Ok guys was curious as to see if other people had some of the same ideas/thoughts here...
Basically this game is about air combat between fighters at its core, but we also see the use of bombers to take out targets and transports to capture airfields/objectives. Soon we will see a Panzer mk IV added to the game and a M16 halftrak for aa, plus the Lancaster bomber and the Typhoon IB.
With scenarios becoming a big part of the game in the future, do you think we will see for example a Sherman tank modeled, or a T-34? It wouldn't make sense to have both sides having Panzers in a historical scenario, I can see eventually having Panzer MkII's and Mk III's for a N Africa campaign. This game may evolve into a WWII online, which wouldnt be a bad thing, just with more of an emphasis on aircombat. We are supposed to see an aircraft carrier also, I can imagine seeing a destroyer class modeled as well for some sort of AA screen to protect the carrier. If we are going to have ships in the game, mine as well make a port/city that we can bomb as well along with cargo ships to interdict. (so much potential here (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) )
Onto obscure aircraft, I saw the post about glider transports, I think the idea has merit, would be "cool" to see it, probally wont for a long time. I would like to see some reconnaissance aircraft in the game like the Blackburn Botha which also was a torpedo bomber. There are tons of Recon type planes to choose from, most multiroled also as some sort of light bomber. I figure the way reconnaissance planes would be used is when radar is down for a country, if a recon plane is up you have radar in that grid of the map, maybe the surrounding grids also, adds another element to the game.
On the topic of radar now, I think radar should only allow you to see maybe a grid square out from each field basically your country and a little more, I dont think you should be allowed to have "world radar" or radar that sees planes at low level. I hope that when tanks are in the game they dont show up on radar but have to be spotted by a plane, and make it that the tank icon wont show up unless you are 1k or lower. Make us actively patrol for them and make us radio to teammates of a potential invasion.
Anyhow, I think you can see how this game/sim can develop, the potential is staggering. I feel privledged to be able to participate in it and look forward to seeing it develop and progress.
I would also add that this community is great, I asked way to many questions my first week, I thought someone was going to limit me to only 1 question a day after a while (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) and I had a problem one day and there was HiTech online to answer it for me!
Feel free to add/expand/modify what I said above, or flame
Thanks

Hey I'm all for it. However I am biased toward the flying part, so it doesn't matter to me if ground and sea units are AI or not. They are targets in my eyes, and as long as they behave realistically enough I am happy. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hi all
Not too sure on recon planes mainly because any plane can do that and P38 would be very ideal, and it is armed!
As for radar, yeah, a Me 110 and cannon/MG/radar equiped Mosquito would be good if it would relay the radar for a square etc. Whether it would be right to display this info on the map, or just allow it to be broadcasted via radio is another thing. That would come in handy if your radar has been taken out. OR, even allow it to detect tanks etc., which could let us have some fun if normal radar couldn't detect tanks (allowing full force attacks on airbases) and would require Air radar for tank detection.
I'm for any new equipment really...

I *really* like the idea of radar not seeing low flying aircraft. May just bring some of these B26 drivers down low.....me included. ;-)

Radar is already ranged based from your countries fields for enemes. Its only friendlys that you see every where. You can also already fly below radar. If you are less than 500 ft above ground you icon is reduced to 3k and you won't show on radar.

Cool, didn't know that. Prepare to see a balistic Swoop terrorising the sheep. :-)
Q: When flying low in a valley (ALT 2k ish) am I off radar?
Swoop
-
I assume Swoop just like HT said ya need to be lower than 500ft.This includes valleys, canyons ect.Any higher than that and you'll show in the grid.I usually try to keep it 300ft or lower myself.
-
So the 500' mark is measured from asl as opposed to agl?
Ping, the continuously confused.
-
500' from agl. I have flown many 47 missions mowing the grass with the props to ensure I was low enough.. I think it would be fun with a b26, gunna have to try it : )

