I have to admit that I have been checking the BB very frequently yesterday and today. Pyro's message on 7-28 stating that "The outside shape of the first AH2 plane is almost complete and we’ll post some screenshots when that part is complete" made me think that the screenies might (there is still time) show up late this week.
The reasons are twofold:
1) There has not been a new unit added to AH for more than a year and a half due to the work on AH2. It has been a long drought and it is nearing it's end.
2) I am keen to see a new unit (not a redone Bf109, which looks very nice) done to the AH2 specs.
-
i agree...
any chance of even naming the new borns HTC?
-
i would'nt mind that to much either !:D
-
I wouldnt mind seeing some screenies. I have to admit, ive been checking this BBs about every 5 hours every day looking for a hint of new aircraft. :D
-
I thought all of you guys would have seen the screenie of the new A/C by now........

Of course HT hasn't stated what gun platform will be attached, something good I'm sure!

It's taken longer than expected but we should be able to put something up today. That Boulton Paul turret has been a real pain.

Hehe....you're so cruel pyro.:)
-
At least the RAF would have something to fly in the night version of BoB that is coming up :D
-
I'll grant that the Defiant is an interesting concept and one that was indepentantly investigated by many nations. Only the British were looney enough to actually put it into service.
Not a bad looking aircraft, all things considered.
-
Boulton Paul Defiant
"The Defiant was to prove, that a fighter not noted for its manoeverablity and with all its armament concentrated in a turret instead of in the wings, was proven tactically wrong. It was really not suited to operations on the scale that was taking place during 1940. By August 1940 it was withdrawn fron daylight combat operations but as a A.I. radar equipped night fighter it done extremely well shooting down more raiders per interception than any other night fighter of 1940-1941."
-
You're forgetting about this one...

The first monoplane torpedo bomber of the RN. It was said that the Barracuda was designed by a committee and built in a madhouse. In fact, it was not that bad an aircraft, but early versions were seriously underpowered, and it was certainly ugly. The Barracuda was a shoulder-wing design with large slotted Fairey-Youngman flaps and a T-tail.
(That thing is UGLY)

hope your right about it NOT being the defiant...
-
Yoohoo, the British B-24 Liberator G.R.VI and B-24J had a Boulton Paul tail turret!
-
yes LIBERATOR!
or
HaLIFAX
or Hudson
http://www.aeroplanemonthly.com/archive/turret/turret.htm
-
Ima faint if its a B-24. Really, Ill pass out and faint for a week or more. :D
-
QUICK! Go for the wallet!
-
Turret Habitats
Among those aircraft - British and American - fitted with Boulton Paul turrets may be mentioned the following:-
Defiant - 4 x .303-in. Mid-upper
Halifax - 2 x .303-in. Nose 2 x .303-in. Mid-upper 4 x .303-in. Tail
Lockheed Hudson 2 x .303-in. Mid-upper
Ventura 4 x .303-in. Mid-upper
Liberator 4 x .303-in. Mid-upper 4 x .303-in. Tail

"... had a Boulton Paul tail turret!"
Who ae you who is so wise in the way of the Boulton Paul turret?
;)
Glad you pointed that out. I wondering why such a useless plane as the Defiant would be coming out at this point in time. Even in a BOB scenario it would be essentially useless (IMO) as there is are no forward firing guns and there aren't enough participants to have both a pilot and a gunner.
IMO you'd need both to use that plane as an offensive platform on line. Without coordinated maneuvering and gunning you have the pilot jumping between positions and that doesn't work well exept when attacking a base bineg vulched or defending oneself from enemy aircraft attack.

Hehe, I do a lot of research on B-24s. :)

Baltimore Mk III had em too.
Let the speculation begin (and run amok)!!! :)

I thought it was common knowledge that it was going to be the Defiant? There was a big thread about it not that long ago.
-
Not that I recall...? But then again, I dont check in all of the forums so I could have very easily overlooked it.
-
Pyro,
Yeah. There was just some misaprehension about it being perked or not in that thread.
Obviously it will not be perked.
It will be interesting to see if any pilot/gunner combos will be as successful in AH as they were in '40 and '41.
Given how often people fly directly up the 6 of a B-17 or B-26 formation in AH I think the Defiant will be more successful than many are giving it credit for.
-
Could this possibly be the thread that is being mentioned? http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=125336&highlight=Boulton+Paul+Defiant
Now, since the Boulton Paul Turret has been/is being modelled, then that means it could open the door for all the other planes mentioned in this thread that had it.
I do have to agree with Karnak though, if someone can get a gunner, the Defiant would be a force to be reckoned with.
-
Initially I was not in agreement that Doug was being cruel.

Defiant?
i think pyro is fishing.
Lets hope its a Halifax B.III.

Welp, if he is fishing, I guess you could mark me down as a "lunker". :)
-
maybe hes just making fun of you all?:D
-
The only way Pyro will have caught me is if it is actually a Defiant. And that would be a very secure hook in that case.
I don't believe that anybody actually thinks Pyro is being serious.

Go look at the announcement!
Nobody said he was serious, you guys swallowed that one on your own. We said he was being cruel :D
-
oh my!
I imagine it would be used as a punishment plane. Instead of getting squelched or muted by moderators any foulmouthed mah_roons would have thier hangar choice limited to the Defiant! and if they are in the air already then the ride are in switches into one instantly too.
cool ;)
-
I hope you really didn't believe him.

How bout no screenshots OR even an announcement.
Just put em in and see how long it takes folks to realise they are there :)

The multi-megabyte patch would be too big a clue.
-
Defiant would be ok...
If it had the "Hurr" icon that is :D
-
Pyro.
-
Only thing I seen with that kind of turrent is the Lockheed PBO, Beaufighter, B24, or the Defiant.
-
btw the Defiants didnt do that badly against unescorted German buffs during daylight phase of BoB, one account mentioned them flying alongside Ju88's and giving them broadsides :)
-
Karnak please start a " Man, how I want to see a screenie of the new bomber " thread. tia
