HTC,
:aok TrackIR enhanced mode in AH2 Rocks! :aok
Now that TrackIR works in enhanced mode in AH2, 2 requests.
1. Can you enable it to pan 90 degrees straight up?
2. Now it's obvious why so many fighters had rear view mirrors and the P47D-40 had rear ward radar. No matter how you crank your head and or the TrackIR view arc, you cannot easily see your six. Will you be implimenting a rear view mirror keyview?
While in Tracker pan mode the view keys are still working, and yes I can use my hat switch to look Numpad-5 for 90up and Numpad-2 for rear or Numpad-5+2 for back up view. Then trackpan around in those for a view.
Some fighters using a combo of Numpad-2 and the tracker pan mode will have a some what usable 6 view, while others due to the rear deck configuration or armor plate will have none.
I hope these requests may be possible in later updates. Still ,,TrackIR even as it is, is still really COOL. :D

AGREED!! TIR support ROCKS!! I love the way the hat still works with TIR in Pan Mode. Thnanks HTC.

Good ideas.
I'm starting to like using my trackir 3 in AH. At first it was wierd, but the trick is to keep trying. Now, I'm no longer rattled in a fight to the point where I can't keep focused on my target. I'm learning to stay calm, then the view stays calm, and I'm getting my kills. I like how as your view slowly returns to center, a gentle "snap" type effect pulls it there and sort of keeps it there as long as you don't move your head too much. Just right.
It's really showing its usefulness with merges, also.
The 90 degree straight up would be great.

Need help setting up my TIR2. Can anyone post what settings their utilizing in TIR software, or profile etc.. and also what keys you've mapped. Id like to spend the time, but kids etc..
Any help would be much appreciated.
-
Yes I need the same info as Balsy I have a TIR2 also been sitting around for 5 or 6 months . Any tips or tricks to help get it right would be great I assume that all the native support is now in the AH2 program as of the last update? I just downloaded and installed the 3.11 TIR software. Anything else needed? Thanks

in my X45 AH2 profile I setup hat1 / shift3 so that it turned on / off IRtracker (default F9) by pressing up and and centered it by pulling down (default F12)
I just started up tracker program, which defaulted to my IL2/FB profile and started up AH2
when I want the IRtracker view I switch to shift 3, then push up on hat one
when in close and want to go to default jstick views, pull back to turn off then go to shift 1 to restore 8 way hat viewing

I am using TIR2 with 3.11 software. If you want to change key assignment, click redefine on Hotkeys tab and also reassign with keymapper in AH. I don't think you can use combinations such as CNTRL+F5 in 3.11. I only use the Pan mode and have it mapped to the hat next to my index finger on my throttle, as well as the "off" selection. The view keys always work, so I just use my pinky button on the stick for the straight up view.
On the motion tab check Enhanced and Remember. I chose presets to Custom and assinged X & Y axis separately. I like a big deadband so Edit Points 0, 2, 5 in X are set to 0/ 10-1/ 20-2/ 30-4/ 40-6/ 50-8.
Y axis is 0, 0, 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 14, and Smoothing is 120.
Name an AH profile on that tab and save it. You can then choose which profile is the default for TIR startup.
My profile prolly won't work for you since my monitor is 10 feet away and the TIR is on the wall 6 inches behind the bill of my TIR hat worn backwards (not backwards for todays kids).

Thanks guys for the info

Actually I'm not using the TrackIR (ver 3.11 software) hotkeys at all, you can use the AH center & on/off keys for everything. Or at least it works fine for me. So I have the centering (default Ctrl+F4) on one button on my joystick and then Tracker Pan and Tracker Off on one hat (I'm using X45 too). Didn't find much use for the tracker snap or tracker move function. But I'm still learning...
& thank you HTC for TrackIR support. :)

The TrackIR software doesn't allow key combinations. The ctrl-f4 Panzzer was talking about is an AH key command.
The AH keys default to CTRL-F1...CTRL-F5 and include "Tracker Off" and "Tracker Center" commands, so if you use them you don't have to use the trackIR ones at all. They're in the key mapper under "view" settings.
-
Yes, I'm actually not using the TrackIR software keys (such as F10, F12 etc) for anything in AH2 now, I'm using the in-game keys for trackIR. So I have mapped the default AH2 tracker keys to my Saitek profile and am not using the TrackIR hotkeys at all.

