Title: stutter, stutter, freeze
Post by: flyingaround on August 05, 2004, 09:03:54 AM
Not sure why no post re. this one, 'cause I certainly hear alot o' crying in the MA.  With Trinity, I lost 15fps at least, and that puts me back down to the unplayable level.  So I guess it's combat theatre, TA, DA for me this week.

Reminds me of Patch 3-5.   I of course will fug w/ the settings, and try to find a happy place where I do not get 2 fps in a furball.

ALSO, when driving an m3 on uterus map, I decided to hide in what looks like a grey grain silo on it's side next to one of the little red barns.  1/2 way into the tube, my m3 started violently rocking forward/back, and pitched me at a right angle so I was stuck in the tube, jerking forward/back.  I couldn't turn off engine, or shift etc.
After what seemed like a min or 2, I was suddenly SHOT UPWARDS at least 100' over tree top lvl, landed UPSIDE down, and rolled back on to my tires, and was UNDAMAGED.  I was only able to film the last few seconds of it, but I gota tell ya', was pretty cool.

Sounds like you were part of the first successful firing of the 'Matrix-Churchill Iraqi Cannon'

I would say I lost about 25fps on average.

Have you folks with stutters and freezes tried the memory pre-load? My stutters used to be so bad it was darn near unplayable. But the combination of:

1) memory Pre-Load
2) do not use custom skins

Has totally fixed my stutters and freezes. Smooth as glass now.

I'm running the 128 textures which helps too.

I also fixed my excessive memory pre-load times, but that's another thread. Has to do with flashing my Ultra 66 controller with latest bios and Win 98 drivers.

OK uninstalling and doing a freash install without any soundpacks helped with the framerates but these folks are right about the stutters.
ALOT of stutters and mini freezes especially in turns but also occasionally when flying straight and level also.

The stutters and mini freezes cost me almost as many planes both in missing kills and getting kills as my own flying mistakes.
Ok Almost may be a bit of a streatch but I'd say at least 25%

How do you keep from using custom skins?

There's a check box in the video settings. Just check it and you won't see/load custom skins you come across in the game (or that's how I understood it anyway).

Dred, have you checked either of the preload options in the video setup?
