Duh.  Kerry campaign is doing damage control before the book releases.  Both parties do this.

Actually, it seems the communists portray Kerry in a better light than even the DNC.

But yesterday, a key figure in the anti-Kerry campaign, Kerry's former commanding officer, backed off one of the key contentions. Lieutenant Commander George Elliott said in an interview that he had made a ''terrible mistake" in signing an affidavit that suggests Kerry did not deserve the Silver Star -- one of the main allegations in the book. The affidavit was given to The Boston Globe by the anti-Kerry group to justify assertions in their ad and book.

....Elliott said. ''It was a terrible mistake probably for me to sign the affidavit with those words. I'm the one in trouble here."

Kerry camp isn't doing damage control. If anyone is doing damage control it is the guys who put out that commercial / book. Can't have the affidavit discredited before the book comes out, so apologize now to CYA.

I'm sure Kerry supporters had nothing to do with it. :D

"...made a ''terrible mistake" in signing an affidavit..."

"...Elliott said he was no under personal or political pressure to sign the statement...''

"...In a hurry I signed it and faxed it back."

Anyone else get the impression that a bunch of allegations were fashioned into the form of an affidavit and sent around to a bunch of republican vets for them to sign?

Then I'm sure the book will put these returned faxes into narrative form; "It was my impression on that ominous day that..."

I saw a coupla guys on the news this morning. One of these "authors" and one of Kerry's crew.

The "author" guy goes... "Kerry did this and that...". When asked if he witnessed it personally he goes "well, no...."

The ship mate guy goes "That's such crap, Kerry did this and that..." Asked if he witnessed it personally he said "yeah".

ANTI-KERRY VETS HANG TOUGH
Fri Aug 06 2004 13:37:12 ET

The following statement from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth concerns an article appearing in morning edition of the BOSTON GLOBE, written by GLOBE reporter and author of the official Kerry-Edwards campaign book, Mike Kranish.

"Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in today’s edition of the BOSTON GLOBE by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that the ad be played.

“Additional documentation will follow.

"The article by Mr. Kranish is particularly surprising given page 102 of Mr. Kranish’s own book quoting John Kerry as acknowledging that he killed a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong soldier whom he was afraid would turn around.

"Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 supporters who are revealing first hand, eyewitness accounts of numerous incidents concerning John Kerry’s military service record. The organization will continue to discuss much of what John Kerry has reported as fact concerning his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam."

Both the Boston.com report and the Drudge article provide quotes from Captain Elliot.  Either both are accurate, in which case Elliot needs to see a neurologist, or one of them miss-quotes him.  Hopefully, Captain Elliot will come on one of the major news shows and sets the record straight.

This article was written by Michael Kranish.

Michael Kranish is the same guy who wrote Kerry's biography and who he himself wrote on page 102 that Kerry admitted shooting a young, wounded VC in the back for fear the man might turn around.

Michael Kranish is also the man writing the campaign program book, "Kerry/ Edwards".

Eliiot has said today he recants nothing and he was terribly misrepresented in this article and the article is extremely misleading.

Eliot said he stands firmly by what he said in the commerical.

True. There's no halfway on this.  Can't wait to see how it pans out.

Whats the bottom line ?

I dont care if kerry shot the guy in the back, in each leg first, then the back, or shot him when he was aiming  the 40 at the boat. He did what I would have done. And whats this about shooting an unarmed vc while he was running away. I would have also. I am glad he got a medal...but a silver star?...

If he went back under fire to pick up a swimmer than I can see a bronze......I just wonder if the rest of crew got a com endation?

Problem is, seems they were not under fire, and there were 3 boats, and another boat did the same.

Oh well so what i guess,BUT  three purple hearts and you can go bye....Those that were in country, raise your hand if you knew that was possible.  I believe the doctor he isnt lieing....neither are the other vets. I am dieing here, 2 of the purple hearts were for what?  Again any in country old timers here remember the thousand ways to hurt yourself worse without doing terrible hurt to yourself??
