Title: Where are we going?
Post by: gatt on March 12, 2000, 04:47:00 AM

With the C.202 entering the arena we will soon have the need of something like an RPS (thinking about the WB one make me feel sick, tho). 1941-42 fighters are going to suffer from all these hyperfast-ultrahigh-B&Z-dogfights.

I really do like 5K-15K dogfights. In my last, say, 20 sorties, trying not to get bounced by strato-fighters, I've never met a La-5FN, only few C.205, no MkV, no 109F-4. All uber P-38L, Ponies, Gatling-F4U and strato-buffs going very fast at 30K+.

Heck, 2 days ago I merged with a N1K2 at 32K, with him barely able to fly straight. Guys ask for Zekes and HE-111. Nothing more than cannon fodder so far, you can say.

I really hope that ack-trucks, tanks, new fighters and buffs (please stop with 1944-45 kites and step back) will bring a more interesting (and arena suited) fight. And no, *I dont like deck furballs*.

Gatt

but what's wrong with "deck furball" ? on the eastern front for example a majority of engagements occured on the deck. currently in AH as you point out the race for stratosphere makes the sim look more like it's the a korean war   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but all this is going to change very soon with the US M16 vehicle and the Panzer IV H. more ground targets, ground support planes (Typhoon) ... more variety.

Uhuh, I was forgetting the "High" portion of the HighTechCreations  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Jokes apart, SNAG, I'd not define eastern front as a deck furball. AFAIK they usually fought from 5K to 10-15K and there flew their buffs. AFAIK Marauders flew around 15-20K. Leonid, can you help us?

Ironically, the only deck furballs I've seen on VHF or red about were those between P-51D and P-47D chasing Huns on the deck during low level strafing.

Gatt;

Hear ya...

Right now there is really not much reason to fly low except to vulch and capture fields, otherwise everyone just tries to get an advantage or at least be equal.

I used to think climbing to 23k put me in a pretty good position, now I find myself going higher.  Mostly because I find myself getting jumped by still higher 109's.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Once the game has a reason to fly low  to mid alttitude sorties, IMO this will change.

Should have been at F14 last night... plenty of "low" action.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Definately. Was being chewed to pieces in the 109F or P-38. Then when the fight got over the rook airfield I finally decided to give the Spit V a try and, well.... WOW.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Gatt, I think its timing, if you are on with 90-100 people online, fights are usually below 15K, on days/nights  with less  than 50 online, everyones  up high.

Another  thing, we don't pay by the hour, this doesn't force ones wallet to stay under 15k and find a fight for your bucks worth,as in WB's.
As more sign on, I think you'll see  the fights go lower.  I think the next release we're going to see a mass exodus of "other" online sim players to this one...just a hunch   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hiya Gatt,

Actually, because of our experiences with the RPS in WB, I'd say the smartest thing to do is to complete the late-war planeset, then go backwards, until we have all the "eras" of the war complete. Throwing in an early or midwar plane into the mix is a sure way to have that plane ignored. I love the LA-5FN, but I don't fly it much anymore because it can't walk the walk with most of the late-war planes.

Hehe, thought I'd never live to see the day when people are complaining about the fights being too high!

RPS is a dangerous thing.

IMHO
It should be implemented only in the arena with historical planeset. In main arena it becomes boring quickly. Why people who like to fly P51, P38, etc should fly Spit5 and fight vs... another Spit5? What's the purpose?

And yet the people who ask for late war fighters like the Fw-190D-9, YAK-3/9, Tempest V and Spitfire XIV get pummeled with insults from the "only late war AMERICAN aircraft allowed" group.

Seriously, I'm not complaining about ultra-high fights. I for one dont like late war fighters, but its only my opinion. IMHO the best set is the 1941-42 one. I'm worried about Lavochin, Macchi and early 109's in the next future. With the present set even the Ju88 is a dead bird, go figure the HE-111.