Guys,
Where have you been ? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) We have been flying Alpha stikes below radar with Bombers, Fighters and Troop haulers for weeks now. The bombers "pop-up" just far enough out to top AA to bomb fields, while fighters and 47's continue in low to capture the target! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Come join us Rooks any night and we'll show you the ropes! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hey, I got an idea...why dont we fix the flap modeling, get rid of the auto coordinated turn code and fix the accellerated stall model that seems so porked this patch before we start adding new aircraft. While we're at it we could lose the laser guided bombs the b17's seems to be dropping from 35000 feet. What were the war stats on hi alt daylight bombing.....1 bomb in 10 or 20 hit its target or something like that. That pretty much means that a hi b17 should have to use most of its load to kill an ack or fuel dump.
A strat model with ground vehilcles capable of taking bases, supply trains and depots that can be taken, in short a reason to fly other than strictly jousting would go a long way in giving me a reason to play more often. All we seem to do is climb to get over the other guy with no reason to be on the deck or fight the war. Most guys just seem to climb as hi as they can or have patience to and stay up there till an nme plane is occupied, swoop down, kill it and fly back up....just a whole lotta score whorin'. Gets old fast.
Fighter sweep missions were the exception most of the war, not the rule. Guys flew in support of ground troops and bombers as well as supply and nme troop interdiction far more often than anything else, yet none of it's really modeled.
Bombs and rockets on fighters are useless thanx to the laser ack and no available ground targets of of any value. Adding a typhoon is nice but it's not game development in my view, just adding more of the same.
My whole squad came over here from aw during the beta...maybe 8 guys flew ah regularly....there's only 2 left. Seems like there are far more important issues that need to be addressed rather than adding the typhoon.

Myself, I am looking for an even split game with both airplanes and army units, plus navy.
Airforces: We already got those.
Army: We are getting that as well. I don't recomend having players as infantry because of the difficulty in keeping up with tanks, plus the lack of firepower infantry units have. Tanks, artillery and Anti-aircraft artillery (model the german 88mm...two birds with one stone), and trucks carrying AI infantry.
And thats what we are getting.
Navy: Well, I prefer carrier warfare myself, though the U-boat war in the atlantic is also interesting. This is also easier to do, because you only need to have steerable carrier battlegroups (more than one per side). The AIRPLANES do all the fighting. This is also in the works I am told.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY! If these other units are added, please do not make them trick ponys with only a limited use. A true combined arms sim is my idea of fun, not a flightsim with a few addtions that never really get used.
Hans.

Let's just say the tanks and half-tracks will do 25 mph.
Doesn't that mean it's going to take an hour to cross one sector in a tank or track?
That's without climbing the mountains of course.
How many guys are willing to drive for a few hours to get over to a base?
-
I suspect that there will be a new terrain and that vehicles will have different 'garages' or base to head out from and not necesarily the airefields.

"get rid of the auto coordinated turn code"
Wha?
-
They could change the name to "Clubs Low" I guess.
-
Aces High, Duces Wild.
You like?
Hans.
P.S. I still think that poker terms would have made for better country names.
-
Even with a new terrain and vehicle garages, it's going to be tough to mix tanks or tracks into offense.
At a minimum, the planes are 10 times faster than the vehicles.
If it takes you a half hour to drive just 12 miles from the vehicle garage to the enemy base, a guy coming to attack you at 240 mph can make 6-7 one way trips before you get to the field.
-
Crash, the auto coordinated turn is AW.
Toad, your absolutely right. Anyone heading out in a tank, or half track with towed gun, better have pre-arranged air support or they're just going to be scrap metal.
I suspect that vehicles will be used more in scenarios than regular arena play.
It all depends on how HTC implements them and into what type of strat system they will have.
-Westy

Ah!
But if you make tanks spawn from cities at the front, you won't have too long to drive to the nearest airfield. Even with the current map this is feasible. The front will move, as will the spawn point for the tanks.
-
<<Crash, the auto coordinated turn is AW>>
Really? Head on over to ur airport, hop into one of those winged jobbers parked all over the place and take off. Try making a turn without using any rudder and watch were the ball goes. Now, land the jobber, go back to ur 'puter take off in the plane of ur choice, make a turn without any rudder and watch where the ball goes...or doesn't go. Then tell me it's only AW and I'll believe ya (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
