Any good?
Is it worth downloading and using?
Dad says it's safer, and faster, well it is faster, but it dosn't have all the options IE uses, but I dunno how many of the IE things I acutally use that FireFox dosn't.
ATM, I tried installing to to try it out, but when I try to Import from IE it creates a runtime error. Terminates it's self basicly.
Any help would be appreciated, dunno why, I just have a funny feeling about Mozilla and always have..
-
I'm usinig it RIGHT NOW. It's great and I love it.
-
It's a POS.
I can't import ***** from IE, and the only things I can import are favorites and internet options, which are things I don't really need..
-
It's still in development so you can't expect too much of it. The current version is alot better than the last. I haven't had much problem with it. What are you trying to import?
-
Links mainly, but I just want it to import everything for me..
I don't mind change, but having to transfer every little thing by hand is a pain.. and atm, I'm kinda pissed at it.
Even tried an older version to import but those can't import..
I got Windows XP and IE 6

I use it when I might be surfing some shady sights......one thing I hate about it is half the plug ins dont work for it....the other half you have to download all over again.
-
The plugins is the only thing that I had a problem with. especially Java, but I got it all working now. I love it
-
i only use it for visiting the-underdogs (uber slow when you have to get all them advertisements) or when i need to quickly and easily get rid of cookies and the like...its annoying for use with forums, cause nothing looks right
-
Yeah, I checked out here, and it looked ood, stretched out and crap..
-
and i have to rightclick and click on new window or tab just to open up a link, annoying as hell...if they fixed the IE security holes, made the google toolbar standard and threw in a dictionary/thesaurus IE would blow firefox out of the water...
-
FireFox ain't in the water... it'd be put out by the water.. :D
-
I switched to Firefox because I kept getting infected with spyware using IE.
I've got used to using mouse gestures, the bugmenot plugin etc, and I wouldn't switch back now even if IE was made secure.
Didn't have any problems importing IE favourites on either of my pcs, don't get any problems of web pages not displaying correctly, and left clicks work fine.
I haven't noticed it being any faster than IE, though.
-
I've been using it as my primary browser for about a year. It's by far the best browser out there.
I've never had a problem with any of the extensions. I use:
Tab Warning, Dictionary search, text links, IE view, and google.

how do i get firefox to grab favs without reinstalling it?
-
There should be an "import" option on the file menu.

Anyone figured out how to get Firebird to work with sites like this?
http://us.rd.yahoo.com/launch/search/all/top/videos/*http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1017874
Any special plug-ins or whatever you can use?
I like the browser... just doesn't work on enough sites for me.

Firefox Browser ? , It's a small download and installs with out any trouble.
Works great, faster than MS IE .
and alot safer .
Quig , you need to read the simple install instructions for Mozilla Firefox , you can not install one over the other !
-
Love Firefox.
So far no probs whatsoever.
Only a very small handful of sites that wouldnt support it and none of those were of any kind of importance to me.
Talk about POS?
That would be IE
-
firefox ok .. but i hate how for this BBS the "text bar" for entering my message is only 1/4 screen width. this message would be 10+ lines of text by now. cant figure out how to change it.
other "bugs" made me give up on it.
-
or there are other options ... I use both.

Netscape has never been installed on this system.
{edit}Or do you mean that I can't have any other browser installed but Firefox? No better that Firefox works at some sites I visit, I can't justify deleting IE. {/edit}

I use Mozilla and the email prog that came with it. Latest version.
Imported everything from IE and OE no problem. Program asked, I answered yes, and then it did it upon install
Blocks popups! Browseing is nice and everthing looks normal. Can get at favs real ez using F9 key or close em off for full screen same key. It actually seems to have more bells and whistle then IE??? Downloaded something that gave me access to everything in Mozilla.
Very user configurable!!!!!
Set the email to avoid javascript stuff so doesn't look as pretty with the incoming emails, but my system is safer. Emails that I label spam go straight to a junk folder and never even get opened before deleting.
Set it to ask me for pretty near everything, got tired of all the trojans, spyware, etc.. that kept getting through with IE.
Seems abit faster then IE too.
Don't think i'll ever gop back to IE or OE.
BTW had no trouble with that site listed above.
-
There is not a better browser then firfox right now,
I used to use opera years ago untill it started hetting bloadted. But firefox is just faster then everything else out there.
The only time i i use ie is when i need to doewnload activex componets like remote desktop plugin

