Title: woo-hoo - development update!
Post by: Waffle on July 28, 2004, 02:22:37 PM
Dev update

We’re still working through some issues with 2.00 and will release at least one more patch before 2.01.

The terrain editor is close to being released. This will be a basic version that only allows default tiles and object groups. The next major programming objective is to create a full tile/object editor to complete this tool. We’re also working on an improved tree system and tree models.

There’s also some work currently being done with TrackIR compatibility and work on the ToD foundation is continuing as well.

Version 2.01 is already under development and we’re planning a short development cycle for this version. The primary goal of the next version (in addition to the aforementioned terrain work) will be adding a couple new planes and a tank built to new AH2 specs. After this version, we’ll split time between adding new planes and bringing existing planes converted from AH1 up to the new AH2 specs. The new spec uses a more detailed model and a new texture mapping that makes the entire plane accessible for skinning and does not mirror any textures. The outside shape of the first AH2 plane is almost complete and we’ll post some screenshots when that part is complete.

When the new tour begins, look for some changes in plane ratings. ENY values will be updated and a few rarely used perk planes will probably see a price reduction.

LOL!

$15 per month to fly and $90 per month to suppress the W-Ack, seems worth it to me!

Any bets on the tank?

Got to be the Sherman or T34.

(Can hope for the latter) ;)

The '34 would be cool. Bring back Air Warrior memories...but for some reason, I see the Sherman as being more likely.

Your all wrongon the plane. the new plane is going to be the Polikarpov I-16.

I think that would be sweet, and it would totally whip up on the turn-fighters.

I'm hoping for the MiG-3.

Pyro says a couple of new planes and a tank.

I'll place my chips on:

Ki-84-I-Ko Hayate "Frank"
Me410B-2 Hornisse
M4A3 E8 General Sherman

The meaning isn't clear, I think the "new" planes and vehicle will just be some of the old ones updated to AH2 specs.

Well, here's me ... always looking for the cloud in the silver lining.

If you read it correctly, he said that they're updating some planes to AHII standards, AND adding some new ones.

you have to "add" something if it's not there.

If they were updating, I'm sure they would say updating planes to ah2 specs instead of "adding" new ones.

sure there will be new planes/vehicles at ah2 standars - then they will continue with updating old planes to ah2 standards as well as developing new ones.

It is pretty straight forward the way Pyro said it.

In AHv2.01 the goal is to add two new aircraft and one new tank.

In versions after that they will be both adding a few new units and updating the existing units.

In 2.01 the existing units will not be getting an update.  Instead they are going for a quick cycle and three brand new units, two aircraft and a tank.

was trying to figure out a way to fanagle the airraid siren on the carrier to be a general quarters alarm as well as have all ship board explosions / damage be naval related...water splashes, ect..alarms, screaming...lol

least you would hear it in tower or in gunner posistion...might try sticking the sounds in the ptboat folder to get an idea...not sure yet.

Well watermelon even though it's good news I think some of us skinners may wanna go on standby till the update.  Gonna bite making new templates. lol.  And I thought I was gonna have 2 free weeks away from the wife so I could bust out new skins.

Great to hear that the models and skins are being adjusted though.  No more mirroring is an awesome thing.  Here comes a new Flying Undertaker, Big Beautiful Doll or Contrary Mary, The Gunfighter, and last but not least my current project Lou IV.  This opens up alot of new avenues for the skinners.

Great news all around though... HT and crew.

Flyboy, The terrain editor is an add on... HTC has the ability to work terrains for AH2 already...  The editor just allows you to do it.  It has nothing to do with why we are on small maps.

Infact if you go into H2H you can fly on Trinity, it clearly works with AH2 already.

I asked Skuzzy in email a few weeks ago about large maps and the answer was that they want to stabilize the game before introducing the large maps.  My point in my earlier post was simply that at this point, they clearly don't feel the game is stable enough to run the large maps, so why are they investing programming effort in new candy rather than stabilizing the existing product?

Yeah, but that was an extremely vague remark about 'issues'.

If you say you're working on it, then I trust that you're working on it.  But the first line of the post didn't really pass on enough information to be taken as encouragement.

Ok, Me-410 for the fighter, B-29 as the (perk) bomber...
Especially seeing as any gimmick needed to make the barbettes on the Me-410 work right, would also apply to make the superfort's 'gun director' positions work.

It was the PZL . Greek pilots was flying this at 1940 and had done
a very good job against 202s and me109s later.
But was highly outnumbered.

(some 30 fighters against thousands italians and germans
http://users.accesscomm.ca/magnusfamily/ww2gre.htm )

The victory of greece against italys mousolini was the first victory
of the allies against axis(1940).
After the germans came :(

Yea, mobile artilery. With cruiser targeting system but also straight shooting capabilities.
Thats the Alfa and Omega of the ground war.
You need a lot of air op to wipe them out.

edit: they work in formation style, like bombers.
4 155mm or 6 105mm.

umm....did such things actually exist?...... other than T34 or Sherman.....there were several light tanks on US and Jap sides...and also a thing I believe was called the General Lee? had 75 mm gun, but it wasnt on a turret...thing stood about 12 feet tall...DID have a turret with some smaller gun like a 37mm....that was what we put up against tigers in north africa in 1942
