Last I heard she refused to speak at the Republican convention? Why?
Frodo
-
Hi Frodo you salty dawg! :)
I dunno... I don't get the sense that she likes them very much.
-
I'd bet she is still greiving. Also from what i know she wan't much a public type person either.
-
Maybe becuase her husband just died, she is 800 years old and she just wants to stay home and rest.
-
And who wants her to anyway? I can not imagine anyone in the RNC would ask her; is this a question raised by the media?

Were you alive during the 80's? Look in the dictionary under "attention wh*re" and you'll find her picture.
The reason she won't speak is over the republican stand on stem cell research.
-
Back it up, RPM, show me a source for your opinion.
-
oh liz...
-
On what, the stem cell research? That is common knowledge.
Ron Reagan, 46, became an active supporter of stem cell research after his father, President Reagan, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The elder Reagan died of complications of the disease last month at age 93. Nancy Reagan also is a strong advocate of stem cell research.
Scientists believe stem cells, the body's building blocks, can be used to repair organs or treat diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. But because stem cells are typically removed from days-old human embryos that are later destroyed when the cells are extracted, many anti-abortion activists oppose such research.
President Bush has ordered sharp restrictions on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, allowing it only for stem cells created before Aug. 9, 2001.

No, I know that she is for stem cell research, who isn't? I mean the assertion that a) the RNC WANTS Mrs. Reagen to speak.
b)She won't speak because she is pissed at the GOP.
What is your source?
-
Liz, it's common knowledge. I can't link to everything that she has said about stem cell research including her personal requests to President Bush that went unanswered. So yeah, I can see how it's hard to understand why she won't campaign for him.
-
RPM, what would lead you to think that the GOP and President Bush WANT or ASKED her to campaign for them. I think they know her stance, they know her age and health and her sorrow. You say that she is not participating for an idealogical reason, I say that that has nothing to do with it.
-
You say it's her age, health and shyness? Even senior GOP officials are calling that line Bull****. (http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/216561p-186368c.html)
A downcast senior GOP official confirmed Nancy Reagan had never committed to appearing at the convention, but was nevertheless dubious of the official explanation.
"The 'not feeling up to it' line is bull----," the official said. "Something happened in the last month, and whatever it was was real."
She hasn't stopped making public appearances either. (http://www.nbc5.com/news/3570581/detail.html?z=dp&dpswid=2265994&dppid=65193)
-
I would say that that apearance is a tad more meaningful than the GOP convenion, wouldn't you (to her personally)? As for "senior GOP officials" unless there is a name attached, it could just as well be "minor DNC officials".
-
Unless Nancy has actually said that she will not speak at the RNC because of its stance on stem cell research then everything else that others have said on this matter is just speculation.

George Bush.
More accurately, he is opposed to research on stem cells derived from human embryos.
Bush's comments (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/08/20010809-2.html)

Who funded stem cell research? Clinton?no Bush?yes
-
RPM you are grasping here. Ron Reagan Jr. is a libral. Just ask his brother.
Also, I think the homecoming of a ship named after her late husband might have some kind of significance to her....
I dont recall her being at or speaking at the last 3 convention so who knows.

Bush's comments (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/08/20010809-2.html)
"In recent weeks, we learned that scientists have created human embryos in test tubes solely to experiment on them. This is deeply troubling, and a warning sign that should prompt all of us to think through these issues very carefully."
It troubles me. Not far removed from the experiments done by the Nazis during WWII.

Hi Nash! Or should I say avatar king? :D

Creating human beings for the purpose of experimentation is the part that troubles me. Does it not you?

Ummm Iron, libs are pro abortion, of course hacking up that stuff is cool with them.
Is stem cell a proven thing yet? I thought it had the possibilty of causing cancer.
