"All,
I have just been speaking with Stuart Glendinning at Scotnet - an ISP associated with Exchange Activate. What he tells me is not good news from a fund raising point of view. The Scottish Executive is apparently trying to decide on a coherent approcach to solving the broadband issue for the 200 or so exchanges on the 'never' list and has instructed that no more grants should be given for Exchange Activate. In the long term, there will be a solution, but since funding will have to be applied for from Europe, we a re probably looking at 2 years from not before we get broadband. I feel sure this will hurt the villiage!"
This is where we are with the elusive fat pipe.
Anyone any suggestions? Satellite is ok but not for gaming. ISDN is ok for AH but not Halo or Unreal Tournament. I hate BT!

I still don't understand why satellite is poor for gaming. The signal goes at the speed of light after all, which is pretty damn fast. I've never actually tried it, I just believe what everyone tells me lol.
-
Even at the speed of light, a 52,000 mile trip takes a while.
-
I guess, lol

This is why we need a trans-Atlantic backbone for our freinds across the pond. Instead of bribes to HTC, we should pass the hat for a fatter fiber pipe laid down under the Atlantic.:)

There are already several fiber cables under the Atlantic. The problem is stepping up to purchase the bandwidth. It is costly.
