't expect -- people don't expect government to solve all their problems. But they sense, deep in their bones, that with just a slight change in priorities, we can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all. They know we can do better. And they want that choice.
The pundits, the pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue States: red states for Republicans, blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the blue states, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the red states.
We coach little league in the blue states and, yes, we've got some gay friends in the red states.
(APPLAUSE)
There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq, and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq.
We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.

Great speach.
-
He's the guy that Ryan was running against in Illinois. He doesn't give off that slimy vibe you get from most politicians, but he hasn't spent time in the beltway either. It's new guys like him that we need to get in Washington and clean up some of the good ol' boy network.
-
Articulate and seems genuine. A person who succeeded when he had built in excuses to fail. Bully for him!

Speechification is a a tool of huge tremendousness and is very importanistic.
Someone who has great ideas must have the ability to communify to the citizenism for the ideas to become to fruitable. Otherwise his leadershipness is compromisticated.

Easily one of the most articulate and well delivered speeches I have ever experienced. He is running for a senate seat. He will win. Sadly when he does he will want to take away my guns, money, educate my children in "the village" and map my life according to his "we know better than thee" partie's agenda. The African and Mexican population of Chicago will elect him and we will have another pandering gun grabbing dem to demonize. That speech was purposely written to appeal to the weak minded herd awash in the daily drudgery of a mindless existence, the undecided middle of the road vote of the sound bite generation. There will be some great sound bites played for a couple of days. Apparently it has had it's desired effect judging from the comments posted thus far. He put his arse way up that tree last night. In time his true predatory nature will be revealed. It's a narrow target but a target none the less. I liked the guy but I will sling barbed arrows at him at every opportunity.
What about the tomato queen? I thought she was there to talk about what's his name? I love her. She personifies "loose cannon".
-
I don't watch those conventions. The democrats captured Obamas bin Laden and made him give a speech? WTF?
-
Riding his political career off the hard work his parents did and capitalizing on it. Thats the message I heard. Besides, his name sounds too close to "Osama" so he probably won't go any further than secretary of state. ;)
-
I must of have been watching the wrong channel, I saw nothing particular remarkable about his speech on its own. The contents of his speech was the same liberal egalitarian nonsense you can hear at any democrat rally.
He did seem a bit better rehearsed then the other speakers. Most seemed stiff and unprepared. They rarely took their eyes off the teleprompter. In that sense he was a little better. He was a bit more animated as well.
The context of his speech at times seemed like a rip off of Jesse Jackson. I was waiting to hear him start with the "Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!"
-
He talks the talk, call me when he walks the walk.

My vote's goin to this guy!:D
O wait..are you runnin for anything?

The ability or talent to speak effectively and move the emotions of those in the house does not make an honest or effective servant or leader.....Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are smooth as silk....neither would serve this nations best interest.
If he makes it into DC, then his fruit will define who he is and where he hangs his hat socially, economically and geopolitically.
Smooth talk always strikes my attention....I tend to trust the ones who stumble from time to time....usually a more genuine and honest characteristic.

Splendigorical!
-
He reminded me of the rock when I used to watch WWF monday nite raw......only a skinnier version.
Either way he was an electrifying politician....I wish there were more like him on both sides.
-
His speech was good. Other than the "votes will count" part, that speech would have played well for the Republicans as well.
Kind of reminded me of Reagan.
-
I at this moment like him,but he has no chance of being anything but a typical democratic black . If he believes some of the things he said he will have to go independent or republican. His character will be forced to be revealed soon by the dems.
Look at what they have done to powell, rice, thomas and others.
Efume said at naacp meeting when kerry was there, some very mean and untruthfull things about powell and rice. Gees look at what they have tried and are trying to do to cosby.
He even said creater and God and faith once, yep wont be long till we see what he is made of. Maxine waters or Condaliza Rice?
.
-
OK I had to bump this. It was from 2004......Congrats President Elect
-
Tonight's speech was great as well. I felt really moved by it. I feel like one of his speeches will be used in school speech classes as an example of a good speech.
-
Kinda funny. Who would have thought, 4 years ago, that this guy would be President?
-
Well done... Let's see if anything changes now..
-
That's funny. four years ago many people where wondering who is this guy, what a joke. Now look at him.
-
A lot can change in 4 short years. Amazing.

Who was Bill Clinton in 1988?
half the ppl in Arkansas never heard of him.
Who was Jimmy Carter in 1972?
half the ppl in Georgia never heard of him.