Does FireFox support page history inheritance yet ?
Last I checked:
To annoying everytime I open a new page it starts with default homepage instead of making a new copy including everything.
And some pages didn't work and I had to revert to IE.
-
Firefox kicks ass. Fast and no spyware. If a site doesn't work, pull up ie...but I find that to be a rare occurrence.
Metallica blows after AJFA.
-
Try the Opera browser and Mailwasher for pre filtering of mail.
Keeps my machine running, now on the 5th year without reinstalling windows!!!

Yep.
They do got a lot of the old stuff on there or I wouldn't waste my time with it.
Anyhow. I can get the site to show up with Firefox. Just can't play any videos. Also have that problem with a lot of other sites that have videos on them. I tried telling Firefox to use Media Player to run .wmv files, but still have the same problem.
What plug-ins are you guys using to get around this?
-
Been using Firefox and Thunderbird (email client) now for about 24 hours and have found it extremely easy to use on both ends. In some ways it fits exactly to what I wish IE and Outlook would have been right at the beginning. I am also using them with a fresh install of XP Pro so I didn't have any favorites to pull over from IE. In fact I have IE and OE hidden so far down in the file system my wife will never be able to locate them. If I could get away with pulling IE out of XP I would do it in a heart beat.
BTW I don't care how my BBS writing appears while I am doing it and to see the main screen it looks just like it did with IE.

Usually that's because people build web-pages that will only work in IE rather than sticking to better standards.
-
Opera is the better browser handsdown.

Exactly. This is the only reason FireFox won't work on a given site; bad code. IE will display a site written in Yiddish with no problem, but any other browser will display garbage. That's because IE was built by M$ to be idiot proof. Now we've got a bunch of sites that don't hold to any standard, and some that require a very obscure IE-only script or they won't work. If the site is actually written to W3C standards, it'll run in FireFox. Hotmail is the only site I visit on a regular basis that requires IE (well, that and Winblows Update). The rest work great in FireFox.
Importing bookmarks is as simple as going into the bookmark manager and using the "Import" function. It's right there, plain as day in the Bookmarks menu.
I've been using FireFox 0.7 (latest is 0.9) for well over a year and it's crashed only once. Java and Flash are two programs it doesn't get along with, but it'll work fine with any others. You can auto-block pop-ups, have ten sites open in the same window (tabbed browsing), even raid sites that contain cookies from hell without worry. True, it's a bit of a pain to get used to if you've been using IE. And true the BBS text boxes are a bit small, but it's twice as fast and ten times safer than IE. Put up with a little inconvenience now and then (BBS text box visuals) and you'll have the best browser out there. Then again, if you're anal enough to require everything to look exactly as it did in IE, you won't like it. FireFox doesn't work like IE, it doesn't look like IE, and it doesn't need daily patching like IE.
If you're a person who inisits on doing everything in a browser (inline RealPlayer/Quicktime viewing, playing Flash games till dawn, writing Java programs, etc...) you probably won't like FireFox. It and Java don't exactly get along most of the time, and there's a glitch with the Flash plug-in installer (Flash's fault). RP and QT won't run in the browser window either. As a browser it's great: secure, fast, does what you tell it to, built-in Google search bar, F9-activated side window, pop-up killer built-in, and so on. But as a "do-it-all wunder" it scores low points, and for a reason. It wasn't built to be one. It's a 9 meg download, 15 meg install, blistering fast web browser. Not a multi-media "stuper center."
Scout, huh? If you want a blank page, go into Tools/Options/General and set the Home Page to "about:blank" to get a blank page every time FireFox opens. If you want a non-cached home page to load, reset your cache options. That'll bring up a new copy of your home page every time. As for the site-don't-work problem, see above.