HTC, another thread is prompting these questions:
1. When you said to get the latest version of the TrackIR drivers, did you mean the current 3.11 or is there a 3.12 soon to be released? I'm assuming to implement TrackIR support you have been in contact with Natural Point and are privey to more than us.
2. Is the Tracker pan's inability to go 90 degrees up your programing feature, or an issue to be resolved?
In an older thread it was mentioned that since many rear view mirrors were feild upgrades you were not going to put that feature on any of the fighters in AH2. With TrackIR, it lends itself to needing that feild upgrade to successfully check your six now.
-
As I understood it, the full functionality of TrackIR in AH2 is not yet possible, waiting on a new relase from NaturalPoint for that. Meaning the 90 degrees up view and the full six view (which was available with keypad or view hat) will start working with the upcoming version of the TrackIR software.
From patch 7 readme:
NOTE: To get full head movement, you will need to download the next version of the TrackIR driver from NaturalPoint when available.

I am not having a real problem with the 6 view. So far , I have only flown the 51, Yak, D9, and G10 with native TIR. I get a great 6 view when I look full left or right as long as I don't look up at the same time. The normal views still work but without saved head position. It is handy having the TIR on/off switch next to my index finger on the throttle.
-
AH would be better if all 6 views stopped where the IRTracker does now

Only when they enable mirrors

what do you do in the RTRacker profile? It has hotkeys to turn on/center IRTracker in it too
Seems they override the AH IRTracker commands in the game
what am I doing wrong?

I disabled the "enable" and "center" keys in the naturalpoint software. They can be found in the hotkeys tab in TrackIR 3.11 software.

got it, thanks for the help

Wayne from Track IR said profiles are done, drivers updated very very.... soon. Also noticed Aces High advertisment is up on their website.
Will have ability to view straight up etc...
Looking forward to the new TIR drivers :)

Guys I want to apologias to everyone. My rear view problem was the registry fix for the IL2 Linda Blair problem. I have forgotten battles and the expansion pack loaded and TrackIR set its view range to 1 instead of 2.
If any of you are having problems seeing full back with a clear 6 view, go to the TrackIR web site and find the registry fix under the IL2 game tab.
HTC sorry for sounding foolish. Ive done my home work and understand we are just waiting on the next mini update from Natural Point to enable the 90 deg. up. Sorry for the trouble. :)

HOT DAM HALLALUJAH!!!!
Why didn't someone say this in the first place?
Or better yet, why didn't I think of trying it myself?
Problem solved! Thanx HT! Perfect functionality, without waiting for the driver update. (Although I understand thru NP forums that update is at hand ... so we'll just have to re-edit the registry back to the default "1" once it's released.)

Works great!
Thanks Hitech

Hitech, thanks for the "3". It's "FANTASTIC". Also some tracking glitches cleared up with the full range of moton enabled.:aok

Is it worth getting a Trackhat? Does it have the reflectors on the end of the bill?
I'm just using a standard cap with three reflectors in a triangle where the bill joins the cap. Is there any advantage to be gained from a Trackhat?
Thanks
Mooch
PS I have the original TrackIR. What is the difference/advantage of TIR 2 and 3 over the original?
-
Moochie,
I have a Aces High cap. I cut the plastic backing from the strip the dots come on for one of the large rounded edged squares and fixed it to a "T" pin. Placed the rounded edged square on that and slid the t-pin into the brim.
Now you have a TrackIR cap.:D

I think you have defeated the purpose of the hat. The trackhat has the reflector on the front of the bill to create more movement for any given head movement. You can do the same thing by moving your reflectors to the front of the bill.

