HTC has to model the sun through the clipboard, even though it may be a pain....
why you ask?
someone could be slick and resize the clip small enough to block the sun effect and still fight. that would be giving an unrealistic advantage someone might call a "cheat"
i never thought of that before, and bet many others have not either.
so the point is HTC has to have the sun go through some objects, even though it may be a pain in th butt sometimes.
guess this isnt a bug, but a thought on "explaining" a so called bug.

First, it would make the clipboard unreadable without moving it. And it might not even be seen well enough to move it.
Second, in order to have it be a real advantage in a fight, it would have to move to keep the sun blocked. Hardly something you'd have time or inclination to do in a fight.

A real pilot will shade his eyes... Staring into the sun for an hour is bad.
I'd like to see you keep that clipboard dancing during a dogfight.... You couldn't do it... Therefore, I think the clipboard thing is a bug and not something done intentionally....
Of course if I was the programmer, I'd nod and agree with you and say that was my intent all along... But I'd be BSing to save face ;)

i didnt mean a tiny sun sized clip, dancing along wiht the sun while turning, i meant a "smaller" clip maybe 1/8 the screen or less blocking an area no in the main line of sight.
example:
i am fighting an enemy who i am on the 6 of, he desides to try and make a extension. he goes towards the sun so i have an obscured view of him. it obsucres his front view, but that is of no consequence. he is hoping the sun obscuring my vision of him will help him make either a reversal, or escape manuever.
i use the clipboard to block part of the sun (like the canopy bars do) to gain an advantage, which he is unaware of. i am no longer effected by the sun and hence not hindered in my view of him.
yes that is a single situation, but there are many others. imagine i spend the time setting up attacking bombers form the sun. my line might not be perfect, but close enough. the bomber gunner though uses the clipboard to mask the effect of the sun on the side of my attack. now he has a perfect line of sight as if i was attacking from anywhere.
hell it was just an observation i came up with, and thought maybe some others in AH might see the same possibilities, guess all they want to do is flame like HiTech said.

I have posted about the clipboard thingy (I think), and think that it needs taken care of. Any pilot that wants to take the time to resize the CB in the middle of a fight is spending too much time not watching what is going on around him. IMHO if someone wants to "take their eyes off the road" and waste time messing with the CB, MORE POWER TO THEM.

Exactly. That was my point...
Like many folks in this game I'm a pilot.. And I don't suffer the sun in my eyes for very long before get a visor down or a hand up or something...
I'm sure that in WWII no pilot suffered through this just so no one would say he was cheating...
None the less, in this game there is pretty much no chance that anyone is going to be able to make good use of the clipboard as a visor in a fight.

Boyington said he used to put his thumb up to block the sun when scanning the sky for opponents. I've often thoguth we needed a "thumb" key. Maybe an opaque clipboard would ba a good thing.

I just went to the airforce surplus store and bought me a f16 helmet w/ sun visor to wear while playing, that way i just pull visor down when sun is in my eyes. and no worries. :)

Hitech, what are your thoughts on the translucent clipboard?

It must be a bug, because the sun stays when you log out. Go into an online arena. While in the tower sometime when you can see the sun, look at it and hold your view there while exiting the arena. The sun will be there in the little picture thing wherever it was before.

... even after this "bug" saved me from two laffers in the MA last night :D
