Title: MP3 naming comvention
Post by: JB73 on August 05, 2004, 08:50:09 PM
question:

how many of you when rippin CD's to MP3's for PC / MP3 player use use a naming convention?

ie: folders by genera, then artist, then album , then the tracks?

also, then do you reanme the MP3's properly?

ie: taking words like "The" and taking the capital T out?

do i need to see a shrink about my obsessive compulsive disorder?

I use CDEX to name the tracks while ripping.

The filename format is: %1\%2\%1-%2-%7-%4

No spaces.

MUST have the spaces, need to be able to read the file properly when viewed as "icons" (though this view is details for re-naming)

artist  song
ex.  killswitch engage - when darkness falls
I dump my mp3's in 1 folder because I don't feel like bothering with multiple folders.

There are at least one album in each, and most have multiple, some with all.

dont forget folders go:

genera / atrist / album

then the tracks are in the album folder....

also, album folders are only for full complete albums. i have about 60 tracks in the "classic rock" folder without sub-folders.

alot is in the "70's pop" folder too steve miller, police, elton john, billy joel, so on.

im having trouble though with the genera thing though. where do you put coverdale / page? in the 80-'s glam? or the led zeppelin folder? what about bobby mcferrin? jazz, or pop? i have tons of problems with this

kinda getting to me

hey Liz.. is the polyphonic spree worth getting? (i love some of the ambient non-vocal stuff but hate the pop'ish vocal stuff)

also, recommend a buckweat zydeco album (they have tooo many to chose)

If they had a better master recording it would be.  I like the music(Live is outstanding), but the recording is crap.  Those are all ripped from my CDs, BTW, I have a whole other HD with music I have on Tapes(OK, I stole those off napster, but ONLY music  I own on cassette).

Actually, since I bought the CD from PHS, I bet they have remastered it, since they got a real contract.

"Where there is Smoke there is Fire" by Buckwheat, but I like them all.

Mine was their first, with a crap insert, probably made at home. I will go tomorrow and see what is new-I gave up on any new music a couple of years ago.