I've got a trackhat, the only advantage is a fashion one. It doesn't have any hot-glue, or pins holding the reflector in place, so you don't have to feel like AS BIG of a dork if you have to answer the door. Oh yeah, it also has an even larger reflector on the back so you can be really hip and wear your hat backwards.

Actually, I have to wear mine backwards because the camera is mounted on the wall behind me. My monitor is 10' away.:D

For ultimate coolness ditch the trackhat and fly with a cigar or cigarette in your mouth. TrackIR does track it, but not that well :aok

FWIW...here's my custom profile. A little slow with largish deadbands. I'll probably speed it up and tighten it up once I get more proficient with it.
85,15,15,0,0,1,1,0,0,0,0,0.000000,0.000000,2.000000,0.000000,19.000000,19.000000,19.000000,20.000000,20.000000,0.000000,0.000000,2.000000,16.000000,19.000000,19.000000,19.000000,20.000000,20.000000,1,1,1,1,2,15,3,15,1,1,1,1,1,0,1,0,0,0,91,92,19,44,0,119,145,91,92,0,0,0,66,0,,0,English,AH2.tir,1,,1,0,0,25,0,0,1,0,0,1,0,1,1,1,1,0,1,0,200,0,1,
Also, if anyone has a Cougar here's my toggle key setup:

My TIR3P will be here this Friday!
Looking forward to trying that bad boy out!
Also, whoever asked the question about the differences between the various versions, I think it comes down to image quality and frame rate.
The newer versions apparently do better at picking the image of the IR reflection out against background and have a higher update rate for grabbing the image, figuring out where the dot moved, and telling your sim/game that you moved. They discuss it at their website but it basically means smoother and more accurate panning.

What is this in the video settings of AH2? Just got trackir. I also noticed that profiles are in xml. Am i gonna have to manually convert from someone's tir file?
-
Just recieved my vector for my TrackIR. There are some glitches that may be solved either by adjustments to the profile numbers or in a new xml from HTC. I was amazed at how well the yaw and pitch improved especially to the rear. But if any combinations of x,y.z axis was applied things got problematic. I have been working alot with my combat profile and have it tweeked fairly well. What I don't like about the software is that I can't modify Aces High profile itself. I guess I can copy the combat profile to a AHcombat profile. Otherwise if I had other flight sims, all the combat profiles would be the same. It also doesn't do well in the latest version to allow for people to send each other profiles unless you take the time to enter it in XML format. No tir's anymore.
Rear View
When doing a lean or roll when looking in this view, everything acts backwards. In order to look at a left rear and lean or roll left view, you physically have to yaw right then lean left or roll left.(and visa-versa)
To get the best rear view you have to lean forward and then yaw left or right. This actually is correct when you think about it.
Side View
When trying to lean left or right and look down, it doesn't work. Again, physically in a chair you would lean right or left and then yaw left or right.
Many of the end points caused a jump to a view of the seat.
-
viking,
took me better than 3 months to get it right, heres some quick tips to shorten your learning curve.
1. Move the TIR at least 3 ft away closer to 4ft.
2. Make sure you have the vector clip ded nuts in the center of the view.
3. To get optimal six views, lean forward and down slightly, and recenter your track IR. Then sit naturally, its a bit different point in each plane, but once you find it you will get the best 6 views, and then be able to lean forward and down to see your sight when its time to pull the trigger.
4. If you use the track hat, cover the reflective tape up with somthing on the brim, or get a plain old baseball hat to use.
5. Dont fly too much, youll get frustrated and want to go back to the hat views.
Best of luck.

please explain this
I have the hat that came with it
do you mean cover up the silver brim? why?

The vector clip has three reflectors on it. If the fourth one is visible it screws up the software. So with vector cover up the hat reflector or even better use a different hat.
The Aces High 2000 Con hat works great.
-
ok, I'll switch it over to my "1st Annual Con" cap and give it a go
thanks
